Not done the weaver armor bit yet, I don't think. One of my side quests just reads "find a use for the power cell," so I imagine I just have one so far. Time to go crawling in some cauldrons, I guess! The power cells tend to be hidden in offshoots from main quest dungeons. I’m not even sure you can go back and get them if you missed them. My current run I’ve got all but one and have to do more mail quest to reach the last one, never actually got the armour before myself, mainly because I’ve missed one or two during the quests.

It's great armor and behaves kinda like the quen shield spell in The Witcher 3. Pretty much mandatory for harder settings.
I've only gone and preordered Forbidden West, mainly as a result of the DF video. Always thought I wasn't a graphics whore but apparently I am. I'm no good at playing multiple games concurrently so it's likely gonna get shelved once Elden Ring comes out.
EDIT: Getting the PS4 disc version to play on PS5... does anyone know if there'll be a massive download for the PS5 upgrade or is the code on the disc the same for both versions? I suspect the former. Guess there'll be a day one patch to download anyway.

Ever since I learned that to “shelve” a drug means to stick it up your ass, I see so many comment and news headlines so differently.

Nanocrystal it'll be a completely different version, not a patch. Pop the disc in and go through some confusing menus to make sure you're installing the correct version. Goddamnit... I might just cave in if I see a £45ish deal.

Pffft, as if I'll get a look in. By chance, he has an inset day in Friday so will put a good dent in it, I am sure.

From memory there are plenty of YT videos showing how to get the power cells. I used them in order to get the armour ASAP because I am a cheating n00b.

I think there is only 1 point in the game where if you've not got all the power cells up to that point, you can mess it up. But at that point it really tells you that you're about to go to a point of no return.
In fact, I'm pretty sure at that exact point there's one close by.

Last story mission I did, I found another power cell. So I have at least two. Not sure if I'm bothered by power armor though. I was more concerned about vital story in side content than stronger gadgets as I want to move into FW as quickly as possible.

Power armour needs 5 cells - it is stronger gadgets, as you say, but because its so useful and keeps you alive much more than other armours, it will actually help you speed through the game

Hmm, it's been a long while since I originally dropped off, so I'm not sure if I've in-story upgraded the spear, but there are two skills in the tree that have made it a bit stronger.

If you fully/mostly upgrade your spear you can stun almost everything pretty easily and smaller robodinos go down in one hit. Those raptor things pretty much die after one fully wound up heavy attack.

And if you've done any cauldrons, just override stuff and the fights are over much quicker
There's a side quest that increases your spears damage near to the start of the game, but tbh, you'll be fine without it if you've missed it

Giant Bomb (RIP) don't seem as enamoured of FW as most outlets. Apparently there is a really slow start where you run around being diplomatic before they let you head west.

Do they forbid you from going in that direction?...

I read there's a bit at the start where you're carolled for a bit while it introduces stuff, and then off you pop

Was it Jeff that reviewed it? He was talking about it on their podcast and he didn't like the first one that much either really. He basically doesn't use many of the tools available and then complained all his fights are the same.
I quite often disagree with his thoughts but always listen to what he has to say as he at least explains why he doesn't like things.

It was Jeff and Jeff, and yes apparently you can be stopped from going west, somehow. It is forbidden after all.

It is kind of true. You do have to force yourself to use a lot of the weapons because you can kill everything with just two of the bows

If a game isn’t designed to direct you towards using the cool tools it gives you, just an option you have to force yourself to use, then the design is lacking a bit.

I'm not sure that worked so well on the harder difficulty, using the traps felt essential. I could be misremembering though as it was a while back. The dlc was certainly a fair bit harder than the base game too.
Although that could be wrong as well because I played the dlc way after the main game so had forgotten how to do everything so that could be why it was harder.
