The secret of NIMH
I think I had the VHS of this when I was little, but hadn't watched it in centuries and remembered absolutely nothing of it. Given it's now on Prime, I watched it again.
There is a... darkness to it, that I still very much enjoyed. However, I must admit everything else is a bit of a shambles. Half of the story happens too quickly and so I never felt invested in whatever the rats wanted to do or not do. Many of the characters are the very opposite of memorable, except the crow who's memorable for all the wrong reasons: pretty much a Jar Jar Binks prototype, but even worse. The villain looks like he's only there because they needed a villain, and given the rest of the movie is relatively grounded, the big climax is most unsatisfying.
On the plus side at least, like i said, I did enjoy the dark, haunting look of the animation and more mature themes than usual, and the fact that the character design feels very realistic for a cartoon about talking animals. It's also quite short, and things do happen at a fast pace, so at least you never get bored. Still, that's not quite enough to save it.

Re: Secret of Nimh.
I remember this freaking me out when I was a kid, to the point where I wondered if it was even real, or just something I'd imagined in a dream. Watched it again with my kids last year and it was ok, but not half as weird or dark as I'd remembered. More of a standard Disney cartoon if anything. Talking of rewatching old movies, I watched Grease with the eldest daughter this afternoon. I was tapping my foot to some of the tunes (half of which are great, the other half forgettable), while slightly cringing about the fact that every line of dialogue is about sex. Academically, from the net and discussions here, I knew that that was the case, but it's a bit different watching it in person. I still can't believe I watched this so many times with my mum, and that we did the dances at our primary school show. Story is still almost nothing, with the added benefit of being very much about boys just wanting a hot girl who puts out, and girls just wanting a hot boy with a car. Performances are still great though, and there are a lot more jokes than I remembered, mainly because they're all sex related. Daughter thought it was rubbish though, boring and complained every time they started to sing. I think it's the first old 'classic' that has totally failed to catch their attention.

I hate Grease. I actually hate most musicals.
That is all.

I've just tolerated that aspect of Disney films because that's what they're about but live action movies don't get that pass.

Er... but that *is* what musicals are about. The clue is in the name!

To be more specific I excuse animation for having people just burst into song. I don't like it when movies set in real life do that. I find it goofy as fuck.

I hate Grease too. Mostly because my sister would play the soundtrack on a loop on long car journeys.
And it spawned that fucking Dunelm ad, too.

I quite like a good musical but the songs and story have to both be great for the vast majority. I like the main comic relief in Hamilton (The King) is the guy that was in David Fincher’s Manhunter.

He's also Kristoff in Frozen, so he kinda runs the gamut tone-wise.

While I'm not a huge fan of musicals there are some I do like, one in particular.

Oklahoma! is another one I struggle with. The petty back and forth between two lovers swallows up a mentally ill farmhand, and when he dies as a result everyone celebrates.

Occasionally like to optimistically try a Gérard Butler movie, but after Geostorm became the first movie to take me from laughter at how bad it was to genuine anger of wasting 2 hours of my life.. It's been a while.
This was surprisingly alright, unusually grounded with some believable characters. The slow build of dread early on I thought was really well done. I'm sure the budget helped keep everything ground level, but it's all the better for it.
Best thing he's done in ages.

The one where Gerrard Butler tries to kill Jamie Fox is probably his best one by far. One of the better family member killed so I'll turn into a pyscho and kill everyone films.
Outside of that and 300 he is pap.

I keep wanting to say Copland, but that's a Stallone movie I think. Turns out I'm not good with movie names.

Last LoveA drama about the relationship between an old guy living in Paris and the young woman he develops a connection with. This isn't my usual kind of thing, but I really liked the first 70% of it, and then the ending just sucks. It's kinda slow, but Michael Caine is great (as usual) and Clemence Posey is good too (Fleur from Harry Potter). They do such a good job with the characters and relationships for most of the movie, and then seemingly don't seem to know how to end it. So the ending is both sudden, dumb and unsatisfying. American Viewers be warned that I suspect Caine's US accent might be terrible. Quite why they didn't make his character British I have no idea.

Furiosa
While I'd question the wisdom of going to a 21.30 showing on a Sunday evening, and getting to bed at 2.00 (I'm old) this was just glorious. Maybe a tad too long, not that there was any part of it that wasn't enjoyable.
Three thoughts:
a) I may be in love with Anya Taylor-Joy. Pathetic. Then again, I may also be in love with George Miller, so.../shrugs/
b) Chris Hemsworth absolutely steals this. He is having so much fun, just a great performance.
c) It didn't seem to have a particularly strong opening at the box office. I'm hoping it's too early to tell but I'll be genuinely gutted if this doesn't at least break even. We need more not fewer batshit crazy brilliantly imaginative movies like this on the big screen.

I think I’m going to head to see Furiosa while it’s still playing.
Were there any subtitles? I’m assuming not.

YMMV, but I didn't find myself needing subtitles all that much. Aside from Hemsworth, it's not an especially talky movie anyway.

Blue Beetle (Sky)
More DC fluff. Like Shazam this one leans more towards a younger demographic. Unlike Shazam (1) I didn't really enjoy it despite that. The characters felt under-developed and cliched. There's the whacky uncle, the cynical sister, the grandma with the colourful past, it's all very predictable. Tonally it was a bit all over the place with the hero making a big deal about not being a killer while his family gleefully murder the baddies. I really should learn to leave this stuff alone.
