Saying that, I'm liking this album even on the first play through!

The new Mastodon album is coming 29th October, titled Hushed and Grim. 15 tracks and the leaked artwork looks very somber for a Mastodon album.

I've managed to listen to Senjutsu once now and I think I like it. Will need another couple of plays and it does seem very similar to Book of Souls though. I wish they'd got someone else to do the mixing though. Bruce genuinely sounds like he's underwater for the whole thing which is awful. I know it's only been one play through, but I couldn't tell you a single chorus it memorable verse as I couldn't hear/understand him without really paying attention. 🙁

Not very clear. The first track is starting to grow on me now. All the rest I'm liking on the first/second run through though which is great.

I think there must be something wrong with my ears as I think the mixing is the best it's been in a while.
There's probably something wrong with my ears.

Looks like Khemmis are releasing a new single tomorrow. Prob one of my fav bands at the minute and worth checking out if you like your doom metal.

All the rest I'm liking on the first/second run through though which is great. Had another listen now and feeling the same. Liking most of it with only Darkest Hour and Death of the Celts standing out as being deathly dull.

I'm quite liking the new Andrew WK album. His most actually "metal" album (though it does take a few tangents into rock and pop) and I'm liking it a lot. Some tracks have strong Dio vibes, others Devin Townsend. And sounds like influences from all over the place too, bit of Queen here, some darkwave sounds here.
Only reall criticism I have is that the tracks don't always reach the climactic end they deserve, sometimes just building and then ending, but it's very solid.
And I think he plays *every* instrument on the album, which is pretty neat.

With 87mins of album real estate to fill, there'll be plenty of scope for a range of different intensities on the new album, I'd wager.

As long as Troy handles more vocals I’m happy

Interesting, it's stylistically close to Emperor of Sand to me IMO but with a bit more of the technical flavour of their Blood Mountain era and a bit less hooky than EoS.

Agree with this - it's got the old school techiness but retains the rock/catchiness of recent stuff. It's certainly got me more interested in the new album than I was before I heard it... Definitely interested to see where they go generally and across the other tracks. The new Khemmis single is great too, would love to see them do a proper tour over here - think they're playing Desertfest 2022 but there just aren't enough other bands I want to see on the bill to justify it for me.

Elder and Pallbearer are touring europe soon, a decent few UK dates including Brighton. I'll probably go.

I remember being a bit disappointed by Emperor of Sand, but I'm excited to check out a new album no matter what, Mastodon usually gives me something that I love.
Same with Khemmis. And Carcass!
Most exciting upcoming release for me is the new Melvins on oct. 15th. You never know what these guys will show up with, and I love it!

I recently gave "Once more round the sun" another go and I still don't like it, but "The Emperor of Sands" seemed fine. Should at the very least be an interesting album to listen to. Though it's admittedly not that hard to be more interesting than "Once more round the sun".
Oh, and another one I recently gave another spin. Still great.

There's a new Monolord album out too. Do I really need another Monolord album? Probably not but I quite like their doom offerings. Tbh most doom metal sounds pretty much the same, so for the most part the only main differences is branding And I still think Electric Wizard "completed" doom metal on Dopethrone,

Obviously being in touch with your feelings is a positive and bottling it all up can be bad and lead to all sorts of problems with men and masculinity but does Hetfield cry in every interview now?

How do you guys like your power metal? With layers of cheese? Beast In Black isn't my favourite power metal band but my word they know how to make catchy songs. www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXZK2PIL3pc

Ephel Duath: Still don't know anything that would really be comparable.

I know it's probably out of necessity and not a deliberate choice, but I somehow like how vocals on some Gojira tracks kind of fade into the background and seem just like another instrument.

I like this, Vindsval from Blut Aus Nord basically made an old school Black Metal album, inspired by the 90's Norwegian scene. Good bleak atmosphere. If I'm being honest I prefer this to the more Avant Garde stuff BAN does (though their last album was pretty great tbh)
