Haha I bet you've not even seen a compilation of the cheesy specialist one-liners at the end of each game.
A gritty military shooter; a world ravaged by war, solemn soldiers mourning the countless dead, as the very planet teeters on the brink of destruction.
"Well, THAT just happened!" "What a time to be alive."

I'll come back to this at some point, but I'm going back to BF5 for now. Vastly underrated IMO and included with the price of Gamepass. Just a shame they cut off the content as soon as they did.
Only done the trial so far, but the times I was having fun in this was when it felt like other games in the series. Then you die to 4 hovercraft and get swamped by 20 people.
If the likes of Jackfrags and Brokenmachine teaming up in their turbo elite squads seem find it frustrating at times, us mortals playing with randoms have no hope.

I actually use Sundance a lot but I really wish they'd nerf the ability to pull out the wing suit so close to the ground as it just feels wrong and out of place.

Yup, I basically only play Sundance. The double anti-vehicle grenade special (or scatter frag/emp pulse, should the situation call for it) is amazing; the mobility is also unmatched, and I just rock C4 for larger tank take downs and a proxy grenade for easy spotting/xp grinding.
They do need to nerf the wing suit though, fun as it is. Hard sell right now, mind you, given that it’s one of the few ‘fun’ things in the game.
… And yet here I am, still absolutely caning it despite all its unarguable shite. I only paid for the month of EA Play Pro, though, so will see how I feel once time’s up.

The dev team have pushed out their intended short-term roadmap, which is an interesting read and with some good stuff in there:

I tried the BFBC2 portal before my trial ran out and wow they REALLY fucked the gunplay up. Can't fucking hit anything half the time. Bullets just exiting the barrel at 90 degree angles.

Big fixes in those updates. I’m going to miss my hovercraft I ain’t gonna lie but being able to use all the weapons instead of a handful will make up for it a bit. Kudos to DICE for getting on this stuff straight away. Get these updates out, have a Christmas break and then maintain the impetus.

Yeah, the BC2 SMGs are utterly useless at the moment, hopefully the patch will fix it. The BF3 and 1942 guns are much better so hopefully it'll make it a lot more fun. The other big issue BC2 has is the squad spawn system doesn't work on smaller Rush maps as your team mates are always classified as being in combat.

Fuck me.
Frame rate down to a slide show when in a tank.
On series x. Surely it should be able to run this.

It's generally smooth but sometimes it freezes for a few seconds on the series X. If you want to see a total shitshow give the Xbox one version a go...

I was interested in getting this until it turned out to be an unfinished mess. So I went back to Battlefield 1 for a couple nights.
Now I remember that I don't even really like battlefield games. Cunts just behind you all game. Fucking dreadful spawns if you play on your own. Million snipers hiding miles away. Just boring half the time.
Could Blizzard stop harassing all the women and get a move on with Overwatch 2.

Well considering my moaning about this, I’ve not stopped playing it all week. Level 31 now and the nuances are starting to click. There’s still some mad decisions that I hope they retcon but all in all, it’s good to be playing.
The learning curve was quite steep, especially if you have built up a lot of battlefield muscle memory.

I've been spending a bit more time with it too. Only level 11 or so, but slowly getting to grips with it.
I can only cope with a few games of conquest though before I feel the need to play something else.
Usually a quick blast of forza 5 or cod vanguard.

Considering how many people I've been slaughtering with the AK24 I'd say so. It's a bit ridiculous how the best way to get any gear is to play Breakthrough with bots but trying to get gear for a tank in a public match is incredibly difficult. Huge patch with update 3 tomorrow so plenty will be fixed and there's another one this month too.
"Fixed issue where Bots sometimes didn’t revive players" - sometimes don't revive? Fucking hell they're almost too human at times, I've played a bunch of bot matches for gear and I think I've been revived twice.
Really enjoying the game after update 2, assault rifles actually hit things and performance on PS5 has been fine too. Got crossplay off and getting into games is quick as well.
Had an awesome round of Breakthrough on Manifest a couple of days ago, complete and utter chaos and even though I was in a team with three randos we actually worked together, plus people reviving as well. Got the outstanding performance for flag caps too. Noice.

It’s starting to find its feet. If you ignore the shit show of rage that is the 2042 sub Reddit as well as accept what the game is as opposed to what it is not, it’s a good game with plenty of those battlefield moments. There are still bugs, there are still balancing problems, there are still dubious design decisions, but there is fun to be had too. It will get better too that’s clear. I’m enjoying the levelling up and unlocking, naturally mostly; playing solo breakthrough felt hollow and unsatisfying. I also felt that I unlocked attachments without ever really learning the weapon itself. A sort of ‘all the gear and no idea’ moment. It is painfully slow to unlock pretty much essential additions though, so I understand why people do it. Guns do work, but something is off with aim assist on a controller I feel. My beloved Hovercraft can still be useful but it has been toned down. I just unlocked the MC5 Bolte which is the new bane of the infantryman’s existence so I’ll try that out for a while. Maps are big and you can end up with a lot of ground to cover but I think many people, as always, are in too much of a rush. Slow down, consider your surroundings, call in a vehicle, or even a ranger to guard you on your journey. Many matches you don’t even need to traverse the entire map anyway. You can spend an entire game working two or three points. I don’t think I’ll ever be convinced that specialists and the load out system was a good idea, but it seems people find two or three that fit their play style and go with it. Sundance is an utter pain though as you can never feel you know your surroundings. That character can get behind you in seconds.

