Used cast and call properly for the first time and got to Hades and nearly took him out.
Absolutely rinced the 3rd bosses too. I will not ignore things just because its a shit diamond that you throw at people from now on.

It's a terrible cliché but it really is one of those games that feels like you get to the ACTUAL game after the first time you beat it*. So many questions about how to spend diamonds, what keepsakes in what order, which debuffs to take for heat... * Or to put it another way, defeating Hades once isn't really beating the game...

A basic tip is that when you start rinsing the first stage, try starting with Hypnos’ trinket. It gives you, eventually, enough to just buy a boon from Charon which gives you quite a decent head start and then you can swap for the dog collar or whatever on the second biome.

I've been starting with Pierced Butterfly because I can fairly reliably do a few damage-free encounters in Tartarus, but I only end up with 12-16% before I switch it out, which is roughly equivalent to a single attack boon at Rare rarity...

Also what's the consensus on the Demeter boon that resets all your boons to Common and then levels them every 3 encounters? Ie. When is it too late to justify doing it?

I will take it any time before the 4th biome depending on the average rarity of my boons. Sometimes you just get a suckass run and it does help.
Each of the small rooms counts as an encounter, so you can max everything out again by the time youve finished anyway.

That Demeter boon is great, took it half way through Elysium & had 3 heroics after 1 and a bit Styx corridor things.

Finally did the Hydra - with the gauntlets, which is one of my least favourite weapons - still no cheevos though.
Edit: Apparently it's to do with Quick Resume.

Done 3 clears so far and tinkering around with the heat settings and leveling the keepsakes. I've still got 5 of those to find, hopefully they'll be unearthed by keeping on playing. I've never got this far with a rouge like. Never cleared a run of anything, so they've done something right with this.

Void Bastards and Moonlighter were my first roguelikes - I've tried others since, but nothing stuck until Hades. It's excellent.
Unless Slay The Spire counts... certainly feel like there are similarities in the way you build a run by picking your route and your cards/boons

Got Hades down to his 2nd form, then got absolutely shredded in seconds. I wasn't expecting him to go as Hulk smash as he did.
Do people bother clearing all the rooms or just enough to confront Hades?

I go for him as soon as I get the sac/key and refill of the health bar. No point in wasting that.

I'm playing Monster Train on the Switch right now, which is Slay the Spire deckbuilding + turn-based tower defence. It's pretty great if you like that sort of thing. Easier overall than StS, but still really meaty. Darkest Dungeon is great too, though it's a lot less forgiving than your Hadeses and such.

I've just maxed out the mirror (apart from Fated Persuasion, which seems a bit redundant now I'm getting reroll dice from keys). I'm still losing to Hades much more often than not. I can invest more on companions and a couple of remaining gem upgrades, but it does feel like I've hit a wall in terms of progression. It's annoying that you can't stack heat beyond 1 until you've escaped, because most of my runs now aren't earning bonuses any more (already earned for the first 3 bosses).

Wait, you've unlocked everything on the mirror but not actually beat Hades yet? How many runs are you on?

No I've beaten Hades once, on about 55 runs. It's entirely possible I'm just not very good at the game, but I was hoping I could brute force my way through it with enough upgrades.
I also find the poison rats in the last level an absolute ballache because most of my builds involve dash strike rather than distance damage, and the poison pools take chunks off my health before I can get to a cure chalice thingy.

Leave them until last. Kill everything that throws projectiles and then just wear their armour down with casts. You can stunlock them with pretty much every weapon when they don't have armour.
That applies to every stage, tbh. Kill the ranged enemies first and the rest aren't so bad.

Made maybe my favourite build so far on an escape today which was all based around dash - extended blade rift with the pull effect, lightning from attack, jolt from lightning, weak with 15% charm chance attached and Hermes' +3 dash. Combined it with the shotgun and rocket upgrades for the rail and the boon that upgrades boons every 3 encounters. Definitely had luck on my side with those rolls.

Made it to the temple, so pleased with some progress. I generally find rouguelikes frustrating, but similar to Dead Cells this manages enough meta progression to keep me going - it's a also just a lot of fun to play.

After all the chat about Cast recently, I've been doing nothing but cast build recently and some of them are phenomenal. My favourite so far has been with Zeus's Electric Shot with Artemis's True Shot, with 6x cast thanks to Artemis and Chaos, plus extra bounces, Exit Wounds, and Flurry Cast. An easy win.
Hunting Blades is next on my list: enemy seeking blade rifts, yum.

You can stack different casts from multiple gods? I assumed one would replace the other like with various attack/special boons, will have to try that

You can stack stat bonuses on casts, so Aries universal damage bonus would make your cast stronger but his blade rift would replace what you have.

Ok, might have spoken too soon when I said I'd hit a wall. Using casts for range definitely helped- I beat Hades again today and almost managed 2 in a row. Damage on dislodge and auto return FTW, I was just kiting him around the arena.

I'm having a lot of fun with builds now. Cast and movement focus and always jumping down the chaos holes.
Ended up playing until 1am last night, when I usually wrap up around 11.
Escaped 6 times in 70 runs. Not with the Bow or Spear yet, the latter being my initial go to weapon.

If you've just started, I'd just suggest just playing through until you at least get enough keys to unlock all six weapons. Then play with each weapon and see what works best for you.

Don't neglect the cast because it's a shitty looking diamond thing like I did.
It's really useful.

Focus on collecting keys and darkness in your early runs, as unlocking the mirror is key to long-term success.
Give Cerberus a nectar and equip his collar, to give you more health and time.
Dash attack. A lot. But take your time - there's no rush (for now...), so get out of the crush and make space to take on enemies in small numbers.
In each run try to go with boons from the same 2/3 specific gods, rather than take a scatter gun approach. It's the easiest way to get access to the duo and legendary boons later on.
Aim to get boons that boost the same one or two of your moves (attack/special/cast), and use that move extensively. If you spread them across all three, you're more likely to struggle.
Always take the Daedalus hammer room (unless you're going for a cast build).
