It's tough though. Change too much in a sequel and you risk alienating the fanbase of the original one, and companies can't risk losing sales on innovation with an established IP. Of course, but I think some sequels could do with changing up the flow of the game. For HDZ, it's fairly cut and paste, with some new mechanics. I'm no game designer, but it would have been cool to take on some massive machines, like Shadow of the Colossus mechanic style. Climbing the Tall Neck is somewhat there already. they already have the giant machines in there with the Horus from the chariot line but all we got was flying up and grabbing the power core for bombing runs

I played both Horizon games and if I am honest, I cannot remember anything much about the story at all. There are some vague remnants in my mind but that's it. Open World games like that are now so vast that the story gets lost amongst the exploration, at least that's how I feel anyway!

I liked HFW and its DLC despite its dogged attempts to make me dislike it with woeful combat mechanics against humans being the standout and strangely unpolished climbing.

I feel like I should play it now. But that means I'd have to play the first one again and I don't want to do that.

I haven't played that many open-world games recently, but I almost always was losing interest/energy before the end. So a direct sequel to any open-world game doesn't sound appealing. As AgentHomer says, the story often gets lost among the world, and so basing the sequel on 'continuing the story' wouldn't appeal in the same way it might for a shorter linear game. I guess that's why AssCreed and Farcry games totally change up the setting each time, to try and keep it fresh.

Cex £5 but will the £10 upgrade then get you access to the DLC? My previous post was a flat no for a purchase and playthrough of this but for £10 that sounds reasonable but then will I play it? I should just for the DLC.

I think the normal edition is fine.

My favourite thing about Zero Dawn was the loading screen music so the upgrade will be a downgrade for me I've played it twice and got the platinum so unlikely i'll get it. Forbidden West was ok but i didn't enjoy the main quest despite the basic premise sounding good at the start.

I LOVED Horizon Zero Dawn, I didn’t think I would but it was absolutely brilliant 10/10 amazing story, incredible combat system, beautiful game world, genuinely rewarding busywork
However these last few pages makes me wonder if Horizon Forbidden West is even worth playing - is it?

The story shits the bed but I’d think you’d like everything else. It’s essentially the first game but bigger.
I still need to play the DLC, so I guess I’ll save that as an early Pro experience.

If you thought the first was a 10/10 you will love the second. It's an absolutely massive dose of the same but prettier.

It's a shame you can't unlock a skimpy outfit for Aloy. Ass jiggling whilst firing a bow. Pwhoor.

Grr. now I'm wondering if I should grab it on PC before they do a Dark Souls Remastered and quadruple the price.
Except it'll run at 15fps on my laptop so it's probably not worth it.

The pre-order for the £10 Zero Dawn remaster is up on the PlayStation Store if anyone is interested.

Well, if the HZD that was regularly reduced to 8 quid won't run very well on my pc, then I guess the one that's going to be 40/50 quid is even less likely to run well.

That's great and all but fundamentally it's still a remaster that really wasn't required and I'd rather have Nixxes work on a more worthy remaster if Sony is finding it difficult to get new 1st party games through the door. It's still the same game underneath that people were lukewarm to okay on.

Just a pointer for anyone who has purchased the remaster. You need to start the download process yourself, its not automatic.it’s a separate product for the PS5 on the store. Look for ‘Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered’ and download that.
