It's not just a one off, his whole time as our manager there have been these dire performances and it's showing no sign of changing.

Agreed, it's so early in the season as well. We could have managed the game better but they were really spurred on by the sending off and scored from the one chance they created and a brain fart from Lingard. For all the possession they were just taking pots shots from long range. Yep, nothing pissed me off more tonight than that back pass. A draw would have been perfectly respectable in the circumstances. To lose like that with the last kick for such a shit mistake was very annoying. I really, really don't like lingard. I know he's a perfectly useful player and his goal at the weekend was really good, he absolutely has a fair amount of ability but he's just not for me. His decision to not leave bizarrely kind of sticks in my craw. I can't put my finger on the correct term for him but I just don't think he's a serious enough player.

We cruise to a win if not for that imo. Edit; basically I'm saying let's judge it after a few more games. I'm not saying it's perfect.

No lessons seem to have been learned from that awful Villarreal game. It's the exact same United with better individuals filling up the spots in the team and therefore skewing results a bit more favourably for us.
You watch City, or Chelsea or Liverpool and their movement off the ball and general team play is an absolute million miles above what we do on the pitch. You don't even have to be a football buff to see the difference between us and top teams. By the naked eye we play massively inferior football to the teams we're supposedly rubbing shoulders with. We get away with a lot by the individual brilliance of players we've spent bajillions of pounds on. But as a collective we're cack relatively speaking when you take into account who we should be competing with.
It's nice that the red card gives us another excuse but the red card is far from the issue we actually have as a team.

Lewandowski has scored 2 and in 18 consecutive CL games.

Yea I do agree that we rely too heavily on individual brilliance to make the difference and game management wasn't great tonight, by any stretch. I'm still going to give it the rest of cl campaign to see where we are at in 2-3 months. This is the team and coach for the foreseeable so I'm going to be behind them as much as I can.

Oh absolutely. Ole has met minimum requirements up to now so it's hardly fair to give him the boot given we've been rebuilding. But there really aren't any excuses this season. You look at how Chelsea dealt with going down to 10 at Anfield the other week and how we did against, with no offense intended, comparitive minnows this evening and it's absolutely worlds apart. Isn't like we've got a bunch of mercenaries any more, so something's gotta give.

It really doesn't matter who United sign. While they stick with the tactically useless, walking "This is fine" Meme that is Ole they'll always fall a bit short of what they're aiming for.

I know what you mean Rum, about Lindgard. He strikes me as a chancer. Someone who has so much ability when he puts his mind to it, but chooses to coast instead. His general attitude pisses me off too, seems far too focused on creating another insta meme or whatever. But that might just be because I'm not a Utd fan, and I'm old. So what the fuck do I know!

There are no excuses this season for us and ole has said that himself. However we just need to qualify for the next round. Hopefully this will be an early wake up call that we aren't going to blitz the Champions league group because we have Ronny back.
Last season complacency at the end of the group stage fucked us over. Now we don't have room for that and the players should know that.
Saying that...what the fuck kind of pass was that from Jesse?!

94th min of 5 mins injury time...all you have to do is hoof the ball down the pitch. I'm still torn up about it, its just such a moment of madness to pass THROUGH your defense right to an opposing players feet. You could almost swear it was deliberate.

Maybe he was highlighting why he didn't sign a new contract, cause he's prone to extreme stupidity.

No that's pretty much it for me I mean clearly he has ability. I do also think he's just slightly too old for how "memey" and "with the kids" he is. I mean the jlingz stuff is just so cringe

On Ole being manager... I thought Lampard was doing a decent job at Chelsea largely. The narrative spin then was gajillion new players, hard to bed in straight away, blah blah.
Bring in Tuchel and that instantly got ripped up and the team has been unbelievably good ever since (even given the players available). The tactics have been completely transformed, the team sheet upended (no Tammy, no Chilwell which saddens me) and the defence is so tight I feel shocked when we let in a goal.
Ole is doing an OK job I think. Surpassing minimum like someone said. But he can't have long with the players he has now. Need Tommy T mk. Two.

I don't think anyone including Ole is in any doubt that he'll be finished as United manager this season if he doesn't win something big that means at least the FA cup. He might be sacked then too depending on how we perform in the league.
Like I said earlier, Ole himself has said there is no place to hide now.

Oof. Milan's first real attack gets an equaliser against the run of play after being battered.
Now they've just scored another.

Utterly bizarre, completely one sided for most of the match but as seems to be common with Liverpool they don't take their chances and get punished for it.

Amazing first 15 mins but we always make it so fucking difficult. Jota hasn't had much effect - mainly looks to be trying to work out where to put himself since Robertson has been so forward.
Definitely more goals here - though I'm not sure which side will take them.

Liverpool back in front but I don't think the goals have dried up yet.
Edit: ok they did dry up.
I was certainly entertained as a neutral.

That was a cracking game of football. A little bit too intense for me as a Liverpool fan thanks to 120 seconds of slack attention from Liverpool.
But I guess ignoring that it was a solid performance and importantly 3 pts with the other 2 teams dropping points.

Can breathe again... entertaining and thankfully we didn't shoot ourselves in the foot.
A good night's work and hope the other group game's stalemate allows us to keep our heads in front in the upcoming matches.
Trent and Robbos work rate was excellent but Salah was excellent. I worry Keita isn't ever going to match the expectation but to have Thiago on hand is a nice option. Still rue how we let Gini go.
Henderson's belt reminded me of the FA Cup game against West Ham.
If only we could purge those brainfart 5 minutes of madness.

Guardiola, manager of the champions of England last season, actually pleading for fans to turn up for their next home game on Saturday at 3pm. I know the date and time because Guardiola had to specify it.

I'd be interested to see a comparison of the number of fans Chelsea and Man City have/had at the same time in the cycle. Probably difficult to measure but I think it boils down to the fact that City have a solid core fanbase but will struggle to grow much.
