Must be something weird about your cinema if it doesn't go dark. Certainly do at the ones I go to.
I believe lights are actually often controlled by the film itself, which is why you sometimes get a bit of variety on whether the lights come up immediately when the credits start to roll or they may stay down for the first part of the credits.

All those people getting up to go to the loo need to be able to see where they are going. And how else are the rest going to find their phones?

It's infuriating. There was a Cineworld (now a car park) that just basically left the lights on and the Printworks cinema barely dimmed them the other week for Mission Impossible.
That and I could see the crinkles at the top corners of the screen.

I have asked about the lights issue in the past at one screen that was dimmed rather than dark, and was told it was health and safety that they had to keep the lights dimmed, fire exits clearly showing, being able to see the steps properly etc etc. it does seem to be very random between cinemas as to how dark or light the room is.

Yeah, I've definitely been to cinemas where the lights are dimmed a bit, and nowhere near the actual dark I've experienced elsewhere.
The bright green emergency exit signs can be annoying too.

There is very little more in life that I want that I don't have than a decent size proper home cinema. 120inch screen, proper 4k projector, 13 channel audio, acoustic treatment.
Hotdog stand at the back.

With that subscription that gives you access to theatrical releases at the same time as your local multiplex.

Partly down to customers:'too dark, too loud, too cold, too light, too quiet, too warm.'

Hotdog stand at the back. I used to have a projector and 110inch screen when I lived up North. Then I moved back to London and now have a 55" TV. It's 4K/HDR and looks stunning, but the impact really isn't anywhere near close. Still got the same sound system, with added upfiring front Atmos speakers, and whilst that adds a lot to the experience, it's just not as good for films (thought does work in the day). Hoping to move into a house again sooner than later and whilst it would certainly be a luxury, i'll be doing everything I can to see if I can get a projector setup again (though would be happy with 5.1.4 or even just 5.1).

I do actually have a fake 4k projector and 90inch screen, but the screen I have is one that rolls away, and it is a faff to setup for general watching (and to put away again).
I also have a 120inch outdoor screen, and it is awesome, but needs to be non windy, and also lots of faff to set up (plus due to neighbours we use headphones...).
I'm going to see if I can rearrange the loft to make it a bit more multi purpose, with a nice sofa that pulls out instead of a bed that gets used for a small fraction of the year for guests, and an in ceiling screen.

We went to see Wonka over Christmas at our local Odeon Luxe (ohh fancy). I forgot it was fairly expensive, as I saw Dune there, but nothing else since. Anyway the fucking price each was £16! As we went into the screen, I thought surely there won't be much riff raff in here for that price, but no of course you've got some whispers at the back... Anyway it's probably the nicest cinema I've been to, but the price doesn't really justify it.

Also I've just found that you can get cheap Odeon / Luxe tickets for Mon - Thurs through Amazon Prime.
Sky VIP also give 2 free Vue tickets / month valid Sun - Thurs. Despite this I still can't be arsed to go.

Everyman take orders before the film starts and then waiters bring it to you. Pretty sure you can't order midway through. Also, vastly preferable to popcorn munchers as sourdough pizza gobblers don't make nearly as much noise. Do they bring the food during the film, to eat in your seat? Isn't this very disruptive? I'd like to see the return of film intervals. It'd give people chance to go to the toilet without missing the film, eat their pre-ordered pizza, or order another drink. There'd be negatives for the cinema chain, such as additional policing of tickets, and a reduction in the number of showings possible per day, but I think overall it'd be a win-win situation for everyone. It may ruin the flow of the film, but maybe cinemas could also do interval-free showings of the same film, to give people the option.

Order before the film and it comes out before it starts, good menu choice and great drinks. And the cinemas themselves are top notch and really comfy, it's like a treat day going to it. Made me think back to being a kid and how cool it was to go to the cinema. Pricey but worth it and the price usually keeps the plebs away.

This is the thing that's always confused about people who go to the cinema to look at their phone for the running time or have a conversation or whatnot. You've paid for this movie, it's not especially cheap these days too. Why?

They can't concentrate long enough without picking up their phone and having a quick look.
