I'm not too fussed about 'minimal' gameplay if the game shines in other areas such as storytelling, characters, audio etc. Games like Gone Home and Edith Finch were fantastic and had 'less' gameplay than The Order.
The Order's problem (for me) was that it didn't do anything well bar looking nice.

Again though, I'd actually rather a more focused cinematic experience in under ten hours these days as opposed to a fifty hour open world collect a thon that also requires me to have seventeen fingers on each hand and remember a characters location who I spoke to twenrty hours ago which in real time was over a year back. The length of a game seems to be one of the main metrics to how worth buying/playing it is these days, with 50+ hours being a bare minimum. Rarely is it ever achieved without padding, or an open world, which is padding. Like most things, people are obsessed with only 'content' now, quality doesn't matter. 'Content creator' is even an occupation
This is an old man rant, isn't it

I genuinely love gaming to the point where I'll overlook a lot of flaws and just focus on the good stuff. It's very rare for me to actively dislike a game. My sweet spot seems to be games that generally get a 6 or 7 / 10 for some reason. I'd be a terrible reviewer.

Aero GPX is now available in early access on Steam, and there's even a demo.
It's a pretty blatant F-Zero X clone, I'd wishlisted it because I loved that game back in the day, although I did have some doubts about how well it'd hold up today. I tried the demo and true enough, it's not as mind-blowing today as it was back then and I can't really get excited about the gameplay anymore. But I'd still encourage anyone who's even mildly interested to give the demo a try.

Someone convince me to play Shenmue 3. I keep hearing it’s terrible and not worth anyone’s time, then on the flipside it’s nice to be back playing the series..

Played the demo of Eden Genesis as I like 2d cyberpunk type platformers but didn't know its more combat room, speed runner type of game. It seems a waste as the gameworld looks really nice, very blade runner, even has copy of the 1990 manga GitS poster. Maybe it becomes less combat room, speed runner type of game further in but I doubt it

Someone convince me to play Shenmue 3. I keep hearing it’s terrible and not worth anyone’s time, then on the flipside it’s nice to be back playing the series.. I will say, like it's forebears, there's still nothing quite like it out there. Even Like A Dragon doesn't quite match up. It's strange, tells a very grounded story, very slow paced and the soundtrack is excellent. That's kind of about it tho. It's my biggest disappointment considering how much I love 1 & 2. Waited 20+ years for the equivalent of an anime filler arc. Pacing drags to a crawl at points with very deliberate arbitrary gatekeeping in order to extend playtime. You could argue 1 & 2 does the same but it was never this much of a waste of time. The side activities feels even clunkier compared to the first two. And the fighting...there is no VF esque combat anymore and the game literally says to just press buttons as the tutorial. Poor feedback, button mashy nonsense. Don't even get me started on the stamina system. It's a game with some charm, in as much as you can get from a Kickstarter project with an all new dev team for a sequel to a 20+ year old game, but it's lacking those aspects that made the older games a little more unique. The surrounding cast doesn't have characters like Ren, Joy or a Tom. No funny mistranslations like "Years ago I was a Chinese". It's juuuust polished enough to avoid all that while also still having below average gameplay and a worse story. Sad way for the series to bow out. Bakeru is an action platformer made by Good-Feel (Wario Land Shake It, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Yoshi's Crafted World). Its coming out in Sept. The demo is out now on Switch and I thought it was pretty charming and played well.

Holy moly. That Bakeru looks really good! I didn’t even know it existed. That’s now on the shopping list alongside the DQ3 HD remake.

Now I'll pick out the next beloved franchise game, that had a sequel, which a lot of people hated. Deadly Premonition 2

Deadly Premonition 2 is better than Shenmue 3 I will say that. It's actually not a bad game if you can get past the horrible, crippling framerate. Not as good as 1 mind you, but it was fine.

Does it run better on PC?
I would have bought it on xbox if it had been released just because the framerate would likely be a lot better.

Well this looks absolutely delightful! Seems like they're going full on with the charm on this one which I'm all for, I thought Campus was just missing that little something special.

Is Deadly Premonition Origins any good on the Switch do you know? I say "good"... you know, even a slight improvement on the 360 version is fine.

Always had a soft spot for it. Never actually finished it back in the day but I did get quite far. Such a lovely crazy game. Your car engine sounded like farts if I remember right.

Not to forget York talking to himself when you get a headshot "Great", "Amazing" "Fantastic". And the soundtrack mixed to be louder than the dialogue. What a game.
