I got into it a bit the other day with someone. They were banging on about being a Christian means being pro life by default, and I had to be that guy and point out the only place abortion is mentioned in the Bible is when god gives specific instructions on how to carry it out. Numbers chapter 5 verse 11 onward if you’re interested. Evangelicals as a whole were pro choice for a long while too, Christians against Abortion is a relatively recent doublethink. Out of interest, why did you move to America?

After this it’s anticipated that a federal ban will be coming if the GOP retake the house and senate in the midterms. Overturning Row Vs Wade has significant implications for issues beyond state control of abortion. Would it also the pave the way to look at cases around say gay marriage and interracial marriage on a state level for example? I mean people might say I'm exagerrating and that would never happen but once something that was never codified into federal level gets given to individual states to look at independently then surely that means everything else gets looked at. Yeah. A large slice of the argument in Roe v Wade is over a citizen's right to privacy in how they live their life. Expect any 'other' way of life to be in the crosshairs now

The argument is now that no citizen is allowed privacy in the way they live their life which is a real headscratcher for the party that bangs on about small government.

The GOP really is a two party party nowadays. There are still old school Conservatives who favor small government and more local rights, but they’re being rapidly outpaced by the GQP/Trump side.

Well that'll be tricky to enforce. Will gay people already legally married just suddenly... not be?

One would hope that it's not fucking retroactive on top of everything else...
Then one would look at the past few years (decades?) over there and one would realise that one is an optimistic idiot and they would absolutely make it retroactive if they could.
America, land of the free!* *As long as you are white, heterosexual, Christian, with no need for medical attention, terms and conditions apply.

(With apologies to those here who are from America, of course, but I think it's obvious how much of a shitshow this could be and how the situation over there has been declining for quite a while)

Could America start to see a bit of a brain drain to Canada or the UK?

Could America start to see a bit of a brain drain to Canada or the UK? If that happened every state would resemble Florida.

Jen Psaki repeatedly and decisively smacking down Peter Doocy for asking wildly imbecillic questions is going to make an epic compilation video someday.

So she's up for reelection? The entire House goes up for rejection every two years It’s one of the reason it’s so broken. They must be on permanent campaign mode. Not much time left to legislate and it requires a lot of constant money to be generated…

Tbh, for a lot of elected officials it feels like "legislating" is a secondary concern to marketing, shitposting and pulling dumb fucking stunts. It's happening here too.
I blame Trump. I don't think most people could successfully pull off his particular brand of vapidness, but that doesn't stop them from trying!

It’s primary day for a bunch of places today and…the crazies aren’t doing so well. Trump’s endorsement isn’t the golden ticket a lot of the GQP thought it was going to be, and some early signs point to this leading to an entrenched civil war in the party as they decide to turn the big lie on the winners and cry fraud.
