Immortals of Aveum
Some good moments and the gameplay is fine but it goes on longer than it needs to and the writing is a bit all over the place and full of Marvel style comedy. Looks nice enough but the world is pretty empty. Difficulty spike towards the end cam be a bit much at times
3/5

My Gears series playthrough continues.
Gears of War Judgement. Hmmmmmm. 6/10 (that's generous).
This one I didn't really care for much. It was just a series of areas, one after the after which you complete and get a score at the end of each area. It felt really disjointed.
Enemy AI didn't seem that great either. I was playing on Hardcore and didn't need to use cover, I just ran about like Rambo. Enemy placement didn't make much sense, it's clear they just tried to throw as much at you as possible.
Only saving grace was the Aftermath campaign included with it, but at only 1hr long it was all over before it started.
Anyway, glad that's over. I'll never revisit this one.
Gears of War 4 next. Another one I cannot remember much about, so looking forward to it.

All I remember about GOW4 is that I was really bored throughout. I don't remember anything else.
Probably not a good sign.

I played the first couple of chapters last night. Generally I had really good fun with it, it is certainly a looker.
I remember when I first played it though I was dissapointed that you are just fighting robots for quite some time. However, it didn't seem to bother me so much this time, perhaps because I was expecting it. I actually found it quite fun, the gunplay is as good as ever and there are some great set pieces and spectacle.
The Coalition are definitely very good at creating stunning games and excellent gameplay. I guess for some people though the characters in this one and the story just didn't hit home with them. I will score it at the end, still a long way to go.

New Tales From Borderlands
Ep 1-3: ok the settings, characters (borderline too annoying at times) and puerile humour actually for the most part work ok. Graphics, voice acting and production quality ace! Ep 4-5: wtf falls off a cliff almost entirely imo with major pacing issues and at times boring padding
Overall… 5.5/10

Thank Goodness You’re Here
An absolutely joy. Light on gameplay but one of the funniest games I’ve ever played. Its not often I want to jump straight back in and clear up all the trophies but if there are more gags to find I want them.
Prodeus
The baddies from Doom and the gameplay of Quake 2. Satisfyingly crunchy weapons and I like how it mixes up the challenge but introducing the alternative faction. A lot of fun.
Pentiment
One of those point and clicks that makes you actually consider your choices thanks to the clock mechanic meaning your options really are limited at times. It looks gorgeous, there are some interesting and unique characters, the world building is really well done. Maybe a bit of a slow burn for some players but a really nice take on the interactive story (as oppose to obscure puzzles) style of adventure game.

Trine 4
Never played Trine 3 but watched total biscuit review (as it was the first result on YT) and the third game looked shit, they really fucked up with that but the devs actually listened to gamers and didn't throw their toys out of the pram (as TB review was not the only review to say how T3 was massive mistake)
Trine 4 is actually really good, getting rid of the crap 3d world and going back to a 2.5D and also the puzzles can be completed in multiple ways. The puzzles are quite fun, it feels good to complete them. It seems MP mode is too easy if you can have more players and same characters as the puzzles don't change. Selecting items with left stick can be a little sluggish. Worst thing is the end boss, its really crap and feels like its from another game, its just damage sponge. I really don't get how game devs thought this is the best way to end the game, its not even puzzle based. The wizard is almost useless in the fight. Maybe some dev slapped it together in a couple of hours and went for deep fried pizza?
It was "free" on Games with gold from a while back. Hopefully T5 will be on gamepass
8/10

Gears of War 4
Been a long time since I played this one so couldn't remember much.
Thoroughly enjoyed this one, more than I did as far as I can remember the first time I played it. I was more invested in the story and characters this time, I think it helped playing the GOW games back to back so I could remember all that happened before and got the references to the previous games.
It's quite the spectacle, The Coalition are quite the talented bunch. I played on Series X and was constantly impressed with the visuals and the crazy shit happening on screen. I loved the wind flares, looked awesome on my OLED in HDR. Watching the wind take the bodies after you killed them and other debris and objects flying everywhere.
The first two chapters you are just shooting mechs and it nearly overstayed it's welcome, but luckily the enemy type changed after this.
Gunplay felt the best it's ever been, I don't think there is a better feeling cover shooter in all of gaming.
I give this one 8/10.
Gears 5 next. Really remember nothing about that one except riding around on a sledge thing.

