I'll kick this off with:
But only because my cousin is the drummer and it's a banging tune.

Time to find out what the media embed options are like over here.
Bandcamp appears lacking, but ah well. Lets kick off with this:

Hah no, I wish. Just a random find on bandcamp by clicking on stuff with album art that looks cool.

Hah no, I wish. Just a random find on bandcamp by clicking on stuff with album art that looks cool. Was going to say, being incredibly modest. Good find! I've been listening to these guys recently regardeleshommestomber.bandcamp.com/album/ascensionQuite well known I think now but just in case no one has heard of them.

I'd not heard of them but they will be my listen for the afternoon- good to see this thread survive as it seems to have become my go-to for recommendations, cheers!

Bloodstock looks like it was wild and I want to listen to Priest, Orange Goblin and Green Lung with my top off just reading about it

Singer / guitarist is an acquaintance of mine, but his band have always been banging to be fair. Earlier stuff is more doomy and riffy, they've gone off on a proggy tangent with the last two. I approve.

Probably the first time I went to a festival and there was ALWAYS something good on - I didn't see a single shit band, never got bored. I even surprised myself by enjoying Cradle of Filth. Looks like there's two of this thread, is it the right one?

Another new maiden track then....
Think I like this one more. Shorter and a bit faster.

Another new Maiden track out.
Feels like I've heard it all before, to be honest. And wow the mix is awful. Bruce sounds like he is underwater.

I've only listened to it once and it sounds OK I guess, which is a shame as I don't want to feel indifferent about new Maiden material. Agree about the mix. Are they deliberately trying to sound flat and unexciting? I think Priest's Firepower showed what you can achieve with a better production, especially compared to the awful sound on Redeemer of Souls. I'd love Maiden to have a punchier but more spacious-sounding production; I think it would really help. 😎: I don't know which is most officialest of the Official Metal Appreciation Threads, can a mod merge them perhaps?

I'm getting brave new world vibes from the new track. Think I prefer The Writing on the Wall, but ai love that song now after 10 or so listens, have only listened to Stratego twice.

The bass player from High On Fire joining Mutoid Man makes them a real supergroup now. Cave In, Converge and HOF all in one three piece.
I hope Nick the old bassist is ok. He was a lot of fun on Two Minutes To Late Night and I think his brother died not long after he quit.

Oooo like the new iron maiden song. Wasn't too keen on the first single. It's much of a muchness but good to see them releasing something decent.
They could just sit on thier legacy songs. The fact they're still delivering decent material after all these years is quite impressive.

I don't really "get" Iron Maiden doing new material. I feel like they're just playing the same riff in every song.

Not a fan of the new Maiden. It sounds terrible like Bruce is underwater.

This is still just simultaneously haunting and soul scorching. I think it's the subtle melody in the synth overlaid over the pounding drums and scuzzy guitar. And those fucking inhuman screams. And then when it breaks into a perhaps a more standard mode it still sounds just utterly haunting.
I've liked and thoroughly enjoyed plenty of songs inside and outside of metal over the last decade but this is like scraping nails on the blackboard of my being, in a good way (apologies for the slightly overwrought description I'm pissed)

Anyone a fan of reaction videos? They can be cheesy as fuck (the facial expressions as they're listening, cringe) but I do love the feeling of shared appreciation and a different perspective, especially of the more niche stuff.
Key of Geebz on Cult of Luna - Three Bridges was fun, even if largely just an excuse to listen to one of the best metal songs of the last few years (who incidentally are one of my favourite bands and who I discovered through the #other# forum many years back).

I had a weird phase in lockdown where I'd get drunk and just watch reaction videos.
Some are kind of enjoyable, others are shit. The Adventures of TNT is pretty good for reactions, as he covers a wide range of metal and punk, as well as other stuff, and has some good fan suggestions of stuff no-one else has done.
But I only want to see reactions to bands I really like, and many of the bands I like aren't very well known, so I'd just end up spiralling into watching the same shit over and over.
I think I've watched every Mgla drum cam reaction out there a few times. Darkside is a fucking beast though. Or reactions to Baard Kolstard of Leprous's drumming. The Infant Annihilator Cuntcrusher drum cam is good for reactions too.
If we take reaction videos as a gauge on how well known something is, there's an alarming lack of Bolt Thrower reactions. There's like a handful.
Anyway, tl;dr - I've wasted far too many hours over the last year, very pissed, watching reaction videos instead.

Do the Foo Fighters count as metal? Dunno where else to post this. Anyway, here's a video of 11 year-old drumming sensation Nandi Bushell playing live on stage with the band in front of a packed crowd
Just about one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Imagine being that little kid. She absolutely smashed it!

On a Foos note, they've nailed the whole 'how to be aging rockers without embracing right wing shite/conspiracies about covid' with the Dee Gees thing. Just.... fuck it, we wanna make a tribute album of the last shit people would ever imagine and we wanna look FABULOUSLY WEIRD TOO
