If you're ever bored on the internet, you might want to take a look at some of the Intellivision Amico threads over at Atari Age. They're weirdly possessive about their as yet unreleased foot spa and it's quite amusing.
They're now selling 'Collectors Editions' of the eight release games for $150.00 - games that are scheduled to cost no more than $10.00 if/when the thing actually launches. Read that again, you can NOW buy games for a console that doesn't even have a release date. Just gets better and better this one.

I suppose this is a better thread to ask than the fancy new TV and soundbar thread. So, if I buy a fancy new 4K OLED TV and want to play my old retro consoles (mainly Saturn onwards) using a mix of RGB SCART, Composite SCART (for the odd console I didn't get a good cable for), SVHS (just my N64 I think) and component what would be the best method, minimising lag while aiming for the best image quality I can, for doing this on these HDMI only TVs. I have seen stuff like the OSSC (and Pro versions), Retrotink stuff, special cables per console (sounds a pricy option with all of the consoles) and the (I believe) out of print Framemeister. Any ideas or suggestions on the best way to go about this as it is one of the things keeping me on my old TV. The OSSC can muddle along pretty well on default settings, but you'll always have that niggling feeling that you could be getting a better picture with some tweaking. I've been an OSSC user for a while now, but I'll almost certainly replace it with a Retrotink 5x at some point in the future.

Nice, now if only they could recognize my old Wii U purchases.

Shocking display of common sense there. It only took them three console generations to get it right.
Speaking of 60hz I modded my SNES with a SuperCIC the other day. As per usual I managed to fuck it up and spent a day troubleshooting an apparent short circuit somewhere and it turned out I must have dropped an infinitesimally small glob of solder on the PPU legs that I'd been messing with. Literally couldn't see it even when checking for it under a magnifying glass. Ended up just dragging the iron over the pins and sure enough, a glob of solder revealed itself that must have been bridging two pins and it all worked like a charm once it was removed.
Like the time I managed to fix a Megadrive that I'd pulled one of the PPU pins clean off by drilling a god damn hole into the chip, my ability to fuck up simple jobs only to fix them like I know what I'm doing is really something

This was always my whole problem with it. I just know I'm too much of a perfectionist that I'd be messing with the settings endlessly and never playing any games. If the settings worked across the board then that would be one thing, but since each system is different I just knew better than to put myself through it. It's not really a fault of the device, it's just not a fit for me personally.

I plan to buy a MiSTer next year and spend some time hooking it up to my CRT. If it works out then I'm thinking of selling off all my old games and hardware. I want to give my kids a good look at the old platforms but other than that it seems that;
a) most games are better emulated on a good CRT, b) The retro market is peaking and c) they'll end up in a cardboard box in Oxfam if I'm not the one who disposes of them.
I'll probably hang on to a Spectrum 128 and Vectrex because emotions.
What I wanted to know is, has anyone sold off all their old consoles/games and regretted it? Which ones and why?

My Retrotink 5x arrived yesterday. I don't even know where to start - the picture quality is absolutely unreal.
I've never seen a PVM in the flesh but as a user of various high end consumer CRTs even in recent years, the 5x on an OLED finally, genuinely surpasses CRT image quality especially considering the size of the panel.

I'll probably hang on to a Spectrum 128 and Vectrex because emotions. What I wanted to know is, has anyone sold off all their old consoles/games and regretted it? Which ones and why? Yes. Some 20 years ago, after a bad breakup, I sold: Saturn x 3 (white/PAL/skeleton 'This is Cool') and 100+ games (The clear Saturn went to Darran Jones of Retro Gamer with a pile of shmups) Dreamcast x 4 (pink Hello Kitty, black R7, black Sega Sports, PAL) and 120+ games SNES x 3 (PAL, US, JPN) and 80+ games MD x 2 (PAL, JPN) and 80+ games PCE x 2 (JPN, Euro Tuebo Grafx) w/ CD Rom and 70+ games Neo Geo and 30+ games Panasonic Q GC and assorted shit including GX4000, Jag, 3DO, JPN PS1, Master System, etc etc etc I kept my Intellivision, Amiga and Spectrum because childhood. Obviously at first, I was wounded. As the years have gone by, I don't miss cleaning it, I don't miss feeling bad about having so many games when I know I've only put real time into a few dozen of them, I don't miss the clutter, and I don't miss the inconvenience. Everything, literally everything that I used to consider a favourite back then has made it over to either X360, PS4 or Switch, bar official releases for a few Cave games, and Cosmic Smash, Border Down and Rival Schools 2 for Dreamcast. Back in the day, the Neo Geo wasn't as bad to collect for as you might imagine; of my games I only ever paid big money for two - £150 for Metal Slug 3 and around £240 for Waku Waku 7. The rest were all under a hundred quid, some no more than £30-£50. I got bored a month or two ago and decided to jump on eBay and see what it's worth now. It added up to a nice mid-size car, or one heck of a deposit on a house. The bubble has to burst eventually, I'd cash in now.

