I'm hoping when I get back to it it won't run in a ridiculously grainy low resolution at 60fps.

It looks pretty good in the night scenes, wouldn't say I'm blown away by the graphics but they're decent.
I abandoned the first one because it just wasn't fun for me but I'm really enjoying this.

I'll certainly get back to it at some point.
My current elden ring addiction suggests it may be a while yet, but maybe if i get stuck somewhere for long enough, some zombie mashing & climbing about will freshen things up.

Feels like I should be really upgrading my blueprints more than I have done so they're more effective. But having to get those uncommon trophies from the runners at night and it's hard to do when they're all swarming you. Is there a more effective method?
And this does what I've grown to hate in games which is give meaningless stats in gear. Getting a better version of my chest piece from purple to gold upgrades one of my stats from 4% to 6%. The stats are so low they're effectively meaningless that Im not seeing a difference in gameplay.

So just started and reached first safe house...why is this not drawing me in anywhere near as much as the first game ? Also I thought we had the option of manual save (Xbox) I can't find it !

What's this like in single player? I'm playing sp I also played and loved the first one this way. However I have the complete edition on ps4 (playing via ps5) and I have been doing so in co-op, it is fun so either or. I tend to play them sp first, I have done this ever since I jumped into Wildlands coop. I had the game 10 minutes and joined someone who was on final mission, I did not know this, but soon realised when the credits rolled! luckily I still ended up playing for many many hours as it did not really harm the narrative.

I still need to get it finished.
Stupid Elden ring stealing all other games from me for ages... 😀
Nearly finished sniper elite 5, so maybe get back to it sometime soon!

At some point 40 hrs into the game I had a realisation that I wasn't actually enjoying going on these poor side quests, getting collectibles, crafting materials, new loot that gives me incremental stat upgrades like 1.5% heavy attack boost, even for legendary gear. Went ahead and blitzed to the end of story mode and it wasn't much better.
Think I prefer the first Dying Light when all is said and done.

Initial reactions after an hour and a half are that it's okay, too early to have any strong feelings but nothing so far has wowed me.
I am hoping it becomes a lot more fun, we shall see.

I just can't stomach the will to go back to it. Something just feels really off. The first game was amazing, but I really don't rate this one at all.

You tried playing it around elden ring time which probably didn't help either.

Not that keen on this game.
Feels like pointless running simulator.
Playing coop with a friend. Doing few quests at a time.
So we run from start to point b. Talk. Run past zombies to point c. Back to point b. Run to point d, fight a boss or sneak. Done. Go to start point.
We are not really far. But it is... somehow boring and repetitive already?
All weapons are the same. Fighting is to be avoided unless its part of the mission so zombies are just obstacles i barely pay attention to.
Also i am always on low life cause i every so often misjudge jump and almost die No point in healing cause i will just do it again. But fortunately even on low life its hard to die from fall.
Maybe it getw better but its just so shallow.
Edit I am getting new gpu 6700xt and 144hz144p monitor soon so will go back to it. Maybe running smoother than 40fps on medium will make the game at least look more pleasant.

I'm still amazed that this runs at only 1080p on performance mode.

You tried playing it around elden ring time which probably didn't help either. In all honesty I was bored of it before Elden Ring even came out. It's one of my biggest gaming disappointments yet I think, considering just how much I loved the first one. I played it to death, including The Following stuff. I even bought Hellraid and played that to death as well.
The world in the first one is what sets it apart. This new environment in DL2 is just the same small areas copy and pasted over and over and there's just nothing memorable about it at all.
It's rubbish.

I'm glad I held off, I was interested in the run up but didn't grab it. I will wait a few years until they have improved it a load and grab it cheap.

I enjoyed my time with it, but yeah, if you've waited this long just hold off for the inevitable "GotY" version for a tenner.
They were definitely overly fond of a bit of ctrl+c ctrl+v action. The subway stations all had a pretty much identical final room.

Yeah. You can tell there was some real problems going on behind the scenes with this one. It's not even as good as Dead Island (in terms of area design, layout and attention to detail - obviously mechanically it's way better).
Things like volatiles etc - so memorable in the first one - barely get a look in here (at least up to where I am, which is a fair few hours into the second area) and more than once I've aggroed the zombies and just stood there twatting them all until the sun's come up. No threat whatsoever.
But, as I say, my main gripe is the world. In the first area there are certain building layouts that you run in to time after time, to the extent that I was getting seriously disorientated as I kept thinking I was in a different area. The icing on the cake was then going to the second part of the city, eventually opening access to another part of town, to discover the exact same buildings and layouts as in the first, smaller, area.
That's when I couldn't be arsed any more. Obviously every open world has reused assets - hell, Elden Ring resuses the same churches and ruins etc - but I've never had it this noticable before.
Anyway. I'll shut up.

Nahhh, the gameplay is excellent. Even better than the first given all the new stuff.
The world is diverse, it really opens up in next stages.
You’ve got to make you’re own fun on the side, like go into those buildings at night and do stuff.
The story is better than the first too.
One thing I would say is that the first one felt better at night and more dangerous. Yes, you could argue that made it more fun, especially with a friend.
The first one felt original, it was new and exciting. The second is just more of the same so it’s bound to not have the same impact.

I'm about 30 hours in. How long do I need to wait until the world gets diverse? Is it after I've done my 14th or 15th identikit night building? Or is there a huge hidden part of the map I've yet to find?
I would argue the fact that night was more dangerous in the first one and therefore more fun. Yes. See one of my big complaints above. There's no danger. Anywhere. I can stand in a street at night and twat zombies and other idiots until the sun comes up. Try that in the first one and you're wearing your insides on the outside.
Bearing in mind that The Following was just "more of the same" albeit with some new mechanics and I didn't find that boring in the same way this is.

Enjoying this, maybe it helps that I never played DL1.
Just opened up free roam last night and went for a wander. Found a military patrol that had been munched so I set to work with my trusty machete and cleaned up. Found loads of arrows and other goodies in the ambos and the tank, also went up a whole combat level. Wooh!
I'm finding the parkour combat a bit fiddly, so either that will eventually become second nature or I won't be using it.
I spied an encounter on the road with some guys looting, decided to lure a bunch of zombs their way and then just climbed up and watched the carnage. Made me chuckle

14hours in now still enjoying it. It's very satisfying whacking zombs in the face with a blunt pipe weapon. Currently there is an event called hypermode running which means zombs go flying if they're currently stunned. I might be overlevelled now because I went round and did loads of convoy events to get used to the combat timing and also loot stuff. As I was doing the story missions it seemed to be pushing me to side with the Sophie and the Bazaar peeps but Barney man, what a cunt. Gone with peacekeepers instead in the hope I get to smash Barney's face in. turns out you do get to smash him in the grid. . Felt this was the right time to use my legendary 2H axe.

Did anybody else that play this side with the PK? Is it possible to save Anderson when you call the lift up ? I thought I'd done it quickly so wasn't expecting a twitching Anderzomb to come sprinting at me ... cut the girl clean in half with my whackin great broadsword
Rest In Pieces love! o_0

New update today. Apparently they've really upped the gore and combat physics. Might be fun to have a look. Funnily enough they've done this with Dead Island 2 releasing. Coincidence?

I was so 'meh'd out with this by the end, that even though I bought it digitally (like a fool who expected it to be pretty good), I'm not about to reinstall just to find out!

Indeed, as was I. I did actually reinstall it a few weeks ago to finish it and it's definitely a lot better after a years worth of updates. I'm intruiged enough in this to havea quick look, but there are more updates coming over the next few months. By then it may actually be close to the first game...
