I suppose there is the upshot of Todd Howards' mouth being closed for another day.

Which event was it where Dale fainted and got to the front of the queue, then miraculously recovered?

Aw man, I'm still looking forward to Elder Scrolls VI and especially Starfield. Have no idea how Starfield will ultimately play, but open space RPG sounds entirely like my kind of thing.

I enjoyed the hype when I was younger, but the Nintendo Directs had pretty much killed my excitment for E3 after a year or two of their existence. But at least significant things actually got announced at E3...

E3's been shit for a while but I'll honestly miss it. It was just nice to have a dedicated week where you knew all the big players would show up and try one upping each other. Plus have all the other games to look at too. And tiresome as it was, there was at least some humanity in those painfully awkward moments, blunders like Don Matrick telling people to just buy a 360 and of course, Ubisofts annual Just Dance parties.

I won't miss it. Other than MS and Bethesda I never watched any of it and even then I mostly skipped over the arsehole waving their arms about on stage bit and jumped straight to the videos.

My favourite bit was staying up late to watch the conferences and finding them anti-climatic nearly every time. Well worth not getting enough sleep for.

I usually watched stuff that was on at a reasonable hour and immediately regretted it (apart from the batshit Ubisoft dance which was always worth it) Anything that was on in the early hours just got skimmed through the following morning while thinking "I'm glad I didn't stay up for this shit!"

I genuinely used to enjoy it, not because it was ever very βgoodβ, but simply because it was about video games and I like them.
It added to the sense of community I get from places like here (the forum).
Iβm a simple soul.

As far as I can remember, the only noteworthy thing to come out of a recent E3 was "You're breath-taking!" in 2019. And that went sideways pretty fast when 2077 was released.

I retract my statement somewhat. As dull as they actually are, I did still get somewhat excited by them and I'll miss staying up late to watch them.
I don't think I wanna watch whatever the game awards guy tries to take over it with. Not a fan of the game awards show generally.

E3 going is a great shame.
I loved watching it all, sure, loads of guff has always been included. But having a few days of the year where you know lots of gaming news was coming has always been something to look forward to.
As for announcements Ffvii remake in the same presentation as shenmue 3 was a really awesome showcase!

I like how Kotakus' latest article is titled "E3 Says It's Coming Back In 2023" whereas the tab for that page reads "E3 Thinks It's Coming Back In 2023". Probably not deliberate on their part, presumably evidence of a change before they hit publish, but it mildly amused me given the subject.

I keep misreading this thread title as "Eh 2022 cancelled" and nodding in agreement.

Despite hating the comical crowd screaming and cheering at every sentence and gameplayless trailers, I'll miss it. Was great to get excited for concentrated bursts of new game news , even if so much of the content was wank. Also, the unpredictability of the Nintendo presentations which could be utter comical cringe or awesomeness.

It might be gone this year, but it still lives on in spirit. This month still has all the announcements being made in a fairly contained time period, even if it isn't under the E3 umbrella. As an outside observer rather than a journalist or industry person going to these things, it basically amounts to the same thing.
Sounds as if there isn't going to be much to get excited about though. Geoff Keighley himself has said people shouldn't be getting too excited about big announcements. Also saw Katherine Castle of RPS saying that unless there are things being kept very well hidden, 2022 gaming calendar is going to have very slim pickings for big names.
Probably to be expected given the past couple of years developers have had.

Curious to see what ends up in the Xbox + Bethesda showcase, and I'll probably watch the summer games fest tomorrow, but yeah, not expecting much at all this year in terms of mic drop moments.

Yeah, and when a hype merchant like Keighley says you shouldn't get your hopes up, you know you're in for a damp squib of an event.
It does seem to be a common theme at the moment, in fairness - for instance, Capcom have announced a showcase for next week, but the accompanying blurb made it clear that only games about which we already know will be featured. Unless they unveil Dragon's Dogma 2 at Keighley's shindig and go into more detail on Monday, we can probably keep our expectations low for that one as well.

Yeah , if Doritospope isnβt hyping then expect a turd. Although hopefully just means less AAAAA+++++ trash and some B+ or whatever interesting stuff.

I'll miss it. I know it's not officially over yet but the writing is on the wall and has been for some time.
The Nintendo and Sony directs do the same thing I admit and are much easier and less risky to produce so I can't blame them, but from crazy moments like the FFVII & Shenmue 3 conference, to utter car crashes like Xbone, there is something to be said for a live show in front of a room of pissed off/excitable nerds.
Remember not long ago when some cinemas started showing it live? I can't see that happening for a random State of Play or whatever the Xbox one is called
