And thats forgetting the people that have OLEDs, if you have proper blacks the OLEDS really come into their own. Half the time i just get poor shades of gray where an LCD would actually excel at and left grumbling at wasted purchase.

After several years of him hating it because I was forcing it on him my 7 year old boy finally loves Star Wars. We've been playing a bit of split screen Battlefront 2 and this week I finally got him to sit through the OT. We finished with Jedi today which he now thinks is the best film ever made mainly because of Vader's redemption at the end. He fucking loves Darth Vader.
He's absolutely shit a brick when he found out there's a trilogy about how Vader became evil. The wonder in his face while he imagined all the possibilities of what it will be like opened up so many old wounds. I'm thinking of smothering him in his sleep tonight.

Does he know about the tv shows exist as well? I wonder if there’s a fan edit off Obi Wan yet as that would be decent in a two hour film.

I’ve tried to convince myself I don’t like Star Wars anymore but my ass temps is absolutely cranked for the droid building workshop in Disneyland.

If you're not a parent you wouldn't understand. I'm extremely protective of him. And watching his face when he realised that little onion headed boy grew up to be Darth Vader would just be too much. I believe Chris Benoit went through the same thing.

Gotta say Decks, making light of Benoit isn't a great look.

I'm going for the pantomime bad guy of the forum from now on. Plus inferring that he murdered his family to protect them from watching the Phantom Menace is really quite clever when you think about it.

What I would like is a fictionalised Adam Curtis documentary about the fall of the Repiblic.

Mine have made it through Ep1 and Ep2 with the resilience that only kids have.
They declared them to both be 'ok, but not as good as the other ones' and then instantly forgot all about them as their minds refiled with Marvel Movies and Fortnite.
I'll subject them to Ep3 at some point, and then we'll just rewatch the original trilogy.
Kids are more resilient than you think.

To be fair kids don't have decades of misery to make them cynical arseholes. We should maybe take more guidance from the young ones.

The new Lego Star Wars special is a bit rubbish but I’m a very long way from the target audience.

Re: the prequels, we watched the entire saga during lockdown (kids aged about 6 and 8 at the time, I think) and they enjoyed everything more or less equally, despite me trying to ruin Rise of Skywalker for them.
Youngest daughter definitely had a soft spot for Han Solo though, even if she could never remember his name. "The funny one who died". But TBH the pair of them mostly seemed into the prequel stuff (fall of Anakin, baby Skywalkers, etc) or anything to do with the female characters.
My eldest daughter did draw the line at the Ewok movies though; or, rather, she watched the first one then totally noped out of watching the second. I fucking loved those films when I was a kid, dunno what she's on about.

I think I was probably 11, 14 and 16 when the prequels came out. Would have been 9 when the Special Editions came out, which were my first intro to Star Wars. Loved all of them at the time (although I'm sure I knew the originals were better).
Not sure how common that would have been for those my age, but my prequel love was probably because I was an idiot though and I didn't really watch many films. It wasn't until I was about 18 that I started watching a wider range and actually good films. I recall when I was about 19-20 after a night out myself and a few flatmates watched Revenge. I got about halfway through and suddenly realised that it was actually really shit.
Didn't watch the prequels again until recently seeing them through Disney+ during the pandemic. My young self was definitely an idiot to have liked them as much as I did, but they do have some redeeming elements. I also think that there was potential to have been excellent, if it had of gone through a few more rewrites and probably directed by someone else. Some of the ideas there are interesting, but just handled poorly. The sequel trilogy, by comparison, seems much more of a mess, even if they are individually better made films (I do love Last Jedi though and rate it as the best Star Wars since Empire).

I put Phantom Menace on for my boy yesterday and he lost interest pretty quickly. He also couldn't believe how rubbish the Roger Roger robots were. Me neither son, me neither.
It looks absolutely horrific in 4k incidentally. It's aged worse than Madonna.

Its similar with the OT. They look fine in 4K until the CGI meddling crops up. Sadly, the PT is 90% CGI.

Maybe they need to do what Babylon 5 planned and re-render all the cgi at a higher resolution. I'm sure Amigas are fast enough now.

I was 17 when The Phantom Menace came out, loved in then, still really like it now. I don't care. I know it's hokey, I know the pacing is weird and the acting is stiff, I know all the Anakin/Tatooine stuff is a bit rubbish. But it just fires something intensely Star Wars inside me. I absolutely adore the weirdness of the universe and all the Jedi bollocks, and the lightsaber fights are amazing. And that's baked into the whole prequel trilogy, and it's something that's been mostly absent from Star Wars ever since (apart from the animations) and I think that's a shame. Even Obi-Wan didn't do a lot of that. But to this day, whilst I can't say they're BETTER than the sequels, I'd much rather WATCH them if that makes sense. I just enjoy them more.
I think if Lucas had handed over the actual physical making of a sequel trilogy to other writers/directors - the way he did with Empire/Jedi back in the day - and we'd had a mix of his nutsy mythologising but, shall we say, more naturalistic directing, then we could have had a really interesting final trilogy of films, instead of what we got: one good film, one great film, and one bad film (take your pick which is which).
