Don't know what it is about the Foo Fighters but whenever they come up I feel compelled to say I think they're the most boring band in the world. Just cannot see the appeal, their popularity utterly baffles me. They're just the musical equivalent of a walk down to the fucking post office.
Sorry, I'm not normally like this and it's out of my system until next time someone mentioned them at least.
For the record, the little girl playing drums is heartwarming...

I don't want to disrespect anyone that lovels them but bro, I feel the same way! So many of my work colleagues love foof and play them loudly on our stereo but I find it so utterly boring. Like literally fall asleep boring, and I can listen to fucking Tool! I've really tried to get into it but I just can't man.
Anyway today I'll mostly be listening to Deftones, this album

I know what you mean about the Foo Fighters, not really a massive fan myself. Dave Grohl does strike me as one of the nicest guys in rock, though. More of a fan of his other stuff TBH, QotSA and Nirvana obvs

I imagine it's for the same people that would seek out seeing someone like royal blood live. Just non offensive, fairly easy listening with enough grunt to not be off putting.
They have a couple of great songs but alot of drab.
Sadly they don't do more stuff like the song "white limo"

I am conscious that a lot of people think they're as boring as I think the Foo Fighters are but all their albums are different, nearly all their songs have some kind of merit and there's a huge amount of variety in their output. Abe Cunningham is one of my favourite drummers in metal and also a very nice chap in real life. Also met Stef Carpenter and he seemed cool if a total space cadet (as evidenced by his mad flat earth nonsense of late). Personal favourite is Diamond Eyes

Singer / guitarist is an acquaintance of mine, but his band have always been banging to be fair. Earlier stuff is more doomy and riffy, they've gone off on a proggy tangent with the last two. I approve.
Correct marcp , I've known Al from The Hicks days, they deserve to be headlining some festivals in the years to come.

Deafheaven have basically all but dropped the black metal side of their blackened shoegaze style, so now it's pretty much "just" shoegaze with more muscular drumming.
And I like them more now, Infinite Granite night be the first album of theirs I really like. Although it's quite different some of the sonic textures remind me of Aereogramme.
I guess they don't really belong in the metal thread anymore. But still pretty good.

I like the first three Foos albums but was a teenager buying two of them at release so I guess I was the target market at the time. Everything after those three just feels like endlessly recycled instances of two or three songs repeated over and over.
They’re the definition of just fine and somehow thats translated into 20 years of goodwill making them one of the biggest bands in the world.
Although, imagine if they tried promoting an AIDS denialist again these days. Instant cancelling.

Saturday Night Wrist is one of my favourite Deftones albums even if the band sort of disowned it.

It does have one infamously bad, weird track on it. But quite a few good ones which more than make up for it.

Is that the one with all the bumsex? That was odd. That's the one. Proper wtf moment, just bizarre that it made the final cut, they've never done anything like it before or since.

Correct marcp , I've known Al from The Hicks days, they deserve to be headlining some festivals in the years to come. The Hicks were a great band. They played a gig with a local band my brother was in at the time, Sinnergod, which might be one of the drunkest nights I've ever had. Good times. Fully agree, Keloid deserve everything that might come their way and more. New one has gotten some amazing reviews, so fingers crossed. I don't mind the first two Foo's albums. First one in particular is a banger. Second has it's moments. great singles band. HUGE Deftones fan. Diamond Eyes is probably my fave, but I'm digging Ohms at the moment, especially the title track. Weirdly uplifting for a Deftones tune. SNW is.... inconsistent. Though marginally better than Gore. Great last time I saw them live as well (supporting Gore, Manchester Apollo 2017-ish?), they can be a bit inconsistent, but they were firing on all cylinders that night.

Damnation Festival expanding in 2022. Moving from Leeds University to 6,000 capacity BEC Arena in Manchester. Great news in my opinion. As good as Damnation is, navigating that university between bands could be an absolute nightmare, with some stages being well over capacity at certain times of the day.

Excellent news. Damnation has had some of the best bills in the country for years so very happy its getting bigger.
Not that I get to travel for gigs since having Baby Maybe.
Speaking of big gigs - Dream Theatre charging £80+ for arena tickets feels like overreach in both cost and capacity

Yeah, Belfast is on their tour schedule, and they don't strike me as a band that could fill the SSE Arena.

Good news on Damnation.
2 good sized metal festivals a year can only be a good thing!

I had VIP tickets and enjoyed the show with an unblocked view of the stage and decent sound, however regular tickets' floor area was packed like sardines, the A/C was almost non-existent there, sound was coming through in waves and of course the view to the stage was limited; surely it was very disappointing for a lot of fans, however that doesn't reflect on DT themselves, just the promoter... If there's one thing I miss during this pandemic, is attending a gig

Pallbearer and Converge are my picks so far but that is a strong first announcement.
I really liked Ministry back when Filth Pig was sleazing its way out and obviously going back to the earlier stuff but I’ve not kept up on anything new in a long time. I assume they’re either incredible live or an utter car crash now.
