Not sure if anyone can help with this, but had a random problem start with my monitor. Started last night when I went to turn off my computer. The display didn't come on. It had been working fine earlier and so didn't think much of it. Turned the computer on this evening and still have the same problem.
The HDMI is working fine, on the monitor and on my nearby TV, so GPU and screen itself are fine. It just seems to be the display port that is having difficulties. I did see the bios appear once or twice through it, but mostly that doesn't appear (not that unusual, as DP often seems to only work when the drivers kick in). It is also flicking on when I turn the computer on or plug it in, as if it sees something, but the display remains blank and soon says no signal. I think it must be drivers, but I'm having the same issue in both Windows and Linux.
Problems with DP do seem to be quite common (bizarre considering it is now the default for GPUs), but I've never had it like this before. Not really sure what else to try besides a different DP cable, which I'm not expecting to make much difference (don't think I've got one, so would have buy another to test it).

Well as long as you’re waiting for a new cable you could try inverting the cable you have.

Make sure your cable is straight, iron it too, just to be on the safe side.
But seriously, it does sound like a hardware problem. Are there any other ports on the GPU/monitor you can try? Or maybe you have a mate you can borrow a cable from?

Just managed to dig out the cable that came with the monitor to give a go. Had to drag the monitor to right next to my PC due to the stupidly short cable they supplied. Still had the same problem.
Actually getting quite a few hardlocks on boot as well (happened 2 or 3 times in the ~10 boots), so seems there might be a bit more going on than just a display port issue.

The usual applies, then. Disconnect all unnecessary things, reseat memory, internal cables, etc. Take memory out, put back in one by one, that sort of thing.

Stumbled upon this post - https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidemasterrace/comments/6kd1gd/if_you_ever_have_trouble_with_displayport_no/
Turns out, unplugging the power and plugging it back in actually worked! Seems it can become loose and have enough power for HDMI, but not the DP port.
Not sure what the random few hardlocks I was getting were though. I think it might have been during the Windows boot rather than during BIOS. Will keep an eye on that and check some logs if it happens again, but doesn't seem to be linked to the other issue.

You mean power to the GPU? If a connection was iffy it could cause boot problems.
Anyway, glad it’s all sorted.

No, the power cable into the monitor. It felt like it had a good connection and didn't feel at all loose, so wasn't expecting it to work. The DP port was also detecting a cable being connected, just not the signal.
Whether it was a loose cable as the Reddit post suggests I'm not 100% sure, but definitely seemed to be at the monitor end rather than the PC end.

Huh. I don’t actually have any experience with DP, no display I own has it.
