Why does the coverage have the players nationality denoted by a flag next to their name? That's new. That's unnecessary. That's ugly.

For years I've been annoyed by how important the nationality of a player has been to most of the established commentators.
Dennis Taylor can not go 5 minutes without mentioning it.

This young Chinese player is the nicest lad you'd ever wish to meet, such a character

Just found out that Wilson beat Ronnie this afternoon! He's got to be favourite to win now.

Absolutely stunning quality of play in this Wilson/Brecel semi final. I'd be happy for either player to win, although I think Wilson has the edge under pressure, even though Brecel has the better stats in the match so far

Can't wait to see the highlights. Brecel on fire. After recently joining the team at my local club. I've come to realise how snooker does favour the older gent. Clear thinking at a snooker table seems like and impossibility for someone like me and experience and mentality plays such a big role in the game.

Brecel playing great and now Zhao playing incredible. Zhao might just be a new favourite.

The final might be a classic if they can both play like that again. I haven't seen either player play before, how on earth are they both ranked so low if they can play like that? Is it a concentration issue? Confidence?

Don't know about Zhao but with Brecel he had a similar reputation to Jack Lisowski, brimming with natural talent but missed easy shots when trying to close out frames. Seems he's found a way to drop that from his game.

Zhao looking like the new Stephen Hendry. We'll see if that actually is the case or if this is one of those moments that struggle to be repeated.

Although him saying to the crowd how it's a super spreader event and then going on to say "let's not have any more lockdowns" made for uncomfortable viewing

So the Masters is on, although you wouldn't know it if you looked at the TV listings.
Main point of interest is there's a banner that makes it look like the snooker players are peeping over the table at certain angles.

Semi related, caught some three cushion billiards the other day. Fascinating. Polite applause after every shot, seemed the aristocrats choice of spectator sport.

Oh, right you're all on that bandwagon. Great. Never forgive never forget anything. Totally wasn't a stick up by that infallible News of the World. I'll stay out of this thread from now on then.

I find the vitriol towards him a bit extreme. There's always a slight nagging doubt in the back of my mind about him, but I'm not convinced he actually did anything wrong, and if he did then there isn't anything suspicious about how he plays now. He always seems to come across like a nice bloke when interviewed too.

Oh, right you're all on that bandwagon. Great. Never forgive never forget anything. To be fair, that's how it works these days. Vitriol, shaming and hatred for any and all indiscretions with no possibility or forgiveness or redemption. Glad I have no part in society really.

Jesus. He was world no1 taking bungs for losing frames. Betraying the sport that made him rich and famous. Cheating the public, cheating the fans paying to support him and watch him play the game he has a god given talent for. He is a total disgrace. The "it was a long time again let it go" stuff is unreal to be honest. Forgive and Forget that? No chance. It is fuck all to do with the paper that outed him for it either.

He of course also tried to bet on himself losing by calling Ladbrokes from his dressing room during a world final interval, nothing to do with the NOTW.

I've never heard that accusation, only the NOTW one. Do you have a link?

Also worth remembering his flimsy little ban was a slap on the wrist compared to guys like Quinten Hann and Stephen Lee for the same sort of thing. His status as world no.1 gave us example No.5291 of 'Rules for thee and not for me' in modern society.

They got done for different things. He didn't tell them about an approach to throw a match, whereas they got caught actually match fixing. Obviously both are bad, and the discussion might have led to him match fixing eventually, but they're clearly different a different severity.
I also don't trust how NOTW portrayed the video, apparently the judge in the case said the unedited video made it look a lot less dodgy, but I don't think that was ever released. Tabloids are scum, especially NOTW, so i expect there's more nuance to it that the footage they released suggested.
There's too much doubt about what he did for me to hate him, but enough for me to find it hard to support him.
