Probably going to that one myself. If I can work out how to get to Islington and back again. Saw Dvne last week, probably gonna see Wormrot in June. Been listening to this a lot lately:
One for the prog melodeath fans.

Not the biggest fan of hardcore, though there are a few exceptions like Zulu or Pest Control, and this would be another.
Has a slightly more sombre tone than a lot of hardcore, even kind of post-hardcore at times, and shades of Gojira at times (though maybe that's just because they're French).
Also love the medieval album cover art and trappings. Reminds me of Poison Ruïn, though they're very, very different sonically .

I'm more bummed out than anyone that the new Unleash the Archers album isn't doing it for me. Apex and Abyss I loved immediately and still do, but this is still trying after 2 attempts. Not to say it's all bad, its good and the talent is all there. But even so, it just feels pretty by the numbers power metal, no real distinctive riffs or drums even and overall not as heavy. Which is a weird thing to say about an album about a sentient AI finding its way in a post apocalyptic world. Still, there are some immediate good ones and overall opinion seems pretty split. I just wish I could see what other people love about it. This prob my favourite out of it

It's missing some oomph to say the least.
I thought the same but less so about abyss tbh.

Dirty, brutal, death/doom. Heavy but some sombre tones and a melancholic mood. Indigenous and native music trappings give a bit of flare.

Totally in the mood for some psychedelic sludgy doom today, so it's just as well Ufomammut have released a new album and it's great so far.
The opening riff on this track makes me do the bass face.

Ufomammut are great. Looking forward to checking out their new album later.
If you like doom with some psychedelic flourishes I'd also suggest Bismarck .

Listening to Gatecreeper right now.
My favourite Gatecreeper release so far was the previous An Unexpected Reality EP, that contained a few really short, quick grindcore tracks and a long, slow doom track. They do those speeds incredibly well.
Most of the new album is mid-paced melodeath. Think Amon Amarth, or maybe Clayman-era In Flames. Hint of At The Gates maybe.
And it is enjoyable. Some great riffs. Good tones. Very HM-2 pedal sounding (which just further adds to the Gothenburg-worship)
But I'm not as immediately blown away as I was with the afformentioned EP. They either need to speed up more or slow down more to be at their best.
I'll definitely give it a few more listens, and maybe it'll be a grower.

That sounds similar to the Necropanther EP that came out the other week. 3 of their normal thrashers then a doom-death jumpscare.

Red Rot (Experimental Death Metal) released another album a few days ago. "Borders of Mania".

The new Gatecreeper is totally enjoyable, catchy, good sounding death metal. But it's not super interesting.

I've been enjoying "A Paranormal Evening with the Moonflower Society" for the last few days. Wasn't overly enamoured with it when it first came out but it's grown on me a lot.

Probably going to get banned for posting this, but... anyone else like the new Falling in Reverse?

Falling in Reverse are not really my bag tbh.
That Gatecreeper album has grown on me. It's not very immediate but actually the riffs and leads are solid.
It's very melodeath though. I like to think of it as At The Gates-creeper.
(Yes I did come here to post that pun)

I don't mind Falling in Reverse, but then I'm a weirdo who'll listen to just about anything.

Never got into Falling in Reverse plus the front man is an egomaniac transphobe.

I quite dig that. It's not doing anything new but still pretty solid.
That said, because it's not doing anything new I could almost be listening to the last couple of albums.

Had the opportunity to listen to the new album by "Red Rot" a few times and "Overlord" remains my favourite for now.

It seems to be a really good time for post/atmospheric black metal just now, and I've been busy finding out about loads of great bands by basically listening to everything on the fortress festival line up. They've pulled an absolute blinder this year.

I keep saying "I'm not into hardcore" then hearing hardcore bands I quite like. Still not down with karate in the pit though. I'll draw the line at a 2-step thank you very much.

Some good late 90s metal/hardcore crossover seeing as we are going there and that I've always loved the space that resides between my two loves; punk/hardcore and metal. Best of both worlds, brutality of metal with the dancey moshiness and politically conscious diy spirit of hardcore.
Couple of tracks from some late 90s Belgium bands who used to exemplify this for me.

I'm going to Download this this week but I'm way out of the loop on new bands. Any must-sees on the lower bills?
I've had Urne and Callous Dao-boys recommended already. Hit me with the tips!

Had a quick look, not much for me on the big stages but in addition to the ones you mentioned (all on the smallest stage except Heriot).
Gel Celestial sanctuary Pest control Guilt trip Heriot
Good to see Machine Head getting a high billing after all these years but probably 20 years too late!
Going to see Mr Bungle in London on weds as well.
