From what I’ve heard it’s stiff, literal and sloppy, which is unusual for a Sega published game. Someone was annoyed enough by it to make a website but I forget what it was called.

Wasn't Royal's localization meant to be improved? I thought it was Vanilla 5 that people complained about.

Never had any issues with the localisation personally.

Debating between the OLED Switch or non-OLED but better performing Steam Deck for P5R.... People talk about how it looks but how are the voices (seeing as they are likely compressed with two tracks on there)? Am a couple of hours in on Switch and the audio is fine IMO. I'm playing in handheld mode and it doesn't sound any worse to me than other games. Performance seems fine so far. I mean, there are obviously compromises made to get it running on Switch but none of them bother me, although I'm sure Digital Foundry will be along any second to point out all the flaws and get everybody riled up in the comments. I'm just happy that it's finally playable on a handheld system, like Persona games should be That's the way I would play it so tempted. Missed out on sub 40 quid pre-orders now so may wait for it to drop a touch and grab it then. Still got other Switch games to power through before I would play it too. In other news I finally grabbed a UK Soul Hackers 2 for convenience now it has dropped a little (£32.99) so got that to play too...

Was it under £40? Still £41ish at base, which was the lowest I saw it go in the past month or so.
I just can't make up my mind about it...

Base had it on Ebay for about £43 but ebay offered a five quid voucher. I ummed and ahhed and it went up today making the price higher. The website is now cheapest that I can see as you mentioned.

Like they've been recorded inside a recording booth. (which obviously they were, it's just strange when you're talking to someone outside and it sounds like they're locked in a small room)

I think that might be audio compression, sadly. I've read that there is a big difference between the cut scene voice and in-game voice quality.

I mean, it's fine, really. It's not like I can't understand what people are saying, it just sounds a bit weird.

If you're finding the quality of the text rendering a bit shonky on the Deck because the game's internal scaler isn't very good, go into the properties and increase the resolution. 1920x1200 looked good to me, albeit with the odd slightly wonky line. I did have to reduce shadow detail to medium to hold 60 at 11 watts but you get a very nice pass of supersampling which works very well with the game's graphical style.

I'm sure it is, it's just a bit of bugbear of mine that a lot of third-party ports on the Switch have compressed audio. I understand they want to cut costs on cartridges but it does feel cheap on a port that costs £55. Anyway, all this Persona talk has made me wish I had my Vita around so I could finally get round to starting the copy of P4G I bought on sale a decade ago.

Just finished the first dungeon. Fuck me I forgot how frustrating and annoying it is before you level up a bit and have some personas. Being one shotted is never fun, I wish they didn't have that in there that main guy can get one hit and game over. At least let you revive him.
Apart from that just as good as I remember, I could replay this so many times.

Yeah, that was super annoying. I got into one of the early fights with the pumpkin heads. Mona swings and misses, then both of them target Joker Joestar (my main character) with Agi. Boom, JoJo is dead, restart from safe room.

www.personaproblems.com/Can't argue that the examples they give are pretty bad. Some are just awkward, some make no sense. One of them uses a made up word, haha

It wouldn't be an SMT game without insta-death oneshots though, and you're never really that far from a save point in the dungeons.
Finished the first palace, got to the final boss but was pretty underlevelled when I got there so had to do a bit of grinding to get through the fight. Mona unlocking Media at level 11 what what I needed to get through it

It would be, it would just be a better version of it. I loved Persona 5 but there are clearly some really annoying design choices. I have similar feelings towards Yakuza games as well.

Soul Hackers 2 IIRC doesn't do team wipes if the MC goes down in combat. It's always annoyed the shit out of me in P5, and I don't even play on hard.

Anyone tried this on Xcloud, seems like it should be good for it (with regards to handheld gaming - although not sure if it has touch controls implemented...)

Yeah, played a bit in bed just now. It's got touch controls, but I was using a controller for it. Pretty much the ideal game for streaming.

Think I may hold off on this until there is a Steam sale. Played a bit on the PlayStation and enjoyed it quite a bit, but found the handholding really frustrating. Turns out I was only a few hours away from it opening up more (think I was in sewers driving around the Morgana wagon, either near the end of it or just finished it)
I could play through Game Pass, but I want it available on my Steam Deck (yes, there is streaming as an option. Tried it with a couple of games and streaming remains terrible on my Internet connection).

PSA for anyone playing P5R: the battle theme music is tied to whatever costume you've got Joker using. So if you're confused as to why the music has changed to something sucky, check to see what Joker is wearing.
It's a bit weird/annoying that you can't just choose your favourite battle theme from a menu, but there you go.

Using Catherine costumes at the mo, and wondered why it had changed to some sort of smooth Jazz.

I fancy playing one of these, so: which one's better, P4G or P5R?
I'm tempted to get P5R on the Switch, but have always been put off by the massiveness of it (100+ hrs apparently). I still have the copy of P4G I bought on Vita around a decade ago but never got round to playing - I've given it a quick try though and it seems intriguing. But that's also a big game, though apparently not quite as big as P5R.
Knowing me, it would take me a good few months to get through each one, so what to do - just stick with P4G for now, or skip straight to P5R (the most polished and refined entry in the series)?

It makes it much easier if you already own 4 for the Vita. Just play that to get a feel for the series. It arguably has a better cast anyway (but I still prefer 3 out of the modern Personas. but not the Portable version).

If you already have P4G, just stick with that for now. You've already got it, it plays nicely on the Vita, and this way you won't miss the QOL changes and improvements when you move to P5, compared to doing it the other way around.

Not sure I'd call P5 the most polished in the series - the translation isn't great. They're all massively long. Persona 3 and 4 both took around 120 hours each for me
P4 is a murder mystery in a small town
P5 is set in the city where you're somewhat of a vigilante
Alternatively, if you like hot yellow, play P4. If you like red, P5

Cheers all - P4G it is then! I do like the cozy small-town mystery feel of it. Also forgot to mention I played a fair amount of P3P when that first came out, but I think I stopped around 40hrs in, so the chances of me getting through the entirety of any of these games is quite slim anyway.