>> Adjusted glass on Orbital to allow grenades to pass through windows instead of bouncing back at players
Ha, I had that happen to me and it completely stunned me! Massive list of fixes, the team at DICE have certainly been busy.
Nice to read that it's not just me that this has been clicking for. Whether it was the initial patch or people just finding their feet in-game at least people stuck with it.

Apparently they've removed these being visible in the character unlock screen, but purportedly tied to the pre-season weekly quests.

It’s weird I never saw them at all in my updated game. All I have seen are the posts on reddit. I’m sceptical they are even real, and if they are, I wonder if we will ever actually see them judging by the reaction. They said weekly rewards would be in this update and there are none, so I don’t know what’s going on.

Weekly challenges are actually in but only start/become active next week, I believe. That being said I'm having severe connection issues to the server after today's update, so haven't been able to get into the game yet.
Yeah, at first I thought these were a photoshop meme, but there appears to be a legit vid floating about on Youtube.

I also turned crossplay off recently but after reading about the PC master race having their horizontal mouse movement disabled I’m tempted to turn it back on again! 😂

Echoing a few posts above really, I think it’s pretty solid at the moment, especially on the ps5. It does need a lot of work but you’re getting battlefield warts and all with each game. I’m level 30 at the moment and don’t think I would have not put the time in if I wasn’t enjoying it to some degree. There are things I’m unsure of- like whether 128 players is a good thing, and some things that are just battlefield quirks that jymo post above refers too but I normally play a couple games of conquest a night and the time flies by.
I think there are legitimate complaints to be had but it does feel that some complaints are from people who just want to shit on the game and they take pleasure in doing so.

Yeah. I mean I'm closing in on level 60, and still enjoying playing for an hour or two each evening despite its many (many) foibles. There's definitely a solid foundation here, and today's patch notes look like another early step in the right direction (associated bugs aside). Still, to my mind, a lot of rather baffling design decisions, though; and it'll be interesting to see what gets changed as they go forward. I'm genuinely fascinated in seeing some proper, data-driven analysis on the specialist system to see what (if any) effects it is having on general squad/support play in the main drop-in modes (which are mostly populated by solo players).
And, of course, there is the fact that this is yet another example of a AAA title being released in a far from finished state. Now, that's obviously not just a problem with this title, more of an industry wide discussion needing to be had, and it'll obviously come out in due course how the pandemic affected development etc., but it doesn't necessarily reflect well on the current state of the purported cutting-edge end of the industry.
Those skins can fuck right off though. I know it sounds petty and something that can be ignored, but I can't deny that it's the sort of modern nonsense that really grates on me. I just don't want to be playing Battlefield with people running around in Santa capes (or Batman costumes, or time-limited Fortnite skins).
It's just ... inappropriate *shakes fist at cloud*

Looks like EA have brought in Vince Zampella and Marcus Lehto to work on Battlefield 2042. Seems like they're not fucking around haha. Committing to 2042 with new games in the universe and leveraging Portal mode.

Thankfully it looks like the Christmas skins are going to be locked to timed seasonal modes in Portal Maxed out the AK-42 last night as well. It's a beast with the Warhawk Compensator and Cobra grip. The grind for Sundance's T1 skin continues, though. Brutal, and even worse after the recent nerf to their tac nades.

Ha! You're maxing stuff out and I'm just dipping a toe at lev 14.
No wonder I get pummelled so badly in some games by folk with decent gear!
I managed to get the top squad last night, which was great. A bunch of randoms all playing the game as it should be and moving from flag to flag or sitting in defending when needed. T'was awesome fun and the best game i've had in this version so far.

Looks like EA have brought in Vince Zampella and Marcus Lehto to work on Battlefield 2042. Seems like they're not fucking around haha. Committing to 2042 with new games in the universe and leveraging Portal mode. It really is an amazing bit of news even if it remains somewhat troubling as to what the future of the BF franchise might be. A focus on a narrative etc. it’s the internal power play at EA that is fascinating for me. I have some experience of the atmosphere at a mega publisher like EA and the machinations of internal studios within such a organisation to grab control over franchises and have power generally within a publisher. DICE did it themselves with the proliferation of Frostbite across all (mostly) EA franchises and people like Patrick Söderlund moving into big jobs within EA itself. Are we seeing Zampella doing the same now to them? I said when the game released that Portal felt like a better product than the main game and that DICE would be vexed about that. I can imagine Zampella going to the board and upper management at EA saying, look I can turn this around for you, give me the green light, give me the control and we’ll fix this. Why wouldn’t EA believe the man who gave them Apex and Titanfall, coupled with an incredible CV, that he could do that. DICE need to watch themselves or they might end up just being an Engine or technical studio supporting other EA studios. Or maybe they will get some breathing room to try other stuff. Let’s not forget how great a studio they have been in the past. Believe me there is serious sweating and grumbling going on in those fancy meeting rooms. This story will run for some time and will have big repercussions for Battlefield and EA generally. I love it!
