Kinda of feels like we on the verge of another gamergate. It’s felt fairly quiet over the last few years but that crowd are a lot more visible again. Ubi should have told them to go fuck themselves, even if it’s isn’t the correct PR thing to do.

It's an interesting point.
Maybe I'm just less immersed in the online cultures surrounding my other hobbies, but none of them seem to carry the same amount of "anti-woke" baggage as gaming does.
Thank the Flying Spaghetti Monster that Font Geek exists.

At this point I honestly think it all traces back to Trump, somehow, as insane as it sounds to say it. He was responsible for weakening (among many other institutions) the pandemic prediction and response teams and programs that were already in place, with the pandemic/lockdowns screwing with people's heads for years afterward... And more importantly, even if we assume that the pandemic would have happened and progressed exactly the way it did even with those prevention and response measures intact, Trump himself began giving a massive new platform and signal boost to such bigotry and hatred from before he even took office, legitimising it as best he could, and not only in the US...

Might have to buy AC Shadows just out of principle.
Not full price though.

Yeah if i remember correctly it was in the run up to the first trump election that Steve Bannon, a part of the Trump staff, basically weaponised incels and boost all this anti woke nonsense

It is weird seeing people attack Ubisoft for pushing a fictional history. Which is every single AC game ever. Bunch of tourists that don't care about the game, don't care about the series, were never going to play it. Just grifting for views and money. The ones to say keep politics out of gaming, doing just that.

I've now taken user Baihu to be an official spokesperson for every game he provides information about.

How is the character creation module going? You know, the one added to let "concerned people" design their own white version of Yasuke (Naoe is just fine, maybe a bit chest-light)? /s

I remember hearing that his time involved with the games industry made him realise how easy it would be to weaponise certain groups of gamers, as well as use the same tactics to get other groups onboard. Supposedly he learnt a lot from Gamergate.

Tried to play Unity last night and while initially pretty, the crowd tech falls off at a fairly close distance leaving some N64 looking models all animating in unison.
I was initially impressed but the whole running through the streets trying to escape or trying to jump up/down to get involved in/out of combat and the janky combat itself just fucked me off massively to the point where I uninstalled it. Nope! This is probably why I enjoyed (using the term loosely) origins/odyssey because they traded a lot of the built up vertical city based environments with more horizontal fields/hills with the odd tall buildings.

I think a lot of modern games are a little too flat for my liking, Odyssey and Valhalla might be worst for it. But it's also down to the parkour not feeling as good as previous games even, feels a little too stilted for my liking. There's no nice flow between animations, you can almost tell exactly when one starts and ends.

The parkour was ok but it was the auto-latching or game logic assuming I wanted to jump from a building on one side of the street to the other and not jump to the ground for a fight. Nothing more annoying that your momentum disappearing and then having to slow drop backwards down to the ground while being shot at.

Also that it does not work on some areas. And that in tomb raider you could do a wall jump. Not here so still get annoyed that he can't grab certain ledge.

Nice to see them giving some love to the older titles, but just do Black Flag already FFS!!!
Whatever happened to their CoD style portal that you'd run to play all AC games?

I believe it was leaked recently. It's in active development currently, the launcher that is. I also believe a remake of Black Flag is being made by Ubisoft Singapore.

I vaguely remember buying Syndicate. And I think I dropped it because of the awful framerate. I might give it a whirl, as its on PS Plus.

Syndicate is a genuine surprise to me. The setting is fantastic. I still would prefer the combat to be a bit tighter, but there’s been some great set pieces already.

Syndicate is one of my fave AC's. Loved the setting, got totally wrapped up in the story, not too big, not too small, grapple hook was properly decent as a traversal tool as well.
