Are they really so out of ideas that they need to take inspiration from a videogame?
And if so, why isn't it Dark Forces 2?

They should make it Rouge Squadron as it was often called at the time, and bring a bit of drag glamour to the franchise. Maybe that's what Disney objected to?

It was a relief to hear the reject had been cancelled. I think Rogue Squadron is a great idea for a movie. However, Jenkins is objectively a dreadful director and there’s zero chance the movie wouldn’t have been the first Star Wars movie I switched off before the end.

Going from my experience with WW84 I feel like she tried to had writing input like she did with that film and looked how that turned out. I mean she fought to keep both the overlong pointless intro and the mall scene and one was objectively better than the other.

I assume there was an embedded tweet in the first post? My work blocks twitter, which leaves a lot of posts as confusingly cryptic or blank Using my amazing deductive reasoning, I deduce that Patty Jenkins is walking away from the Rogue Squadron movie? www.denofgeek.com/movies/star-wars-rogue-squadron-trouble-creative-differences/Marvel seems to have largely avoided this... not even close to 100%, but more than you'd expect. It's a shame, as I'd much prefer a bunch of mostly stand-alone star wars movies with different ideas and directorial styles. The 'fan' backlash to The Last Jedi seems to have killed off any Disney desire to do anything than cater to the 'fandom' though. Hence we get an emphasis on fan-service moments like cramming Luke into The Mandalorian or Hayden Christiansen coming back for Obi-Wan, rather than actually trying anything new. I've only seen one Jenkins movie, which was Wonder Woman 1, which I loved, so I can't say whether her walking away is good or bad. I wouldn't have been super interested in a Rogue Squadron movie. I'm very sad that the Rian Johnson trilogy doesn't seem to be going to happen though. Are they really so out of ideas that they need to take inspiration from a videogame? And if so, why isn't it Dark Forces 2? They already took inspiration from Dark Forces 1, and also from the other great Star Wars game - Tie Fighter. Though those both come from books originally, iirc. . And the DF1 bit ended up just being more fan-service. KotoR would be a logical setting for movies, because it'd allow them a lot more freedom. I thought they were doing something like that, but I've lost track...

After what happened to Solo I wouldn't trust any of these to be any cop. To axe directors know for fun good time movies, and to get in a boring cunt to make a by the numbers bore fest, just says they don't have a clue what they are doing.
Though axing the GOT guys was probably a smart enough move.

Didn't think Rouge Squadron was going to happen as soon as they announced it. It's the old creative differences thing. Did it really take them that long to watch WW84 and then decide she wasn't "good enough?".
Nobody gives a shit about the High Republic stuff. There was also nothing much on Disney+ day for the Star Wars stuff. Not even for behind the scenes or even talking to the cast of Ahsoka or Andor etc. No concept art . Nothing at all.

Maybe they should finally make that Shadows of the Empire movie, it was the only thing missing from that short-lived multimedia project.

They should just hand it over to Favreau and that other guy, they appear to know what makes good Star Wars and are able to work with a good mix of talent.

Agreed, The Mandalorian is the only decent SW thing worth watching outside of the OT. They just need to remember to lay off the uncanny valley CGI. It's shit and takes you completely out of the TV show/movie. I actually really like Favreau as a film-maker, and then I remember that Chef movie he made which made me want to punch him repeatedly in the bollocks.

I don't think anyone 5+ years ago would believe you if you had of said that Disney's idea of winning back fans would include getting Hayden Christiansen back. How far we have come.

It's so strange to get him back. He's completely the wrong size to wear the suit so I'm guessing it's for shots in the bacta or something?
Although there does be some kind of insane narrative forming on the internet now that the prequels were actually good.

I dread to think what kids today will say about Rise of Skywalker 15 years from now.

I've met someone who, with a straight face, told me that the prequels and Hayden Christensen's performance in them was good.

I get that he had a rotten script and a trash director, but he's still the worst actor of the last 25 years that I know of.

The prequels were shit but they had ideas, unlike 2 of the 3 new ones.

I would say that there is definitely potential for a great story arc across the prequel trilogy and that there are some good things (very little in Attack of the Clones). Anakin, both the writing for him and the performance, is definitely not one of those.
It is a weird, but the sequel trilogy really is objectively better in many ways than the prequels. Having said that, I can't see how you could change them to be considered a success without completely scrapping them and starting again. With the prequels you could shift a few bits of the overall arc around, have the scripts looked over by a script doctor and use a different director...
Okay, that is a lot to change, but the basic themes and character arcs can stay the same. I don't think you could say the same about the sequel trilogy, even if they are mostly much better made.
I'm saying this whilst also absolutely loving The Last Jedi though.
