I haven't played this since release. Quite incredible where it is now.

Has there ever been a dev that has supported their game so much with so many continuous free updates? Hello Games really should be applauded here. The amount of work they are putting into this game post launch is quite phenomenal. Yes, we all know the state it was released in blah blah blah, but look at it now, all without the consumer needing to spend one extra penny. Minecraft started the whole Endless Updates thing I believe. Big publishers have often tried to emulate it with Endless Day One Patches. “This is the eighteenth Day One Patch this year!” “And Battlefield X is very nearly ready for come out of early access.”

I've put about 50 hours into my second play, I'm not sure if I can go on....it's so open I think I could just play it forever, I need to complete a game and move on to something else. I'm sure I've barely scratched the surface.

I thought that looked pretty cool. I've been playing this recently and stuff appears to have clicked - finally got my first freighter! - though found myself getting irritated at inventory space and disappearing buildings on planets. I don't know how they're doing it, but the way Hello Games have supported this for 8 years without microtransactions is refreshing.

I had another issue a while back. Planetary terrain I'd excavated had somehow grown back around and through one of my bases.

I had another issue a while back. Planetary terrain I'd excavated had somehow grown back around and through one of my bases. This has been around for ever, and never been fixed I think. I made the mistake of flattening the top of a mountain for a base once, came back a few weeks later and the regrown mountain had basically swallowed it. Lesson learned, use some sort of platform as the lower levels of bases, and just accept the terrain as it is.

It also seems the update screwed with seeds, so now all the stuff from the coordinate exchange reddit is useless.

Bit sad in some way to see ship hunting gone. Although, I guess, you still need to hunt for the rarer parts a bit.

Is it just me or is survival mode suddenly nigh on impossible? It seems very easy to effectively soft lock the game due to planetary conditions and the aggressive life support drain. I started on a planet with extreme cold, my thermal protection got damaged on the first death and subsequently every respawn I had about 10 seconds before I was killed again, which isn’t enough time to get to shelter, let alone collect enough to repair and recharge. Don’t recall it being this brutal before, but it’s been a while.

Did you have time to get the terrain manipulator fixed on your gun? I think that is the only way to deal with harsh environments to begin with. Dig yourself a hole/cave and wait out the storms.
I've not played in a while so I've not dabbled in the new ship customisation yet. I'm sure I will get back into it at some point.

Haven’t even got that far yet. Which means restarting is fine and it’s probably just a bad roll, but still seems way beyond my previous experiences with survival. This wasn't even during a storm or anything, just the natural climate of the planet I started on. I respawned with low health, zero environmental protection (and a broken module), and an empty inventory.

That does sound a bit harsh to be fair. I do have a survival game saved but from many updates ago.

10 seconds is really short. Also haven't played in a while, but harvesting some carbon and building a wooden floor, wall and roof doesn't work?
I basically gave up on survival, because it's not really that hard most of the time, but suddenly it throws you a fucking curveball that you just can't do anything against, no matter how prepared you are. It's maybe supposed to be that way, but still not really enjoyable for me when I die despite not having done anything wrong.

Yet another reason to get back in to the cockpit. Good stuff.
Summer seems to finally making an appearance though.

Looks amazing. I'm in a weird place with this game now in that I really want to dive back in but I also keep thinking "I'll just wait for the final update, so it's complete". The fact that this update is called "part 1" hasn't helped!

I keep re-installing this and loading it up and starting again and getting frustrated twatting about mining for Uberwankium but I don’t have the right space wotsit but I can’t get the right wotsit because I need to pluck 30 Floobs but I can’t find them because I don’t have a scanner but I can’t scan because it’s Tuesday, or something. Oh, and it’s raining acid. I preordered it, it should be my ultimate game, Elite all over again, but I find it just frustrating and tedious ((

I wish I never rinsed this when it first came out. Despite all the changes I can't bring myself to play it again.

Yeah. I tell myself I'll play it again when I have a better machine, just to see how beautiful it is and how smoothly you can fly from surface to another planet's surface.

Had been a while since I last fired it up and decided to flit between a load of my bases to see if anything had changed very much with their biomes and didn't really find much different, other than the water being a lot better.
Until I went to the toxic planet I found in another galaxy that had huge mountains on it that I spent a lot of time building a really stupid "space elevator" mostly to finally get the trophy for spending time on hell worlds to get the platinum. This planet is very, very different now, my base and the elevator was fine (I can still jetpack into space from the top, briefly as you really don't last long if you do) but now there's a very weird veiny rock everywhere and the mountains have gone absolutely nuts with gigantic drops that weren't there before. I shall return to investigate more because it is definitely different, there's a really rather horrible tumour like ferrite/oxygen rock dotted about the place that certainly never existed before too.

Has there ever been a more comprehensive redemption arc in gaming than this?
I still haven't played it, as survival games really aren't my jam - and from what I understand, that's basically what NMS is at its core - but damn if Sean Murray and his team haven't gone way above and beyond with all the (free) updates they've released over the years.

Yeah, jumped back into this after the Worlds Pt.1 update recently. Still got my Iteration 1 character/save from the original launch.
Genuinely jaw-dropping how much this game has came on/evolved/developed. It's absolutely stunning, man. If you're at all into chilled out exploration/crafting/base building gameplay loops, I'm really struggling to think of a better, or at least more aesthetically pleasing, title out there.
Absolutely loving it right now.
