I’d give that to GOTG3 pretty much entirely because it’s the last of the ‘golden era’ movies. Despite when it came out, I still think of it as (the last) part of that infinity war phase.
It’s also good, which is a makes it a bit of a unicorn.

Aunt May is dead and nobody in the multiverse knows who Peter Parker is is pretty consequential It does reset Spider-Man back to the established, mundane status quo, though. Wiping out three movies worth of characterisation just so you can finally get to where Spider-Man is ‘supposed’ to be isn’t big or clever.

I bloody loved it. I know the old people on here are very much about the Raimi films only. Calm down grandad.

Although I haven't seen it yet. I just lost all care after End Game. Watched the Spidey after that but haven't seen a Marvel film since.
And I was day 1 at the cinema for pretty much all of them. End Game was just the perfect closure of an unbelievable feat pulling of a universe of films like that.
I know there's so much money involved and now D+, but they really should have taken a break.

Did I ever say how my ex-girlfriend gave me a massive bollocking for not calling her between me going into the cinema to see Spider-man 3 and coming out and turning my phone back on? I was like “yeah, I know, it was three fucking hours long!!!” and she was all like “The perfect alibi!!! YOU WERE FUCKING SOME SLUT!!!!”

Watched No Way Home on TV tonight as well, it's still a thoroughly fun time but two things continue to stand out about it for me.
1. The spellcasting scene really is 5 minutes of absolute fuckwittery by two seemingly hyper intelligent characters. Surely someone could have scripted a better way to engineer all of the multiverse shenanigans.
2. Garfield absolutely, positively steals the last hour of the film.
That is all.

I'd like to mix the Spidey's up, Holland is by far best but I'd like to see him in a film of Raimi's 2 quality. Think the 2 I've seen of his the villains haven't been great and that's my issue.

Started watching Shin Ultraman on Prime. Jeez the Japanese don't mess around, firing on all cylinders straight out the gate! It's got that schlocky 1950s vibe going on. Watch the first ten mins, it's hilarious.

I like No Way Home a lot but it is a bit gimmicky and fan-service heavy. As in, that’s mostly all it is, but then I’m quite close to one of the two demographics it was written for so of course I enjoyed the ride. I do think people got a but carried away at launch saying it was possibly the best MCU film but its almost certainly up there with GOTG3 as among the best two post-Endgame.

Rents No Way Home. Shows up on iPlayer one day later. Well that checks out. This really is the worst timeline!
[edit:] doesn't seem to be on iPlayer anyway. Life is good again.

Monolith 5/10 Australian Drama/Horror where people are "receiving" seemingly alien black bars. Metaphor for dark secrets something something.
Didn't grip me, can you tell?

Whiplash
An absolutely terrifyingly tense movie with a masterful performance from J. K. Simmons. The music is fantastic, the story is simple and gripping, the direction is great.
I absolutely love this movie. (4th time of watching)
10/10
Hot Fuzz
Watched this with our 13 year old last night. I think I’ve probably seen it too many times as it’s gone from hilarious to “that was fun” for me. He enjoyed it but not as much as SotD.
7/10

Wolf of Wall Street
For some reason I’ve put off watching this and… it was ok.
Basically it’s three hours of excess without the satirical nous of say something like American Pyscho/Network/King of comedy. It was there but the film seemed to, allow, whilst not endorsing it things to get crazier and crazier without any punch so to speak and I didn’t feel anything when it does try to say something. The last hour just kind of lost me.
It is funny in places and some of the performances are good but just a bit of a shrug of a movie.
3/5

Rebel moon part 1 (Netflix)
Well, that was a shame. It had some almost good elements, eg Antony Hopkins' robot, and some interesting lore/world building. And well, it's big budget sci fi, so a must see for me. But most of the rest was bad or mediocre.
The lead was having to do way much work - eg she was both the instrument of the empire, now out in hiding, and the reluctant hero, and then the rousing speech maker, etc. the farmer was then reduced to one basic action. It should have been the farmer rousing everybody, including the reluctant hero, into action and fighting back. Or other films would have had a child or something.
The slo-mo, oh the slo-mo. I'd been warned by the other reviews on here, but my goodness is it just pointless.
The music is decent, but never transcends, and is forgettable.
There is sooo much talking, with almost soap opera acting and shots of people watching stuff and frowning. Every body gets a go at a speech at least once.
Meh/10

Tenet (on the Beeb) - 7/10
Enjoyed this more than I expected, largely because I just treated it as a generic action movie and didn't try to think too much about the central premise other than thinking of it as handwavy time travel OK whatever mate, which I'm sure is exactly what Christopher Nolan wanted the audience to take away. Kenneth Branagh was a bloody awful piece of casting mind - seemed like his only Russian bad guy reference point was Teddy KGB.

The Equalizer 3 (SKY)
Old Man Denzel kicks butt in Italy this time. Quite slow to get to the actual butt kicking parts but was some nice bits visually beforehand
A decent end to the trilogy

Fury Road - 85/100 - 3rd viewing. 1st time I thought it was average, 2nd viewing I thought it brilliant, 3rd viewing I'm somewhere in between. It looks amazing, and the action scenes are fantastic. It's well paced and edited. The story is serviceable but nothing more. I'm glad they make films like this, and celebrate it for it's ambition. It's very good, but not quite up there with the best action films.
Furiosa - 75/100 - Arguably better acting than FR (ATJ is brilliant, Hemsworth is having a ball). One of the action scenes is outstanding. But somehow it felt the lesser of the two films. Perhaps on a rewatch I will re-evaluate, but whilst it was a lot of fun, it wasn't that great. It's also a little long - it doesn't ever get boring, but there's quite a bit of it that doesn't really add to the whole.

Mindhorn (iplayer)
Julian Barrett is an actor who was big in the 80s pulled back into his former detective role by a real life murderer.
If you like Alpha Papa or Hot Fuzz I think you’ll be into this. Its not as cinematic as they are but its hard to argue against it when Barrett is going scene for scene with Simon Farnaby and Steve Coogan. The whole whole cast is littered with great performances and cameos if you’re into post-SOTD British comedy films.
And its only 80 minutes long.

It's not subtle but hits the right notes for those of us who grew up with Bergerac etc.
