Thought I'd have a look and see whats happening with the next gen version of FX.
So far I have been able to find out that:
It's launching on PC in spring next year (however they define that) Epic have PC exclusivity for a year. Conslol versions to follow later.
Portal and The Walking dead are currently the only licence fatalities.
None of your currently owned tables will transfer across. If you want to play any of the 97 remaining tables with the new engine and physics you're going to need to get your wallet out.
New tables made for FX will not receive a port to FX3.

We're on FX3, do you mean FX4 or whatever? Do we have a name yet?
Sucks about tables not transferring, but I guess we've had our tables transfer for free twice already, from Pinball FX to FX2, then FX2 to FX3.

I only play the real life table ports, but having to rebuy tables sucks and could be (and should be) the death of them.

I buy this every time and then barely play it. Needs more classic tables for me.

I think I have 94 tables on FX3. I’ll get the new one but I’ll keep 3 installed. So many peon scores still to beat!

My favourites are Monster Mash, Medeival Madness and No Good Gophers.

I had missed that Pinball Arcade had The Addams Family.

I pumped a lot of cash and hundred of hours into Pinball Arcade on Vita, but visiting it now is a mess - seasons are broken all over the place. This is where the digital model lets us down, with poor legacy planning - I always knew the Internet was a mistake...

When I win the lottery, Addams Family pinball table will be one of my first purchases.

This reminds me I have almost everything except for the wooden cabinet to build a virtual pinball machine in my office...was going to finally get it finished in 2020....
Was going to get the cabinet bits from a guy in Europe, but that's probably doubled in price now.

They look ace, having so many tables on hand would be great. No substitute for the real thing though.

I used to have a real table. ‘Triple Strike’ by Williams, made in 1975. It was so cool, all lit up in the dining room. The dings and clacks it would make. Would love a more modern table if I had the money and space.

Yeah, a real table would be a dream purchase for me too - though I would spend an age deciding which one to get and then regret it and want something else

Indiana Jones is available now. Before you all rush off though, I should warn you it's £12.50. For ONE table. Also, as far as I know, FX3 table purchases don't carry over to FX so you'll be buying it again soon.

This better not be a sign of things to come or my Pinball FX days are done.

Been catching up on some pricing news. All in $ because I'm too lazy to convert the prices.
You can't buy tables for cash, you have to purchase tickets which you can exchange for tables.
Tables will cost between 40 and 60 tickets depending on whether they're new/legacy/licenced/original, with the exception of Indiana Jones which you can only pay cash for.
If you don't fancy that bullshit system, you can always subscribe to their pinball pass. A free subscription will get you access to two tables that change daily or for $15 per month or $100 per year you can get unlimited access to most of their tables and all the game modes (currently everything except Indy).
There are 36 tables available at the moment and to purchase them all will set you back somewhere in the region $150 (not including Indy).
Guess I'll just have to make do with the 99 tables I already own on FX3.

Oh man that sounds like bullshit. I love Pinball FX and I'll pick up some tables, but I'm no way doing a subscription or buying tokens to play a finite number of times thing. Fuck that noise. Really disappointing from this developer, but I get they need to make some money due to giving away upgraded tables on the last couple of generations. Just charge us a price to own the tables FFS.

This is reminding me that I need to download Demon's Tilt, which was given free on Epic last week.

Once purchased with tickets they're yours forever, so that hasn't changed, it's just the bollocks way you have to get there. Also a bit hard to swallow is the £300ish that it's going to eventually cost to replace all the "legacy" tables as they're released.

Easier to swallow tho because like I said they gave us the previous generational upgraded tables for free. They can't keep doing that, it's unsustainable. And we can pick and choose which ones we want to upgrade. I'll have the Aliens ones, the MARS one, the Wolverine one, and I might have a look at the Indiana Jones ones, to be getting on with.

Finally got around to downloading this over the weekend (PS5).
The pricing is high, but the tables do play very well.
Spent most of my time on Creature From The Black Lagoon - a table I know very well as I own an original (which is currently in storage, where it's been for the last few years - one day I will have a big enough place to get it back home again).
Whilst every table physical plays slightly differently - from flipper and solenoid strength, polishing of the playfield, kinks in ramps and simply the table angle - this is easily the best digital version I have played.
Shots which are hard on the real table are hard here. The ramps are still likely to do you over if you don't make it all the way round. It all "feels" right.
Played mainly in the normal mode, but I do like the additional ways to play. 5 min challenge is a lot of fun and arcade mode (with slowdown) allows you to rack up some crazy scores.
Will likely buy a few more tables, but really only interested in the Williams ones (and Bally if they can add some)

Oh absolutely, and if I had invested in FX3 I would be pissed off with the prices.
I understand it's a new engine, and they need to recoup that cost somehow, but an upgrade path for loyal customers would have been expected.
Might have bought some tables way back on the 360 when they first started, but I invested more in Pinball Arcade so was disappointed when that went away.
I generally avoid anything with micro transactions, but in this instance I probably will buy a few tables I really want to play - not in any rush though so will hold out to see if they get reduced much in sales.
If they add the rumoured PSVR2 support, that might tempt me into more however.

So I have made my peace with pinball fx. I haven’t bought any legacy tables, I keep pinball fx3 for that, but I have bought some of the newer ones on FX. Now we have Pinball M which seems quite cool actually. I admit to being confused as to why it actually exists. It seems like a tacit agreement that Pinball FX was a mistake, but with three Zen studios pinball games installed I can play what I like.

Apparently because they didn't want to compromise the 'mature' titles to release on the Teen rated base game. Which sounds like bollocks.

Yeah it is bollocks - tried out the free Elder Gods table in Pinball M - horror themes but couldn't see anything remotely like it would make a parent worried out about their kids having access to it. If you were expecting F bombs, sex, drugs and ultraviolence...err no, it's PG horror if that.
Tried out the free table but not one that grabbed me particularly in the first hour. I might drop a fiver of unused PS credit on The Thing as I love the film and it looks decent. The themes of the other paid tables don't really appeal.
