I think once you steal the Normandy you’re locked in. ME2 update: very happy to bump into the voice of Michael Dorn. Real shame he doesn’t have a bigger part but I guess they spent all their casting budget on getting Sheen to record a hundred hours of dialogue.

Just about to start Lair of the Shadow Broker. Only got that and then its off to collect the IFF device which I thought was a point of no return. Although I don’t have Legion yet and I’ve cleared the map of all the other companion and main quest missions (and all the N7s) so unless I’ve done something stupid the game must be longer than I remembered.

My memory of that “choose who dies” bit was not actually clear to me that I was choosing someone to die, just that someone did and I couldn’t have foreseen who. I’m not yet up to that bit on new playthrough, have too many games and hobbies running at once.

I like that at the end of the mission I did tonight that I got to hang about in my uniform instead of my armour. Maybe its the Trekkie in me talking but I think it’d be nice to have more in uniform sections rather than stomping about the Presidium in full armour and a rack full of assault weapons.
Maybe some more diplomatic or detective type missions where you only have a pistol.

Yeah. They made the whole casual outfits feature, then relegated it to the Normandy. I want to run around in my Walmart Fifth Element outfit!

I’ve never done a renegade playthrough. Maybe if I’m not all Mass Effected out at the end of Andromeda I might cone back around and do a ManShep dick run. Renegade really kicks off in the second one, where you get those interrupt actions that come up from time to time. The Renegade ones are fucking badass. Space dick for life!

Some of those I did even despite being a Paragon. Booting motherfuckers out of windows can’t be passed up.

That was a taser, wasn’t it? I feel like the big boot came after that, but in the same quest line.

I believe taser was in the Archangel, window in the Thane recruitment mission

What I remember of the Paragon/Renegade system it was pretty good cop/bad cop that you could make a case for either way in ME1 and ME3's Renegade options seemed like 'Yes, burn them all' as Shepherd cackles like the Emperor

Even the contextual prompts into ME2 are often like “shoot this guy before he shoots first” rather than burn down the orphanage.
Although, at the end of ME1 I always choose to hold the fleet back and I get the impression from everyone’s opinion of me in ME2 that that was what would be considered the renegade option. But come on Sovereign was right there!

Mass Effect 2 done
Absolutely magnificent. As much like watching a great sci-fi show as it was playing a great video game. All building to an epic conclusion worthy of the journey taken to get there.
I got the ‘best’ ending, as much for playing a very completionist playthrough as deliberately going for it. Only one assignment left unfinished and I even did all the N7 anomaly ones too.
Not sure how different it was in Legendary Edition compared to the original release beyond texture polish ups but some of those were spectacular. Thane in particular looked fantastic. Although same as with ME1 the human and Vollus NPCs were very noticeably ugly and dated looking, almost like they hadn’t been done at all.
Basically improves on ME1 in every area of the game. Although suddenly having to keep an eye on ammo took a tiny bit of getting used to and the new mission over screens felt like an odd choice to begin with but only enhanced the episodic feel once things got going.
ME3 in the morning and I’m not sure I remember it well enough to spoil it for myself so I’m going in almost cold. Bar the ending.

A few hours in to ME3 now (been to the Turian moon and Salarian base) and I’m impressed at how urgent the game makes the war effort seem. My journal is filling up with jobs and all of them feel like they need an immediate response, whereas in 2 I took my time planning out which mission felt like the most natural next “episode” to follow my previous mission.
Interesting that so many design choices from ME1 have returned, weapon mods most obviously. At this early stage it very much feels like a combination of 1 and 2.
Maybe its because I’m just facing cannon fodder so far enemies don’t feel as smart as in 2. In that they were strafing, flanking and using cover and here they’ve much more prone to suicidal head on charges.

Everyone complained about the ending, but to me, the conclusion of the biggest storylines in the game were the best ones. I won't say anymore.

Credits rolling on ME1.
That was great. I didn’t expect to love it as much as this. It’s showing it’s age in places, (namely the side content which, story wise is great, but gameplay wise is terrible) but the plot, characters and something I can’t quantify do a ton of heavy lifting.
I didn’t expect to be playing the Mass Effect trilogy (and Andromeda) in 2023 but I’m all in now.
On to 2 shortly, which is the only one I have actually played before.

I think I just opened up one of the ones you mean, if my half memory of it is correct Releasing the genophage cure

3 gave some stories a great conclusion but also messed up several.. Quarian/Geth, Rachni all the stories that finished via an email or killing off Emily Wong on the Mass Effect twitter page so they didn't have to explain her not being an option for ship reporter.
And off course the final mission and ending being lame as fuck.

Jumped straight into ME2. It's such a ridiculous jump in quality, completely nuts. I thought exactly the same and absolutely loved ME1. Only about 2hrs into ME2, going to try and get kids off to bed quick smart so I can sink a few hours in. One thing I may be missing - I can't crouch any more? It's my go to stance in most games as I get used to controls

ME3 is a lot more talky than my super hazey memory of it. Enjoying that. I’m pretty sure I straight up missed Thane and Kasumi altogether previously.

I remembered that Leviathan was important but hadn’t remember just how involved and story-driven a journey it was to get to the big bit. And its integrated so seemlessly into the base game.
Brilliant piece of work (although bs that it wasn’t part of the original game).
So far ME3 is exceeding my expectations.
