So at the weekend I was panning to trade some stuff at CEX, some games (about 25) an unopened keyboard, some DVD's and a phone. Should get me a good way to bagging myself a PS4 Pro.
Anyway with a bag full of stuff and a phone to check will they do it there and then or do you leave it and come back in an hour or maybe the next day or what? I guess it depends how much stuff they have already to check through? Any pointers I should know in advance, are the prices they quote on their website the actual prices? Obviously the phone condition will be subjective.

Just remember that they pay by the pube, so make sure you have plenty over your stuff.

They needed a hour when I gave them a graphics card, not really used them otherwise.

Try sellling direct first, i.e. Ebay gumtree facebook etc... CeX should always be a last resort

I've only used CEX once. The games they'll go through while they make awkward conversation with you. The keyboard you'll probably have to open before they accept it and the phone you might have to leave with them to test (I traded a console though)
I also got a bank transfer, so no touching

Try sellling direct first, i.e. Ebay gumtree facebook etc... CeX should always be a last resort I get that from a purely monetary value point of view but I just can't be doing going through the pain of putting 25 odd games on Marketplace to gain another £1 or 3 for each game, and the keyboard will get me more than I've had it on for on Marketplace, I'm really after a quick buck frankly and I don't sell on ebay. The phone - well it's 5 years old and whilst fine in the day it's frankly now rubbish so I could never (morally) sell it on ebay/marketplace anyway) but if CEX deem it OK then (according to their website they'll take it) that's their call.

Phones are a 30 minute job if there's nothing else booked in for testing. If you're booking in a lot of hardware, they'll push you to come back hours later as it all stacks up.
They will also make you sign a receipt in which you agree that they are not liable to compensate you for any damage done to your products whilst being tested.
Just remember that training in that company is poor and some staff will have more knowledge about certain items than others. For example, its not uncommon for them to 'sniff test' graphics cards, rather than plug them in.

Oh, so prices change daily, but that will be reflected on the app. So check on day of book in. That and an A-grade phone has to be practically brand new. There can be no visual blemishes and all original cables and packaging will need to be present. Otherwise, it'll likely be a B grade.

So I duly popped into CEX over the weekend, they rejected the phone straightaway as apparently the battery had expanded through overcharging or whatever and was pushing the screen out (even I could see this), then 3 games were rejected as one was scratched to death, one had no cover so could not display an age restriction on the shelf and one was still scratched after he ran it through the disc cleaner thing. So ended up with £132 credit (I was hoping this would have been around £180) so had to put in about another £100 to get my Pro. So far it all seems to be running OK, whilst the HDMI cable supplied worked OK for non 4K pictures it does not support 4K (see my other post in the Home Theatre thread in Technology) so I might pop back to swap that but I suspect I could just end up with another generic one. The controller led colour seemed to go all manner of colours upon firing up the console and setting stuff up etc then settled on red suggesting some kind of issue there, though worked fine. But upon restarting the console that issue doesn’t seem to have repeated itself and the red light’s not come back on. Finally getting to enjoy TLOU2!

So I went down to my local CEX to sort out the copy of Red Dead 2, they sent instead of Red Dead 1. I’ve got my credit and postage back. Fine I guess. Anyway.. I decided to just check whether I should try my luck again, as there’s no copies locally. My local CEX has taken in that copy of Red Dead 2 as Red Dead 1… there’s no way someone has traded it in within the last hour. Fucking hell haha.

I used to work for CeX. Had that happen in my store a lot due to labelling errors when buying in stock. However, I reckon you’d be fine going for another copy. You’d be massively unlucky to get the same error twice.

This is actually hilarious. So, I decided against trying my luck with CEX again, for Red Dead Redemption 1. I checked Smyths, as they have it for £25, which is a nice £10 cheaper and I'll keep the credit for another day.
The delivery man arrives from lovely Yodel. He hands me a small package of Lego, and I look at the addresss... that's not for me. I shout back, and he looks flustered. He checks his beat up Yaris.. ah no Red Dead Redemption. He'll check with the depot. Will he fuck I thought. So, now I'm checking my tracking information, which says delivered. I have no game for the weekend.. which is actually two weekends in a row now for the same game. I have to complain to Smyths. Sigh.
Maybe.. Red Dead Redemption wasn't meant to be.

Which Lego set did you get?

I gave it back, as it was for a completely different address/person. I would have been more sympathetic if it was on our street. It seemed like a tiny Lego set. Hopefully he delivered it to the right person.

How in 2024 is RDR a hard commodity to come by?
