Been away for 5 days and spent a large proportion of that time reading about wargames. I don't know whether it's something that will stick, or just a passing fad engendered by ennui, so I have managed to keep my buying to one game - the original Unity of Command for 2.49. At the same time, I added about ten wargames (all in the 'Beer and Pretzels' wargaming category) to my wishlist. I think it would be prudent not to lose my head here, even though there are some great discounts.
Still, the doomsday clock marches one second closer to Armageddon:
Uncharted ----------------------------------|--------------------> Gary Grigsby's War in the East Me
edit: uh, and Radio Commander Complete Edition for 3.72

Bought Deus Ex: Mankind Divided last night as it's on sale. Jesus, it's a heavy game. I think it might run worse on my PC than Cyberpunk 2077. Granted that's a GeForce title so DLSS does a lot of the heavy lifting there but I'm kind of shocked that an older title like that runs so poorly. Might just stick to the PS4 version for later replays since even lowering MSAA down to 4 and switching to DX12, I still only average about 30fps so it's basically console performance in that case. The first benchmark I ran, with MSAA at 8 and in DX11 I averaged like 11fps. 💀

For some reason, they only used the new Dawn engine for Deus Ex MD and then for GOTG. Shadow of the Tomb Raider and even Avengers still used the old Foundation engine, which traces as far back as Tomb Raider Legends. The Foundation engine itself is basically a branch of the Crystal Engine, which was first used for Gex 3D... so yeah, old stuff.

FWIW, both games are stunning, the art direction just kind of tosses polygons at everything so I kind of understand it, but I assumed by now I'd be able to just brute force my way to 60fps on PC, but NOPE.

I was expecting the same discounts on DoW games that we get every single steam sale. But they're pretty good discounts on the Master Collections (eg: the entire set). Which is good, as I could never pick between Dark Crusade and Soulstorm

Summer Sale starts on Thursday apparently 6pm UK time today, I think!
I think I have enough games that waiting for the Xmas sale is the smart move. *Lets straight face slip* I could be tempted by a big discount on Gears Tactics.

EDIT:
Wow, the store pages are quite magnificently broken right now.

For Prime subbers, Mass Effect: Legendary Edition will be free on Prime Day next month via Amazon Games along with NFS:Heat, GRID Legends and some Star War games (Jedi Knight — Jedi Academy, Jedi Knight II — Jedi Outcast and Republic Commando).
Given Prime is £7.99/mo, a sub now can net you Far Cry 4, WRC8 (and a whole bunch of other titles below) along with those on Prime Day which I think is the 12th/13th July. Not too shabby really.
10 Second Ninja X 8Doors: Arum’s Afterlife Adventure Addling Adventures Bang Bang Racing Clouds & Sheep 2 Death Squared Fatal Fury Special Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams Gone Viral HUE Manual Samuel Metal Slug 2 Metal Unit Pumped BMX Pro Puzzle of the Year — 10 Pack Rain World Road Trip — 3 Pack Samurai Shodown II Serial Cleaner The Crow’s Eye The Darkside Detective The King of Fighters 2000 The King of Fighters 2002 The Metronomicon: Slay the Dance Floor

They don't have actual prices in green, something like "TH.nX" instead. You just click on the fake game and then go to the next clue.

It's a game title called guitar millionaire or something like that. It'll be hidden in the section that the clue takes you to. You just have to dig around really.
Edit: too slow. Yeah the servers are naff at the mo with lots of hanging and pages not loading. If only valve could've predicted that this might happen.

😎 Yeah, I seen that the Blade Runner Enhanced Edition came out yesterday. Is it any good? I could honestly barely tell the difference between the screenshots and the SCUMM version up on GOG … An absolute classic, though. So I’ll almost certainly pick it up anyway. EDIT: Yikes, just took a look at the reviews on Steam and GoG (with whom owners of the original version get a 50% discount). Brutal lol

Strangely tempted by Blood Bowl 2 even though I bought it on console way back.
I didn't manage to finish the tutorial on console. Basically the tutorial was doing a good job of telling me how to play, manage risk and all that, and meanwhile the AI team in the tutorial was just totally doing the opposite of what the tutorial was saying. Trying to run the length of the field with their clumsiest player and stuff like that; it was mind-boggling.
I had heard horror stories about Blood Bowl AI before and set it aside and never went back. Is it in any way viable for single player, does anyone know?

I can't see anything that I'd really want to grab right now. At least nothing bigger. So I just bought Promesa and Sunlight, which are both just small, cheap experiences that looked like they might be for me. So with nothing to really buy on steam at the moment I finally decided to get the Grim Dawn-expansions over at gog instead. Has been a while that I have done my one and only playthrough. Though I have been considering a few other games. But Cruelty Squad just looks... well, I don't know, but not inviting

I had heard horror stories about Blood Bowl AI before and set it aside and never went back. Is it in any way viable for single player, does anyone know? It's not very good, so it depends whether you are happy just steamrolling games. It makes very poor decisions which increases its turnover chances, and cages in weird ways. It also acts weird on defence, running additional players who could help away from the action. So you will win a lot, and arguably pick up some bad habits which might hurt if you switch to online. In the recent BB3 beta, by far the biggest issue that came up was concerns about improving that AI and making single player worthwhile.

Thanks! I suspected as much, appreciate the confirmation. No doubt there's fun to be had there in single player but at this stage, with too many games already....