The end level from Trine 1 was like something out of a totally different game as well. I don't remember how Trine 2 ended tho.

Dungeons of hinterberg.
Ok. It was a bit bland, but also nice enough. It's not setting any genres on fire, but was gentle, charming and entertaining.
Never going to play through it again, but would certainly be interested in any future games.

I know it is a diff genre but it is a excellent Gears experience 👍

I actually bought Hivebusters this morning so will play that after the Gears 5 campaign. I'm nearing the end of Act 2 now I think. Never played Hivebusters before so looking forward to it. I doubt I will play Tactics. It's not really my type of game, although it does look impressive.

Lamentum
Was free on Games with gold a while back and it looked good in terms of story and atmosphere. Bit 2.5D res evil in style of puzzles and back tracking in RE1, shades of silent hill horror and lovecraftian horror, real fucked up eldritch body horror creatures. But the combat is terrible, its really awful, most of the game you need to use melee to save bullets, bullets are rare and you need to save some for certain bosses. If you are mad enough to play this again, you know where to can use bullets on standard monsters. It has retro pixel art and animation and the hit boxes on you are awful, its like the pixel art makes it shit for combat. At one point you need to run past this retracting walls and the spiked area can kill you and got killed despite now where near it and same for the underground bit with giant worm creature and got stuck on the wall and it killed me. The devs making it look retro actually harms the game as melee combat is not fun and running past creatures slowly drains your health The end boss was bad, you to run around killing creatures that drop down in random order each time you play and there is holes in the floor and fatty bastard boss as cheap AOE attack.
But the game does atmosphere and horror so well, you end up playing for that and I liked the story of Victor trying to save his wife (more shades of SH2) It was made by 2 people it seems and if they could of fixed the very rough edges then it would be hidden gem type game as there is something good there but the devs seemed to think this was acceptable
6/10

I'm not really into turn based shizz, but by god it nails the Gears world and atmosphere so well. It's also set early after E-day, so is obvs a miiilliion times better than the red v blue horror of GoW:J & robot-fests of 4 & probably 5 (although i kind of forgive 5 for being a bit more gears-y, despite the sled nonsense). Tight corridor based grub-based killing only going forward please.

On topic, I started Fallout 76 yesterday.
It seems ok so far. I already stayed up later than I should have last night, so it must be scratching the wasteland roaming itch a bit.
Whoops, wrong thread. It will be a while before I complete this I would think, if that's even possible?

Ages ago I played Gears Tactics, starts off great but later on its heavy grind of forced side missions to progress and the last boss was never fixed, its cheap, broken shit show

I replayed it a few months back to finally go through all the jacked content and still enjoyed it, I've even done a few veteran missions afterwards too.
I definitely didn't mind the side missions as it's part of it and generally gives you some better loot to kit your peeps out with. I guess everyone has a different tolerance.

Mass Effect : Andromeda
Powered through the finale, despite the late hour. Enjoyed it for the pennies it cost in the last sale, at least Vetra and Drack were likable, and some of the ending panoramas were stunning. Needed a straightforward RPG, and ignored the majority of the padding tasks, concentrating on crew and story missions
But menus. Menus, menus, menus and a lot of to and fro for the simplest things. Balanced out by my brother looking like a reject Derek Smalls.

Straightforward ? Shoot small Remnant, shoot head of Architect, sit by control consoles when bar appears. Was that mission an issue back in the day ?

