Any reasonable doubt for me in the video went when he pondered how he was going to absorb the money without being caught. If you are just agreeing to something under duress, I simply don't believe you'd start being so calculating about the minutiae of the deal.

They got done for different things. He didn't tell them about an approach to throw a match, whereas they got caught actually match fixing. Obviously both are bad, and the discussion might have led to him match fixing eventually, but they're clearly different a different severity. I also don't trust how NOTW portrayed the video, apparently the judge in the case said the unedited video made it look a lot less dodgy, but I don't think that was ever released. Tabloids are scum, especially NOTW, so i expect there's more nuance to it that the footage they released suggested. There's too much doubt about what he did for me to hate him, but enough for me to find it hard to support him. Well he didn't get a chance to fix the match, because the newspaper ran the story before the match took place. What is clear is that he intended to, and was taking pains to work out how to flush the money through his house in Spain i believe it was to hide it. I don't think him getting outed early before the match gets fixed is different severity at all. Possibly more serious was the fact he was World no1 and very popular figure, creating (and winning) huge sums of money from the game while at the same time going on the take. The other two were not at that level, and it put the entire integrity of the sport in question. If there was something in the footage that would have made it all a lot less dodgy, I assume Higgins and his team, alongside WPBSA, would have requested that gets put out there due to how bad things looked that he got not even a slap on the wrist, but it didn't happen.

I heard similar anecdotal stuff about Higgins too. But also believe that quite a few of that generation are/were degenerate gambler and that the game revolved around the stuff. I mean not to take away from the thread but I don't think as the public get the half of what sort of gambling and fixing occurs in sport. But given the size of the market hearing lots of anecdotal stuff paints a pretty black picture. Anyway, surprised Selby has crumbled so badly. It was never a part of his game. Can't believe how much Hawk has turned his career around in the last few years. As an aside he did hear rumours that Selby's lack of form came with him getting caught being unfaithful to his wife. But we'll never know I guess.

Just watched Neil Robertson get a 130 clearance! I don't watch a lot of snooker but the there's some been some obscene shots.
Going to have to watch the semi's.

so Worlds start today, anyone watching/interested. I think the semis will have 4 of these 6: Robertson Wilson Trump Allen Lisowsky McGill ROS to go out in round 1 or 2, probably losing the final frame, which he seems to like doing in finals a great deal! Selby out in r1 or r2 As for champion...Robertson or Wilson. I will be here for more top tier punditry over the course of the championship

Robertson has terrible form for the worlds, he always goes in as a favourite but then peters out midway.

Yeah he always does well, the best snooker ever some say, a tournament or two before the worlds and every time it makes loads of pundits say things like "it's his to lose" and then he just never shows up and people like Bingham just breeze past him.

Love it when the white goes down too quickly for Virgo to splutter his catchphrase 😁

Seen a few players already unwilling to concede and just force a few snookers to throw off the opponent's rhythm. The Thai lad did it yesterday against Higgins, who eventually won but looked flustered for a bit.

I find it frustrating that I can't catch up whole sessions on Iplayer. They only seem to have what's broadcast on TV, i.e. it ends when they tell you to switch to the red button or the BBC Sports app/website. AFAICT the rest of these sessions are not anywhere.
I would really like to see the end of Ding vs Wilson.

I am on Zhao Xintong at a silly 14-1 at the start of the tourn. If he gets into rhythm and plays without fear he can be very hard to beat.

I swear I've just seen Michael Gove in the audience, but then there's no way anyone can watch a full snooker session on ten lines of cocaine.

147 from Robbo! Let's see if it's the kiss of death like it has been the last few times a 147 has been achieved at the crucible.

I saw Robertson do a 147 live at the UK championship final. The only thing is that I'd taken out my ear piece for that frame so I didn't clock that it was on until very near the end. Wish I'd suffered through the ear ache for just one more frame!

The Trump McGill match is cracking. In the right light and drom the right angle, McGill looks a bit like Jasper Carrott.

Can't play it for shit (although I did once play a frame against the lead singer of Shed Seven - Rick Whittier I think he was called in a club in York.) Lost horribly.
Had this on in the background on days I work from home. I haven't heard Dennis Taylor at all. Has he retired or worse? I always find his obsession with a player's nationality hilarious.

Higgins/Lisowski going the distance. I'm a stealth Lisowski fan after being impressed with him in last year's(?) German Masters, but he's developed a knack for being an almost man - so many runner ups!

Gloves needs to be quicker, he took an age putting that pink on the spot.
Ruined the rhythm for Lisowski.
