Things I learned from a few more plays of this
-Don't fight the Shambler! This was usually good advice in the first game, but at least you got a good reward for the challenge. I tried it in this with a pretty inexperienced party, got two of them killed, and my reward was... 8 gold coins
-Don't fight bosses in general! It's not worth it! (though pretty soon you're going to have to kill at least one, if you want to finish a run)
-Relationships matter so, so, so very much. You're going to have a good time if all your people love each other. They'll give each other buffs, stress heals, regular heals, do random team-up attacks, defend each other in a pinch, and that's all on top of the actions you normally get them to do. It's fucking great!

I'm dipping back into this before 1.0 in a few weeks.
A lot has changed since the start of early access. Mostly for the better! There's still some interface annoyances, but overall it's looking like one of those "just one more go!" games. I like it a lot!
(but I still haven't successfully finished a run, the final boss is a real fucker)

Wonder if this will make it to switch. Never finished the first one. Failed on the last dungeon and after everyone getting wiped put didn't have the energy to get another bunch to send to slaughter

It's pretty unlikely imo, at least on the current Switch. But yeah, I'd kill for a portable version.

The basic gameplay loop is the same, but the progression system with unlocks has been completely overhauled. As has the relationship system. And my favourite little degenerate the Flagellant is back. PAIN IS RAPTURE |

Yeah, PC only AFAIK.
You'll probably like this one more if you found the first game too punishing. It's still punishing, but because everything is based around runs (think Slay the Spire) you never get set back too much. And you're always unlocking stuff.
