Have they actually upgraded the graphics in any way? I can't find a definitive answer, as some places mention AI upscaled textures, and others just talk about higher resolutions.
Space requirements for modern re-releases are often daft. Like some of the Sega emulator ones needing GB for something that used to be Kb, or newer versions of stuff like Quake needing Gb for what used to be Mb. It's annoying. Maybe it's all the new middleware, but also I guess there isn't such a need to optimise for space anymore.
Apparently it doesn't have crossplay, which would have been my main reason for buying it, and will probably mean very low player counts pretty soon. Shame.

Even simple applications like Messenger take up ridiculous amounts of space these days and I can't figure out why the current version is 200MB and the version from a few years ago was 20MB, yet functionality remains the same.
I think the attitude on the developer end is 'not my problem, delete something or buy a bigger hard drive.'

Was watching something on YouTube yesterday and Metal Gear Solid came up. I’m genuinely surprised they haven’t considered a full remake of that yet.

More Metal Gear remakes may already be in the works, Konami have always kept an eye on Capcom and if they see money being made, they want in. Hence Silent Hill 2 getting retooled along Resident Evil 2 remake lines, the entire Silent Hill series owes it's existence to Konami seeing Resident Evil's sales and trying to grab a slice of the pie.

They should just spruce up Twin Snakes and release it. Then, we can all agree they made the game way too easy, with the 'modern' controls.

Well MSG Delta as it's called is chronologically the first one, but it's also a testing ground. I believe a full remake is in the works I wonder if it will be like Delta which still has the same skeleton as the OG.

Where that franchise is concerned, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance would be my first choice for a remake/remaster. Perhaps Konami will do it after Delta and Master Collection Volume 2.

Well they recently patched in the ability to pause the game in the current Master Collection so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Pausing? What witchcraft is this?!
I'd also like a remake of Ryū ga Gotoku Kenzan!, which I'm indulging in a spot of wishful thinking - no idea how likely that is, though.

I didn't, but I thought it sold well enough to satisfy Sega.

I want a remake of Ikaruga. Yes, I am aware of the Hypergun Edition. I still want a remake. Don't touch the controls, just jazz up the visuals into a 4k kaleidoscopic bullet hell with a re-recorded bombastic orchestral.

Reddit linkA comparison between the upcoming Riven remake and the original. Thinking about all those Myst remakes and how they look nothing like the original, which makes sense because the modeling in Myst today would be as simple as they come. The fact that these screens look very close instead, just goes to show that Riven was too darn gorgeous for its time.

Although I don't play JRPGs anymore, I still have fond memories of the PS1 era Final Fantasies VIII and IX (not VII, never liked that one). So I would like to see how would they be in next-gen graphics just for the heck of it. Though I fear they would look cold and sterile . Just don't want them to change the stories, they were OK as is.

Considering what they've done to Final Fantasy VII, we should perhaps be thankful that they've been left relatively untouched. Unlike a lot of games discussed here, there are various versions of each game currently available.
I'll take somebody trying and mostly failing to slap lipstick on the crusty old graphics pig over what most 'remakes' have been doing these days.

And also the new article doesn't seem to contain any indication that any progress has been made on it. (it's a bit of a non-article tbh).
It got to the point where 3 years later RPS just eventually gave links do download it 'unofficially'. (Which I won't link here as I don't know the rules, and the links probably don't work after 7 years. )

Things might be different now, though. For one, Nightdive has become a much bigger player in the industry (they are still mostly niche, of course, but at least their name is well known at this point. Also, they have worked with WB in the meantime, for the Blood remaster. So at the very least, publishers might be a little more willing to hear them out now, compared to 10 years ago. We can only hope they give it another try, I guess, rather than a simple "gee, we'd sure like to do this".

I’d replay that! Hated the tower defense bits though.

As much as I would love a remastered version of Brutal Legend, I don't trust any announcement made today until they confirm it the following day.

Oh man, the Riven remake is out in two weeks. I can't believe it. I'm so used to Myst remakes, it seems like a dream to see Cyan remaking a different game.
Except it comes out on the same day as the Boltgun DLC. Oh man.

I’m a bit surprised by so many remakes coming in fast at the moment. We’re hardly currently short on games are we? Even though these are good games getting remakes I’ll be surprised if 90%+ of customers will just immediately think “not until a deep sale”…

I can’t believe Yooka Laylee is getting a remake already. I remember it didn’t review particularly well. Like not terribly, but not as well as the sequel. I’m suprised they aren’t just making a third one instead.
