But yeah, I don't give a toss one way or another about the Royal Family, I'm just sort of opposed to monarchy in general and globetrotting nonces in particular.

I really think the "at least they bring tourists in" argument is bollocks. Without the royal family, tourists would still want to go and see Buckingham Palace, changing of the guard, parades, etc. It's not like they get to meet the fucking Queen is it? We can get rid of the royals but keep many of the traditions and attractions.
