Just checked and we don't yet seem to have a replacement thread on this one over here.
So, weird question. I'd started this on PC around Christmas time, but got derailed; and since then The Final Cut has come out. I've been in a bit of an eclectic start and drop mood with games recently, so I thought I'd start a fresh playthrough of this (having only been c. 3 hours in on my original attempt). Were the load times always this egregious? On an SSD? Literally 30 seconds plus just to go through a door or down a staircase? I certainly feel like I would have noticed that before ...

They are improved from PS4 to PS5 but still think they are excessively long considering. Absolute demoralising when you realise you forgot to do something in the whirling rags and have to go straight back through the door. Still, it's a premier game. My GF think it's weird how much I sit and laugh at it.

Yeah, I'm playing on PC. Was genuinely taken aback in such a way that I can't believe they were this bad in the original release on PC, but ofc I could be misremembering.

It's a great game, incidentally. I laughed a hell of a lot from what I played

Ah shit need to read the post properly. Would have thought with an SSD and some decent power it would have an advantage over the PS5 though, although I'm a layman when it comes to PC tech. Strange though as I doesn't seem like it should be loading that much compared to other games.

I've been sitting on this one for over a year, really need to pull the finger out and start it.

It's genuinely one of those occasions where failing checks is almost more satisfying than passing them.

Really looking forward to getting the Switch version of this when it eventually comes out, I've heard so many good things about it

Completed it last month, genuinely think it's a classic. It's not for everyone, but the sheer breadth and depth of the writing is so impressive and created a story that put me through the ringer. Laughing, crying, terrified, it's got it all. Looking forward to a second playthrough as a vastly different character this time round.

Started it, binned it, really wasn't in the mood at the time. Hopefully the PS5 update will run much better, the load times were a killer. Please tell me I get to beat on that little bastard child that keeps gobbing off at the in the first area?

Haha I sense you're going to be disappointed.
And the load times are still fucking balls.

Fuck me this is a bit good isn't it? Had £10 credit on xbox and on sale for £15 so picked up last night. Just finished day one and it is just fucking bonkers in the best kind of way.
I can see myself not getting off the sofa at all today and just marathoning this.
Are there any pitfalls to be aware off? Already figured out instadeath is common so saving lots. But any skills needed, or blond alleys to avoid?

Do the side quest with the church ravers, it's fucking amazing.
But no, it's very hard (if not impossible) to permanently screw yourself. You ostensibly have a time limit to solve the murder, but it's very, very generous; you can talk to everyone in the world and still have plenty of time left over. And there's multiple ways to solve each problem (well, the important ones at least)
Even death/terminal depression is avoidable if you quickly down a healing item when your health goes to zero.

Heart attack from trying to get your tie back? Pretty much. Not really to a good start! Also I think I lost hp by looking into mirror.

My first death was a heart attack brought on from looking at a wall behind the hotel where that dickhead kid is

I just did the Pentangue bit. The whole build up, the step by step testing the wind, weighing the ball, learning the rules and then the result may well be my favourite moment in a game in years. I had actual tears of laughter and was giggling the whole way through the aftermath.
What a game.

Yeah, the petanque bit is just a perfect example of how failure in this game is often more interesting and/or better than success.
And it's fucking funny.

Tempted to get it for £15 on Xbox as I guess the load times are miles better. I have it on ps4 but only played maybe five hours and binned it.

When you succeed in the roll, you're basically succeeding in a strength test for a game that is not about strength! That's why learning the rules gives you a penalty to the check. It's a game where your senses and impulses are profoundly untrustworthy, and that is such an interesting idea.

That's what I would suggest to anyone playing the game is to just roll with the punches the game gives you. As bad as failing a red check sounds like, the results are often so fantastic to see and it never hard locks you out of progress, it's just another branch in the story. Some of the best interactions or moments in the game comes from failure.
Also be mindful of your inventory. Some checks can be made easier to pass if you wear an item of clothing that has the related stat. So if you have an empathy check, you could wear your hat that gives +1 empathy that gives a stat bonus and greater percentage to pass

Disco Elysium is the best when you decide on how your character is going to be, and then you play it out exactly like this, even if it means you will totally blunder some specific thing.

There are two threads, which should I bump ? Almost seems too apt for this game.
Is it a game ? Or a downward spiral into a psyche, familiar but forgotten, pieces of fragmented memory cascading towards a collusion, a rememberance of sorts. Jesus, why did I even start this ?
So, yeah, first few hours tonight after it's sat on the HDD for however long, and it's been a trip. The constant narration is perfect for console, no squinting at text, but the control scheme is a little awkward to begin with, to the point I'd almost have preferred a little cursor instead, however inaccurate.
Cuno is being a little cun*, can't quite muster up the sobriety to get the body down, so another night won't matter, right ? And I'm still convinced that collapsed game dev office is still a front for some intel-ops capers, no matter what Kim says. And only realising I had to sort out the hotel payment at 11:30pm after skipping out, which led me to stumbling upon other clues as to what happened when was great.
Love it.

He really doesn't.
I love this game so much, it makes me sad to think about all the crap going on at the company, and how it'll impact any sequel/further world development we might get in future.
