Kind of lame how once you get ranged weapons you can cheese anomalies ridiculously easy. There’s also a couple of map spots where you can just farm chases, alert a howler, sit in UV and swing away. Anomalies have been a bit of a disappointment so far. I've done two and found them surprisingly easy to beat, so long as you can get to them. I'll probably regret saying this by the time I find the next one...

Last post before I go back to work. What's everyone been upgrading? I've been finding allocating blueprint upgrade resources a bit tricky. After some initial upgrades to health and lockpicks, I've focused on the inhaler that replenishes immunity, just cos it can be pretty stressful creeping through GRE quarantine locations or dark hollows / forsaken stores.
I haven't been able to choose a weapon mod to upgrade - decision paralysis. Anyone got any weapon mod blueprint upgrade recommendations? (Aside from the durability one, which seems like a good choice).

I'm also gutted that my Artifact Long Axe (with fire, shock and durability mods) is nearing the end of its service. It has cleaved through many a zombie, and staggered many a bandit. Is there no repair mechanic down the line? Shame if not, but I guess it means you have to keep mixing things up. Fighting groups of humans is tough. I haven't got the dodge, leap, kick mechanic down yet. Also need lots more stamina, quite a few areas that I can't get to as yet, but only done the first few minor quests at the bazaar, so really early days for me.

VortexI think I just did that underground one this morning! Got a lovely legendary weapon (or whatever the gold ones are). Really enjoying the side quests as well. Think my next main mission involves climbing a water tower. Had a jolly good chase earlier as well. I'm enjoying night time so much that I seem to be choosing to go out in it more often. Makes a nice change from DL1 where I never went out in it until the very end unless I had to.

What's the deal with volatiles this time around? I don't think I've seen any yet. Well, one when I stupidly went into a GRE quarantine during the day but apart from that not a single one.
One thing I really like is the whole sleeping zombie thing. More than once I've pelted inside somewhere only to shit myself as I stumble into a room full of them as they start to wake up.
I'm also a big fan of the chases, and how the runners just burst out doorways and buildings as you're sprinting along.
It does a lot right, that's for sure. Just wish the first area was a bit less cut and paste and we had a bit of dynamic weather, but the gameplay itself is top notch - a particular shout out to the parkour. Now I've upgraded a few things I can fall much further and also roll if I need to when I land so I'm getting far less fall damage. Also upgraded stamina 3 times and health twice so I can climb and fight better. I also happen to quite like all the decision making. Fuck knows as to it's lasting impact but it's nice to have a wee choice now and again, whatever the ramifications are.

I can't say for sure down the line but certainly for now there isn't one - the best you can do is add the durability mod to prolong your favourite weapon's life. One thing I learned - durability = number of hits that make contact; 50 durability = 50 hits etc. I agree re: humans. The thing that made a big difference for me when you can is to add the perfect parry and / or perfect dodge combat upgrades. Once stunned, you can wail on them. I do think it's worth pumping more upgrades into stamina than health (perhaps two or three stamina upgrades for every health) as it is relatively easy to replenish health (not always easy in the heat of the moment, though if you explore and find military health kits it makes a real difference). And as you say, stamina is essential for accessing certain locations.

Yeah, I'm really curious about volatiles too - I wonder if they'll become frequent in later areas? I never thought I'd say this but I do miss them. Moving outside at night can be tense sometimes but it's not terrifying like it was in Dying Light.

Nowhere near as terrifying but, again, I actually do see that as a plus. On the ground at night it's tense as hell but on the roof it's fine. DL1 was just a no go for me at night completely, so at least this is pushing me out at night more.

RE weapon repair. If you stick a mod on a brand new weapon I'm guessing that's a waste of potential durability? Have a feeling I did that and it didn't go over 180, so I should've probably used it for a while before sticking the first mod on. I always seem to struggle to mod new weapons in the heat of battle when my current one breaks, so should probably try to be a bit more organised. I've just been buying every legendary weapon I see at vendors for 1000ish coins. Really enjoying it so far anyway. Think I'm just about at the second section now after ploughing through the story a bit. Just past the car factory and on the run with my new sniper friend Very curious to see how differently that mission would've panned out if I hadn't sided with the Bazaarians.

Do mods ADD on to the overall durability, or REPAIR durability if it's low? I get a bit confused.

I think the latter.

They repair 50 durability. Not sure if that increases as you upgrade them though.

But do they add 50 durability to a new weapon, increasing its maximum?

Oh right, no I’m pretty sure it just repairs them. Don’t think it added anything when I added one to new weapon previously.

See that's what I thought too. Which is... Odd. Almost as though it's only worth modding a weapon once you've used it for a bit.

I can forsee them patching in weapon repairs a la DL1. I hope. I hate lobbing a weapon out after a while. You had to do that in DL1 anyway but you at least got 3 repairs first, plus some free ones.

Weapons are definitely a lot more durable overall in this though. If you added in repairs as well, you wouldn’t really ever need to change weapons I guess.

I've been going through weapons like nobody's business. Then again, I do like my limb hacking.

starchildhypocrethes as you increase in player level you start to unlock level 2/3 etc weapons so you'd definitely switch every now and again. I had one weapon that regenerated stamina on hit. You could just spam the attack button constantly and randomly poison people/do a flame burst attack. It was utterly broken for boss fights.

Also worth buying a decent weapon from a vendor before going into a research facility. You earn more than the weapon cost in loot and it means you don’t even have to bother being quiet. A current level rare or unique equipped with mods might as well equal god mode, especially if you match it with gear. At level 3 I at once point had a 70 damage machete that could gout flame on command. I’m tempted to just try it during the day and see how it stacks up against runners and volatiles. Might be another good way to farm upgrade trophies.

Question
Excluding bugs which i assume will be patched out, and graphics.
Is the game superior to dl1?
Gameplay Design Story
If they were both released at the same time and you could play only one Which one you would choose.
Wondering if it is worth getting in few months or getting dl1 instead.
Also
How is co-op?

I would say it’s a better game all round, but it’s subjective. DL1 works better as a horror game, if that’s your thing. At times DL2 nearly resembles Just Cause in how power fantasy it can get, after a few levels, perks and unlocks the main character is practically a superhero.

I wouldn't hesitate to pick up DL1 - presumably it's going cheap. DL2 I think improves on it in various ways but the core is very much the same. As Gremmi suggests DL1 is a lot scarier, with night time producing some pant-filling moments. I haven't felt that so much this time, which is disappointing. But it feels a bit slicker (some bugs, not been too bad though), and I'm enjoying the gameplay / missions as much if not more than DL1.
I miss my artifact axe. Just picked up my first bow, though - also artifact, it's incredibly OP. Took down a Goon across a courtyard in 4/5 shots.
