Shame - used to really look forward to E3. Some years a few of us even got together with a few beers to watch the main conferences.
If the big three aren't going they're best off just putting it in the bin.

I thought the PC Show had lots of interesting looking games...
The skits were annoying though.

I get that they get more views if they do their own directs or whatever, but when you're selling consoles as fast as you can make 'em, just spend the couple million on a booth and show whatever you have at that point.

Aren't Microsoft doing their own show next door at the same time?

I miss the E3 of old in a way - felt like an occasion you could look forward to (and inevitably be disappointed by) every year.
A Christmas, of sorts.

From what I hear they don't have a lot to show off especially as the new AC game Mirage has been delayed, possibly into next year.

When I used to work in the states we used to do Vegas trade shows and they are brutally expensive. You have to rent a booth, get a stand made and on top of that you couldnt bring anything really. You had to rent plants at extortionate prices etc, had to get them to lay your carpets at their costs. It was an absolutely massive outlay even for our little stand. There just isnt really anything for companies to gain from an in person E3 when they can just do it online for a fraction of the cost.

From what I hear they don't have a lot to show off especially as the new AC game Mirage has been delayed, possibly into next year. Back in February, Yves Guillemot said, "If E3 happens, we will be there, and we will have a lot of things to show"; however, I wouldn't trust that guy as far as I could throw him.
So, yeah. You could be right!
It looks as though this year's E3 will be more of a final hurrah than a glorious comeback, if it takes place at all.

Reedpop have shown they are morally bankrupt enough to go ahead with a show with fuck all there so I would expect this to go ahead.

Was that the one in early 2021 where a lot of publishers and Devs obviously didn't turn up because of Covid and they had fuck all that was new and people had bought like 3 day access and saw everything in like 30mins?

Being replaced by Rachel, she will be doing that same job for 60 percent of the money.

With everyone dropping out, the “3” in E3 might stand for total number of games shown.

While the death of E3 was expected at this point, I must say that Gamescom hasn't seen a similar level of abandonment by publishers (yet). I wonder why.

It lasted 28 years. It was a good run.
But admittedly, nobody cared anymore. There are other shows nowadays. TGS, Gamescom, that Geoff Keighley thing...

The industry moved on and E3 didn't, the writing was on the wall when Nintendo made the decision to move to Directs and they lost nothing of value doing so. I'll miss it but when you have games being announced whenever now it just doesn't make any sense, it still lives on in spirit but the event is dead.

To be fair, it wouldn't be the same vibe with GiantBomb given Jeff, Vinny, Brad, Alex, Abby etc all left.
Think a lot of companies just see they can produce their own virtual presentation that's cheaper, that they can schedule for themselves whenever and has all the eyes of the world on them and their announcements.

I do think the way everyone has their own streams now makes it impossible to keep up with what is going on. The condensed nature of E3 meant you knew where to be to hear what was coming. The summer months are basically non-stop streams and announcements that it is now impossible to keep up with it.
It is a shame, but I guess that also reflects how big the industry is now. It is so massive that there isn't really anyway for individuals to know everything that is happening, unless it is your job to do so.

Ive done (much) smaller scale trade shows before and they are *such* a waste of money. I cant imagine how anyone could justify the cost of exhibiting at E3 when, y'know, youtube is free.

Yeah, E3 made sense when you wanted to get your games promoted in printed media and on the TV. Not now when any idiot can publish information to millions in seconds.
