Right, after the discussion in that thread on that horrible treacherous site, I just saw it cheap on CDKeys. I'm going to fire it up tomorrow so someone better bloody well tell me what the hell I'm meant to do.
Please. Help me.

Oh it's ropey as fuck but has a certain something. I have no fucking clue what I'm doing mind you. I like it so far.

I always felt the world had a bit of Dark Souls about it. Though I regret rebuying it on Switch.

How come you regret it?

Rose tinted glasses. I remember it looking better than it did, and I forgot how frustrating it is in the early game when you and your pawns are squishy.
I thought it would be cool to have this huge expansive rpg game on a handheld too, but it feels like they've had to make a lot of compromises to squeeze it in.
I suspect its alot better on pc, with ramped up visuals and better framerate?

I always felt the world had a bit of Dark Souls about it. Though I regret rebuying it on Switch. The DLC, Bitterblack Isle, is very Dark Souls-like. Especially if you go there at too low level and die in 1 hit < I always kind of drift away from the main story at the... uh, underground stuff. Seems to go on forever, is great up until then though.

Zuluhero Im on xbox. Its not great looking but neither was dark souls tbh. So I'm not fussed. I'll see how I get on with it but so far the combat is pretty damn cool.

Had this on Switch for months. Didn’t play a massive amount of the original on 360 so I could be very tempted to play.
Expect an update in a few days where I’m moaning about the voice I picked for my pawn. Happened before.

Stop bumping this. Keeps popping up on sale at a ridiculous price, and I don't want to end up buying it and abandoning it after a few hours when the familiarity creeps in.
But yes, it's great. Wasn't keen on the absolutely cryptic quests at times, but the design towards quick multiple playthroughs certainly helped if you missed anything.

It's a bit overwhelming but think I'm starting to get it now. Just created my pawn and faffing about in a camp.
How much attention should I be paying to these pawns? Do I always need to make sure they've got decent armour etc and healing items or are they quite self sufficient?

Should always give them decent gear, and lump them with a variety of potions. Seem to remember them reviving me when necessary with the appropriate stuffs. Usual RPG tropes apply, so if you're a melee class, better to have some wizard/archer support and vice-versa. No idea how active the Pawn system is anymore, but sometimes they'll get stuff from other players if they've been used like cheap whores.

Just don't use 'Guardian' pawns, they are useless. Yours can turn into one if you spam the heal me button too much, but you can sit them down in a chair and give them a stern talking to (reset their inclination) at least.

Yeah, I ended up escorting the cart instead so I'm at that big city now. I went to the Pawn's guild and now I'm fighting skellies underground, which all seems quite manageable so far. It's quite addictive. As I'm a fighter, thought it best to have an archer pawn as my main, and I still have that mage wanker following me so got all my bases covered.

I loved that fight at the beginning with the chimera where you clamber all over the thing to disable it bit by bit. Was a tad disappointed that that style of fight was rarely used afterwards, although I never finished the game. I spent several hours chucking pawns and npcs off of cliffs though, so definitely got my money's worth

Right,
The mage is the only class that can heal. You need a healer. Ranged pawns are no good.
You're better off doing the ranger/strider side yourself, but if you definitely want to melee, then have a mage as your pawn, and give him or her a couple of damage spells and anodyne to heal. Definitely don't have guardian as the pawns trait as it's rubbish. In the Inn at Gran Soren, there's a chair that you can sit in and tell your pawn how to act. Do that.
Those bandits will kick your arse at the moment.
If you get to grab soren, that's where all the main quests are. Do those and you'll get some decent gear.
Make sure you have oil for your lantern and also everyone else needs oil. And healing herbs. There's a function on the dpad that will tell everyone to heal and/or wait till after a fight and your mage will do it automatically if everyone has lost a lot of health. It won't heal to maximum, hence use herbs to top up after the spell or just sleep at the inn(s).
Search everything and smash everything. There's loads of stuff everywhere.
And make sure you're either very light or light on endurance/cumberance and give everything heavy to your pawn.
Later, you can hire 2 more NPC pawns so they'll be 4 of you. You can hire game based NPC's or people's pawns on your own friends list.
See if I've got mine available in the rift - he's called uncle Vyrt.
And definitely consider strider at least to play about with. It's super satisfying combat.
Shit I might have to fire it up now.
And get hold of a permanent ferrystone. If you got the dlc version you'll also have some kit on you from the start that's quite good
Store stuff you don't need in the Inn

I stuck this on but haven't played it in about 3 years. I appear to have ragequit at a boss 2 skeleton mages that fly about (I'm melee), summon loads of chaff and then darknado the shit out of me any tips? Edit: Randomly murdered them on the third try, don't ask me how or why

quadfather Cool man ta. I'm at Gran Soren and just finished the Everfall quest this morning, legging it when all the snake wankers appeared. My next thing to do it seems was talk to a guy who gave me a list of jobs. I chose one so off to do that next I think? Annoyingly the witchwood quest is showing as cancelled now, so I didn't get chance to go back and do that. I'm on xbox, I presume you were ps? So can't see your pawn but I noticed one of graxlars was there. Seemed quite high level so I left it. Can you buy healing items? Also the only commands I seem to have are help, go or come here...

The commands just mess up your pawn really, best to leave it to do it's own thing. If you want to break the game, search the pawn-verse (I forget the proper name), for the most hired pawns, they will be stuffed with endgame kit and do way more damage than you, they are still a bit thick though.

Ah right. Yeah I'll just ignore the commands. Don't really want an overlevelled pawn though, not yet at least. Even though I got squashed by a giant 17 times.

Yeah, keep doing random quests if you want. I forget what triggers it, but eventually you'll be summoned to the castle. Before that summoning, when you've left gran Soren and come back a few times, I think that's when it triggers this cutscene where you have to kill something massive. It's not a chimera, but similar difficulty. Anyway, once you've done that, you'll end up at the castle doing prooer quests. They'll take you all over the place. You might have already got some if you've done the everfall event though, so sounds like you're on the right path Yeah, don't worry about witchwood - you'll be there soon enough. Yeah you can buy healing herbs from town. As you come out of the inn, look right, and there are two traders. The bloke on the right does weapons etc (check back often for any "new" items) and the women in the stall to the left of him does herbs and utility stuff. Also, keep an eye on what things require to be upgraded - it's worth it to get your kit top notch. And honestly, please try the strider to see what you think. Arrow tastic, fast as fuck, taking people's eyes out, double jumping, uppercut dagger attacks, slow Mo arrow shots - it's the best. And ranger is even better. There's a skill called ten fold flurry, that literally fires 10 arrows at once. It's fucking mental. Ah shit, yeah, I'm on ps. Sorry

Ha I might then, although I am loving all the sword shit just now.
Ah I know the place you mean, still getting my bearings. I'll top up on healing shit next time I'm on.
Have to say I'm quite surprised how much there actually is to this. Even the combat has a lot more going on than I thought it would.

Go for melee if you like it. I should probably give it a go, but I always end up ranger coz it's so good. Also, don't forget that you can mix certain skills. So say you're a fighter and you've bought a certain skill. Later on, if you respec to a different class, some of the skills carry over, so you can really mix it up a lot. That's why I do strider, get the cool jumpy/dagger stuff, then swap to ranger to get the awesome bow skills on top. It's the same with all the other classes. Mint system. You'll love the combat system later when you've unlocked loads of shit. I used to get my arse handed to me but my ranger now can kick the fuck out of anything well, most things. Occasionally. And it's one of the best games fighting at night. Have a go at a chimera at night in a forest with no lanterns. It's absolutely fucking terrifying yet also hilarious with your pawns screaming in terror.
