I was checking out the other place and saw a story about the fact that the boys and girls at Sony are still at work, refining the features available on the PS5. Checked the comments and saw this, which made me laugh.
What features are you really wanting to see on your console?

Better range of resolutions (ultrawide would be nice, given it’s becoming a PC standard, but I get why consoles wouldn’t have it) and VRR would pretty much do it for me.

I miss the What's New section, it's nice to see what other folks are playing/liking with a few screenshots thrown in.

I want folders back - seems like such a strange thing to omit, having added it to the PS4 partway through its lifecycle.

I'm jealous of the HD Rumble or whatever it's called on the PS5 controllers. I'd like that for my XBox.
Might have misunderstood the thread title TBH

I would like to see improvements to the store. I've not delved too much into it, but seems to be a pain to browse. It would also be really handy to be able to see what is actually exclusive to PlayStation. As someone that owns a PC and a Switch too, I want to be able to make an informed decision as to whether the PS5 is the right place for me to buy something (although I understand why Sony may not want that).
Probably the biggest feature I want to see is Dolby Vision support, even if that is just for when playing 4k blu-ray and/or streaming content.

I buy it all this stuff and keep feeding it in, the least it could do is tell me it loves me occasionally 🤷♂️

1440p for my desk and VRR would do it for me. They feel like basic features that should have been there from day 1, and the latter will always cause me to consider a multiplat game for the Xbox first. More accessible power options would be nice - hold the button and they're one option away kind of thing instead of going down and then all the way across. 50% of the time I open the menu it's for that.

I don't understand why basic features like folders and themes weren't included from the start.
Basics like pin's, different size icons (smaller, so I can fit more games on screen) and better filtering so I can hide old demo's would be good.
The store is also very poor, I used to browse a lot on PS4 and would be tempted to buy games on sale. But because of the shitty design I hardly look at it, although I've cut my needless spending so there is a plus!

VRR you cunts.
Watched the Digital Foundry thing on the PS5 version of Death Stranding. The quality mode runs at 4k with a fluctuating FPS of 50-60 frames.
No worries I thought, VRR will take care of that. Half an hour in and I've got tearing and stuttering and then realised that Sony are fucking backwards on next gen features.
Reminded me of the whole "real next gen" PS3 stuff when unlike the 360, they didn't include any HD output cables in the box, just an RGB scart.

You can edit the quick menu now, so you can set the power options wherever you want in the quick menu bar.

I miss the What's New section, it's nice to see what other folks are playing/liking with a few screenshots thrown in. Yeah, I liked this section. It was sometimes useful to see what others on your friends list were playing almost as a form of game discovery, seeing things you might not realise were on the store or seeing stuff you might already own via PS+ but had forgotten about. I'd like to see folders make a return. As Geoff mentions in the post above, the change in the PS button press has driven me mad sometimes too, so the option to change that would be nice. The ability to upload screenshots to other platforms other than 'Twitter'. I use imgur a lot, so that would be useful and save a lot of faffing about with usb sticks between the console and pc.

I think the only thing I'd like at this point is VRR.
Folders would be alright but only to throw the PS Plus and Now icons into one place, so won't make much difference to me. I'm alright with the button presses, and having the quick bar on a quick press makes more sense now - I don't need to drop back to the front end regularly when you can navigate to most places you need via the menu.

Seems to be strongly rumoured that VRR is coming in December.

There's a PS Exclusives section under the Collections tab. There is, but I've looked in there and seen plenty of games that I can get on PC. I suspect they are lumping console and timed exclusives in as well as actual exclusives. If we were dreaming big on features we would like to see, I would love them to add full backwards compatibility with previous gens. It would be great to be able to play any game from PS1, 2 or 3 era, either through putting the disc in or purchasing a game through the store. Unlikely to happen, as I expect it would require a lot of work to implement and work well (although 1 and 2 would likely be fine with open source emulation and just brute forcing it).

PC is never normally included in stuff like this, though I guess MS are starting to differentiate because GP differs per platform. Typically 1st party don't care about availability on PC as a selling point for the consoles, it's more about reasons to not buy into another console eco system (and even then it's only really between MS and Sony). Sony seem to be more onboard with that now that they're publishing on PC too.

VRR is a given, should have been there at launch
That aside, I'd like it to work with my Harmony remote so I don't have to go through several keypresses just to switch it off.
Be nice to be able to disable the glowing lights too.

I discovered yesterday that you can change the order of the items in the overlay that pops up when you press the PlayStation button. Might save you a bunch of button clicks. Edit: just noticed after posting that my gem of wisdom has been mentioned several times already.

Cheers guys... Will have a look at the settings now. That's one thing off my wishlist at least, and if VRR is coming in December I might as well hold off on starting Death Stranding.

Oh, another slightly more realistic one. It would be really handy if you could have the console automatically turn off from rest mode after a certain period. Bonus points if you could set it to do that after either downloads/installations or controller charging is complete, but just setting some timer would be good too.

I'd like your library to permantly organise things in alphabetical order. PS5 features on other consoles. Series X and Switch with adaptive triggers would be nice. Which would mean that Switch would also finally get analog triggers.

On PS4, you could press R1 and L1 to scroll to the beginning and end of the dashboard. Not sure why they got rid of that Pressing the PS button twice would also take you back to the last screen, which was handy and is also missing on the PS5. A demo section on the PS store would also be nice, I couldn't find one

A faster way to view friends online rather than through the Game Base, and switch that view to show friends rather than parties first.
In the store, when sorting sale items by price show them sorted by sale price, rather than by original price... 🤦♂️

I'm a simple man, all I want is a web browser, media player and some folder options like wot we have on PS4. In the store, when sorting sale items by price show them sorted by sale price, rather than by original price... 🤦♂️ This'd be nice too. Good shout.

In my defense, because I posted this in the PS5 section, the title of the thread makes sense. If you keep that in mind, the 'your console' is the PS5, not whatever other console you may have (But yes, the title is maybe a tad too ambiguous. Apologies)
