Think I gotta parry an instant before the enemy attack connects, but the window seems incredibly small. It is incredibly small. It's like 6 frames for shields I think.

Solaire? Yeah, but you don't get many chances to summon him. I'm gonna need 10 medals, so I have no choice but to farm bugs, I guess. Meanwhile, for now I have both a Spear+10 and a Divine Partisan+5. I don't think either will be very useful in Sen's Fortress though. I should also think about switching to a great shield. No real point in using a standard shield if I'm not going to parry. You have a choice. Summon people. Get summoned. It's literally that easy. I know the x360 playerbase is pitiful but it's still better than taking the 3% drop chance of those bugs.

It takes about 100 seconds to kill all 8 bugs in demon ruins and then use homeward to get back to the bonfire, so:
Drop chance is 3%, so for a 90% chance to get 1 medal, you'd have to kill around 76 bugs. Let's say 72, because it divides by eight, so that means 900 seconds or 15 minutes farming for a 90% drop chance.
So it should be quite possible to get the needed 6 medals in 1.5 hours of farming. Will you get 6 summons in 1.5 hours?

This run is certainly different from usual. Compared to my usual "axe roller" build, I'm finding that some enemies that used to give me trouble have been very easy this time (looking at you, Capra) but others have become harder (those guards at Anor Londo suddenly are much more annoying). The raw damage output of the spear also can't quite compare. I was doing scratch damage against the Iron Golem, while Tarkus did all the work himself. It takes about 100 seconds to kill all 8 bugs in demon ruins and then use homeward to get back to the bonfire, so: Drop chance is 3%, so for a 90% chance to get 1 medal, you'd have to kill around 76 bugs. Will you get 6 summons in 1.5 hours? At a glance, probably not. There are almost no messages or bloodstains either. I'll give it a go, but not expecting much. If I were to take my chances with the bugs, I could always use the Covetous Ring and pop some humanity to greatly increase the drop rate.

Ive done a fair bit of medal farming on several faith characters, it's usually about an hour to get 20 or so using Gold Serpent Ring, Symbol of Avarice and 10+ soft humanity. Chuck headphones on and grind it out

I finished my first full run through last night, having given up fairly early (the gargoyles I think) when it first came out. I've been through Bloodborne, DS3 and Demons since, so only DS2 to go (oh yes, and Elden Ring. I'm pretending Sekiro doesn't exist).
I have regrets- primarily I think I was pretty over-levelled for the last half and bulldozed through a few bosses with very little skill or style. At some point tactics switched from fast dodging dex to sticking on Havel's kit and ploughing through two handing a black knight sword- this possibly worked too well.
Souls withdrawal symptoms kicking in but I think I need need something lighter/shorter/easier before committing to Elden Ring.

I don't think it was overleveling. Levels don't matter that much in DS1.
The second half always felt a bit half-assed. Almost all of the hard bosses are in the first half, and that isn't just because of worse equipment, but also due to a slight unfairness (fighting in cramped spaces, dealing with two bosses at once) rather than an actual skill check. That isn't to say that all bosses in the first half are difficult - I still can't believe they give you that many souls for the Gaping Dragon.
If you want something lighter, not sure I'd go for DS2 yet. At times it's easier, significantly so even. Other times it just kicks you in the teeth for no reason.

If not overlevelling I'll assume it was skill!
Yes, need a gap before DS2 plus I'm waiting until it's dirt cheap on PSN, it was £4 in the January sale so assume it'll drop again soon.

I can't say I agree that levels don't matter. Levels let you put more points into endurance, which lets you use much heavier shields and armor. Sure there is not THAT much of a difference between e.g. Elite Knight set and Black Iron set, or between Balder Shield and Tower Shield, but I've found that it is exactly the difference that makes Manus and Kalameet doable on the first try.

Never understood the levels not mattering thing either. Just having more health or stamina makes a difference

They matter a bit but if you know what you’re doing it’s still easy sub SL30

That's only if you've been through it a few times though. For most players, levelling will make things easier. If you're still learning the game, more health is going to keep you alive longer in fights

It's not that leveling doesn't help, but I think among the Souls games (don't know about Sekiro as I haven't played it), DS1 is the one that gives you the least benefits.

There's no levelling in Sekiro, just items you can use to upgrade your health every so often and a skill tree. DS1 is the game I'm least familiar with (and is also my least favourite, sorrynotsorry)

Starting to hit a few roadblocks with my spear and shield run. Lautrec and his goonies are a massive pain, and while I've always defeated them with a hit-and-run method, that's a lot harder when you aren't as agile. I'm postponing the fight for later, but again, I think I'll have to change my strategy entirely here. I think you have to solo him too, so that's even worse. Maybe it's better to wait until I have several offensive miracles at the ready.
I also had issues with Ornstein and Smough. Mostly because the shield was utterly useless against that giant hammer. Luckily I managed to find a summon sign, some absolute champion who basically tanked both of them by himself. Had a spear and shield build like me, but obviously a lot better, since he was barely taking any damage. This legend even understood immediately that I wanted to kill Smough first. I don't know who this guy was, but bless him.
I used the soul to make the Dragonslayer Spear, but it might have been a mistake - it doesn't seem so strong, and Demon titanite is hard to come by. Maybe I'll revert it and go for an assortment of elemental spears instead.

Stick with it and go hunt down the Demons*, it's a solid weapon once upgraded. *Entrance to Darkroot, 3 (4?) in Sen's, one in AL, one in Cats. Those plus the treasure finds should max it but id not there's a respawning one in LI

I'm still using Astora's, because I can't be arsed to farm Green Titanite for the divine upgrades. Fuck those slimes with their stupid damage reduction.

Farm slugs in lower Blightown my dude, they drop 5 at a time (or a Large Titanite) and there are no such issues with resistances. Spawn at that sewer bonfire, head to the entrance, face northwest towards the roots and fill ya boots.

Pfft! “Levelling”. “Upgrades”.
Just roll a level 1 unarmed Deprived and run around punching everything in your loincloth, noobs. Go on, punch ‘em. Punch ‘em all.

Farm slugs in lower Blightown Yeah, I'll do that. It's just a long trek down there, so I put it off until I'm finally down there anyway, which I am now. But I'm gonna face Mrs. Creepy-crawly with Astora's I think, because I don't want to go up for the smith and then back down again. I also have a +5 Claymore, so if Astora's doesn't work, I'll use that. So far, the build works pretty well with only 16 STR and 10 DEX. Gonna go for full faith scaling and see how far I can make it.

Maybe not then. You can damage them pretty well with a lit torch in DS3. Assume the slugs are those lumps of goo that drop on your head

Yeah there’s no torch in DS1
The slugs are green things that hop towards you. They drop lots of green titanate but unfortunately you can’t warp to the bonfire near them

I farmed all the green titanite I needed when I was in Blighttown. The lack of a proper fast travel is the most annoying thing in the game imo.
Divine weapons are fairly weak though. Other than in the catacombs, I'd rather use something else. Flame or lighting weapons tend to be more reliable. But overall, the most versatile weapon is a physical +15, because it can be enchanted for extra damage.
Anyway, now that Tiny & Big are done and dusted, I must choose where to go next. Not sure if I should go through the Demon Ruins so I can farm those sunlight medals and get my miracles, or New Londo so I can grab the large ember.
My DPS seems kinda low. The Four Kings are gonna be a massive pain. And the Firesage Demon probably won't be much better.