Sounds cool. Let us know how it goes when you have fiddled around a bit more. What size screen are you using it on out of curiosity?

What I wanted to know is, has anyone sold off all their old consoles/games and regretted it? Which ones and why? When the PlayStation came out I sold Donkey Kong Country (as I'd beat it) to my cousin for a tenner. Many years later I wanted to buy it again but not for the going price, it's now even more expensive. And that's why I use a flash cart, and hoard all the games I got super cheap in the late 90's.

Sounds cool. Let us know how it goes when you have fiddled around a bit more. What size screen are you using it on out of curiosity? 55" Straight away I can tell you I was right to never have bought an OSSC, I would have had my nose in those settings constantly. Thank God this thing just has selectable profiles. That being said... after days of tinkering and experimenting, I have to confess, I don't think I'm honestly able to tell the difference between the dedicated console profiles and the brilliant generic 4:3 profile. Maybe a tiny bit if I was properly staring at it, but in gameplay absolutely not. For me it's not really worth the effort of scrolling through and selecting the right one. I've also spent more time than I care to admit messing with the resolution settings, namely figuring out how to deal with my mix of PAL and NTSC content. Turns out 1200p is a great option as it is an integer scale for NTSC games and most PAL games. If you want a "set and forget" option and your TV supports it, 1200p is the way to go, with the various 1080p options useful for different amounts of overscan/zoom. (There's no real need to use 1080p UNDER with a 1200p compatible TV.) The standout thing though is the fancy scanline effects. In person these are really, really convincing, so much better than the standard horizontal lines you normally get. Highly recommended.

Main nitpick is I wish I could remove some unwanted resolution and scanline options from the shortcut button cycle. It takes a while to go through them and there's only 2-3 options I'm ever going to select from

Sounds good, less fiddling and just working put of the box is always a bonus and I believe it covers pretty much all input types (bar RF which we don't talk about...). Never really thought about the scanlines options but I suppose they will be one variable to fiddle with, just want my 32bit plus consoles working nicely on a prospective 4K OLED (55-65 size). I may have to see if any of my machines lack an RGB SCART (the original Xbox being one I cannot remember if I sued the original supplied cable or upgraded it like I usually do, as far as I remember Saturn was pretty much the only console with RGB SCART in the box)

Original Xbox would be a candidate for a component cable upgrade.
I'd definitely recommend using some sort of scanline / filter for use with your 32bit systems at least and anything older you might plug in. The best thing I can say about them is after a few moments you completely forget they're there, just in the background quietly cleaning up the low res image. Aperture 1 works best in my setup.
Heh speaking of RF I still have my 2600 hooked up via RF. It's funny to me that my TV natively supports RF and HDMI exclusively with nothing in between

Think I just secured myself an original Xbox, still got my splinter cell disk and a memory card luckily from when I owned one myself.

Is this the sort of thing I'd need to hook an Intellivision up? Other consoles like Atari 7800 and Master System have worked out of the box - with a shitty picture mind - but I'm buggered if I can get the Inty to do anything.

Is the problem that the Intellivision is RF only? If so then no, I can't think of any scalar that takes an RF input. I think you're options are either use a TV that has an arial and can tune to it or mod the console

My Super Console Pro X arrived a couple of weeks ago. It’s decent
Unfortunately two of my favourite games, Outrun and Shinobi, don’t load. Disappointing ratio as I’ve only checked about 10 games so far as been really busy
I did complete Altered Beast, which I have never done before, it’s still a crock of shit but a loveable one

There are a few versions of Mame on the box, and some games boot with the wrong version.

Yeah if it's MAME, either try a different core or make sure you source a ROM that matches the version you're trying to run.

That's a much fancier collection than mine, but also a lot bulkier. I have a couple of Atari Lynx and a nearly complete collection as well as a NeoGeo Pocket plus most games - but they don't take up that much space.
I can't part with my C64, Spectrum, NES or 2600 but I've sold already the Megadrive, SNES and PS1 because they're easy to emulate on Pi+, but I still have everything above that (N64/GC/Wii/PS2/PS3).
I think it's time to get my portables out of the attic and onto eBay before the demographic shifts to people buying Nokia phones for nostalgia purposes.

Funnily enough, I recently bought a loose copy of Drilldozer and am now thinking about getting a re-shelled GBA...

Yay, (my) MD fave Gynoug for Switch/Xbox/PS. Well, really it's middling with some really good basses but occasionally empty parts. But it looks glorious, and the soundtrack... Just listen the intro music until the guy starts. Same price point as last week's Gley Lancer so a no-brainer for me.

After modernising my ps2 I'm set to do my dreamcast next, seen the simple disk tray to sd card swap for £35 and I have the v1 model needed. Also they had a hdmi converter, I got a crt as well so no need for an expensive option. Anyone used similar and recommend it? kaicolabs.com/product/sega-dreamcast-hdmi-display-adaptor/
