It's amazing how such ideologically blinkered fuckwits can ascend to the top of a profession supposed to be the preserve of the intelligent, diligent and capable.
My work is related to the High Court and it's amazing how utterly shit some lawyers and, more alarmingly, judges are.

It's a baffling decision for them to make, don't they know how much this will cost Republican politicians in child support??

Yep, the mistresses/victims of these people will still be able to get an abortion. The mantra of contemporary Western politicians, especially those on the right, is 'rules are for the poor'.

Don't be silly, they'll be on birth control and using condoms. Which is also similarly fine.

Are there any stats on those states that are likely to make abortion legal vs those that aren't and current abortion rates?

After this it’s anticipated that a federal ban will be coming if the GOP retake the house and senate in the midterms. Overturning Row Vs Wade has significant implications for issues beyond state control of abortion.
Also those links don’t directly address that abortions are lower in the red states because facilities aren’t as widely available and it’s still the norm to cross state lines to get one, which may also be outlawed in a lot of the red states after overturning RvW.

Would it also the pave the way to look at cases around say gay marriage and interracial marriage on a state level for example? I mean people might say I'm exagerrating and that would never happen but once something that was never codified into federal level gets given to individual states to look at independently then surely that means everything else gets looked at.

Gay marriage is widely believed to be the next culture war talking point after this, yeah. Interracial marriage potentially, but it would be a challenge to see how Thomas could be a part of that.

Interracial marriage potentially, I'm sure you've mentioned this before, but what possible argument is there against this beyond just blatant racism?
I don't see how you can even dress it up as anything else

That it’s not written by default in the constitution and is therefore a right decided at the state level.

This is very bad of me to say, especially as my mother is black but I don't think Clarence Thomas believes himself to be a black man.
Also I just saw what Louisiana Republicans are cooking up. Abortion to be classed as murder. They really have so much in common with the Taliban and ISIS. Although the GOP's dislike of Jews isn't so explicit, well, not until Jesus comes back to kill all the infidels. Sorry I mean non-Christians. The Jesus who is a Jew but we can't let a little thing like logic get in the way of absolute bigotry.

I got into it a bit the other day with someone. They were banging on about being a Christian means being pro life by default, and I had to be that guy and point out the only place abortion is mentioned in the Bible is when god gives specific instructions on how to carry it out. Numbers chapter 5 verse 11 onward if you’re interested.
Evangelicals as a whole were pro choice for a long while too, Christians against Abortion is a relatively recent doublethink.
