Loved Daggerfall back in the days, but its "combat" was horrible even back then. Today I find it just unplayable. Morrowind and Oblivion never clicked with me, so I abandoned them early on. Skyrim was a great improvement in my book, but that may be partially because I love the setting.
It has a ton of issues, but still I find it enjoyable to this day, after over 1000 hours of playtime. Can't say the same about Fallout 4, Witcher 3, or Outer Worlds which I'm currently playing. Despite its issues, Skyrim still is my #1 RPG.

The only thing Morrowind really needs is dynamic loading instead of the relatively small level chunks. Otherwise it's still great in my opinion.

For Skyrim, the overall story and main dialogue I’d agree are pretty generic fantasy stuff, but some of the books you can pick up are great, and some side missions tend to be more storytelling than main quests. There’s a ton of interesting lore and well written short stories buried away, especially regarding the build up to the civil war.

Hah, I just found OpenMW, which does dynamic loading of Morrowind's map in the background, and so I reinstalled Morrowind and having a blast again!

Skyrim was also great but it never had the same wow factor as Oblivion for me. The sewer reveal can only have that jaw dropping impact once.
Skyrim certainly had a far better map and main quest line, but even in 2011 aspects of the game engine appeared very dated. It just felt like more of the same after Oblivion and Fallout 3 had established the formula.