I played the game in 2020-2021. so not sure what happened back in the day. but I found the last mission to be really fun. so much better than most of the game.

Yeah, we'll say it was miles better than the ME3 finale, great cinematics, some truly jaw-dropping vistas, and I think I was hitting the screenshot button a bit too much.
I remember all the fuss about the "forced" MP stuff, but never even touched it myself, with no issues level-wise. Some fun to be had if you ventured into the different weapon/armour branches I'm sure, but I was boring and stuck to the N7 stuff with a few alterations.
A good solid 60hrs, and certainly had enough of a ME vibe for me.

Returnal
Brilliantly frustrating is how I would describe it. The second act nearly haf me rage quitting several times. Thankfully they were kind on the last boss because I wasn't doing that run again.
Glad I finished it and the core gameplay was great fun.

I liked Andromeda a lot when I played it. I said at the time that it felt like a tv series just living in that universe compared to the Shepherd trilogy being like a blockbuster movie franchise.
I really took my time and did pretty much any sidequest that had any character or story moments of their own and ignored the clear x number of camps or find five of thing type ones. Those were both especially egregious with the camps respawning each time you reloaded the map and the items for scavenger hunts being randomly distributed, so there was zero satisfaction or point to either.

Alan wake 2 inc Night Springs dlcConsole: Series X Time: 40 hours approx. Skill: Story Cheveo: 64/78 930 gamer score Tricky one this, there were lots I really enjoyed but a good amount I really did not! my main frustrations where around not really knowing where I needed to go/how to get there or what I should be doing next and not fully understanding how to use the scene changing mechanic for Alan, at least not for a long while. I did work it out in the end of course and the game became more enjoyable due to this. As for Saga I enjoyed her arc (I did think it peculiar when she says the thing about "another white asshole ?" seemed out of place but ? once I got used to her mind place I did enjoy this. Side characters where all great and of course the Musical section was absolute genius. Some wonderful environments and I ended up using the photo mode a great deal. Story was pretty good although it may have lost a little impact as I played the game over 2 months The 3 dlc vignettes were ok, the stand out for me was the biggest fan one. I am looking forward to the next dlc. I think it is better than the first game and look forward to the next expansion. 7/10

I also got quite a bit lost in AW2 at times. The game isn't very good at signposting where to go. I actually missed a clue in a prison cell later in the game and i had no idea what to do, the game didn't tell me and it didn't point me in the right direction at all. In the end I had to resort to a guide.
I plan on playing it all again but once both the dlcs have been released.

So I have just finished Gears 5 and the Hivebusters DLC. So that concludes my whole Gears series playthrough (excluding Tactics).
Gears 5 is better than I rememberd 8/10.
I thought GOW4 was a spectacle but my God, Gears 5 is stunning. Really showed off the HDR on my new OLED TV, particle effects everywhere and it looked amazing. I've said it before, but The Coalition are a really talented bunch, the game engine didn't even break a sweat on the Series X.
The skiff sections I actually enjoyed this time. These sections aren't really open world at all and there isn't a lot of side missions to get distracted by. Overall better than I remembered.
Hivebusters dlc was crazy and fun. They go all out on the craziness and I enjoyed it a lot.
Playing through this series again has got me super excited for the next Gears game. I have faith in The Coalition to deliver an amazing game. I don't think they get the credit they deserve, probably because their characters are 'big and dumb' and while the stories are good, are not on the same level as 'Last of Us'.
Glad i decided to run through them all again and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Second completion of the day! COD WWII campaign Console: PS5/ps4 Time: 10 hours approx. Skill: Recruit
One of my favourite COD campaigns, not that I have played all of them. The atmosphere and setting are excellent and the mission variety is also very good. Still suffers the issue of bullet sponge enemies (even on low skill level) and respawning enemies until you reach the next checkpoint, but this was not a big problem. I will not touch mp as I am awful at it!
8/10 based purely on campaign.
