I was waiting for details on these but then thought I'm not interested in spending silly money for a load of tat. All I really want is the extended versions of the first three films in 4k, so I bought them a could of weeks ago for £60.
Personally I don't see this being worth the reported £250 asking price when it's missing the appendices. Tbh, the only extra I was really interested in was the gag reel that the cast saw but which was never released.
Anyway, I love the films, but think this is just a cash grab.

Mods, could this thread perhaps be moved to the Film section?

Nice ta.
I just took a delivery of 4Ks, Fast & Furious Hobbs and Shaw, Waterworld and Creed 1.
Waterworld has an extended version with an extra 40 minutes!
I'll post if any of them are particularly impressive or shite. (Just picture and sound quality wise, I've seen the film's before).

As Lord of the Rings is mentioned to open this thread, worth noting that last year I bought the German versions of the 4k triple pack for, I think, about £40, as opposed to the £60 something the English version goes for. The content of the discs is identical to the English one, it is just the box and the art on the front of discs that are in German.
I use a disc rental service, Cinema Paradiso, for most of my film watching and they do 4K discs. The price of buying them is ludicrous, often being more than 3x the price of the Blu-ray version, that it becomes hard to justify purchasing anything that you don't really want to own. Renting for no extra cost seems a much better option. Does show just how little has made the move to 4K disc though, including many new releases. Since switching to favouring 4K sometime last year, I would say I've only had about 5 or so 4K discs sent.
The latest of which was Predator. Looked absolutely fantastic. The best looking was probably Gemini Man, which was also in 60fps. Film was shit, but it looked incredible.

I got myself a 4K player to go with my first 4K OLED. As you say, the coat of discs really does make it much more of a choice of what to buy (particularly with all of the streaming options vying to steal your limited time). Tempted by Dune at some point (the new one) but not sure what else yet, the fact that there is a big quality difference between releases (upscaled Vs rescanned film etc). Having to read reviews specifically for the image quality is an extra necessary step. Having a decent upscaling TV (Sony OLED) doesn't help.
I have heard the Blade Runners are both really good in 4K so might grab those at some point. Only got 4 discs so far though (a Zavvi 3 for 30 we got at the same time as the player (Joker, Life of Pi and Detective Pikachu) and the extended Addams Family my wife wanted (region free on all 4K is a good thing). (Similar time to do stuff issues with my Retrotink 5x I got at the same time...)
They don't feel as expensive for new releases but for classic stiff the pricing difference is quite scary. I still like having the physical option though.

It's worth buying Gemini Man just to experience 4K at 60fps.
Even if you hate it, it's something to bring out for the dinner parties.

Blade Runner is a good one, and 2049 looked stunning from my brief skim through it. Pacific Rim is supposed to be excellent, so that's next on my list. I quite enjoyed it at the cinema, but it's a bit of a marmite film.
Godzilla Vs Kong is also supposed to be a fantastic demo disc, but fuck watching that again!

Pacific Rim is 'just' a 2K upscale so you don't really get much improved detail, just slightly better compression but the HDR pass they did on it really makes the colours zing.

And the sequel looked like a TV show and 4k really didn't do it any favors.

Many or even most recent films have post production effects and sound mixing done on a 2K intermediate transfer. They can still look fantastic though.

I was out for the jubilee so I went in hmv and bought The Matrix Trilogy. Watching the first film now. Just thought I'd share that it's wowza. Presented in Dolby Vision and Atmos. The Matrix HD blu ray is a film I've seen no small amount of times but this is incredible. If you're on the fence, it's 25% off in store in hmv at £29.99. The first film at least definitely deserves a place in your collection.

Yeah the first film's 4K treatment is absolutely great. I remember the other two not looking as good, for some reason (as well as generally being even worse than I remembered).

Actually saying that they've touched up the skin shading and colouring and in a few scenes it does look a bit wack. Still, the extra level of detail in the scenery and in the bits when it's raining are something else.

I finally got around to watching the Arrow 4K release of Robocop.
I may have seen this film a zillion times but it looks fantastic in 4k. They remastered the Directors Cut bits so it now fits in seamlessly (it was really noticeable which bits were added on the Blu Ray due to the dip in quality).
Overall the picture is quite amazing, I noticed things I'd never noticed before and the Atmos track is really good, maybe not up-to modern movie standards but it's still the best I've ever heard it and that theme tune is still a thing of beauty.
I picked up a few more the other day to add to my pile which I'm looking forward to: 2001, Blade Runner & Interstellar on a 3 for £30 at HMV (along with the Mad Max anthology - 25% off).

I wish Cameron would release the Abyss. I need the 4K directors cut! That would be nice, I've still got my Special Edition 2 Disk DVD, it definitely needs an upgrade. I actually missed off my previous post that I was looking forward to Dog Soldiers (August) to replace my "unwatchable on a 4k TV DVD".

The brand new 4K restoration of Event Horizon is out tomorrow.
Doesn't have the extended orgy and torture scene unfortunately.
