Where from, out of interest? --- My hype for the Steam Deck is gradually building as I get closer to possibly getting the order e-mail. Going by the steam deck estimate calculator, I'll be due to get the e-mail on 25 April. I know to take that with a pinch of salt, but going by (a) the rT reserve time code and (b) cross-checking that against those on Reddit who claim to have had their order e-mail, the end of this month sounds about right. FWIW I ordered the 512GB from UK at 18:29 on the day (not for a lack of trying earlier!). It's mad that reservations within the first half-hour aren't fulfilled nine months down the line. I had the same estimate for the 256GB model that I reserved at 18:15 on the day. Just got my email and completed the purchase now, 11 days early 🥳 ...I'd say that the distribution is ramping up I bet you have mixed feelings about the long easter weekend right now.

My email time was 18:18 and 18:15 within it for a 512GB, but no email yet that I can see.

Got my confirmation today for 512 US, I was around the 15 minute mark for my deposit. Was feeling a little on the fence as I reckon there’s a SD2 already in active development for next year or so with lessons learned, but then I also got a nice bonus from work so fuck it.

Looks like people have a 40hz refresh rate running on Windows - that should make it much easier to hit a consistent frame rate at a higher rate than 30 without needing to go all the way to 60.

It’s mostly accepting Valve’s history regarding what are effectively test products to break new ground and test the waters. Steam controller, Steam link, Steam machines etc, all products that were admirable in themselves but came with problems, but ultimately led to better iterations later, usually in a different format. Index is notably different from that though, so we’ll see.

So far I got most stuff working at 60fps. Finally managed to install the Epic Launcher, so got to try out Control. Got that running at 60 most of the time, with dips to 50 fps. 960x540 but upscaled using the build-in FSR.

I am hoping getting my GOG stuff working isn't too challenging as I prioritised it over Steam a lot.
At least until we have drivers and a dual boot. In the hope o getting my notification soon I have ordered a 512GB SD to go with my 512GB NVME.

the 256 is 16:30 mins along Is it? Even worst case I ordered at 16:25, and I still don't have an email. EDIT - Oh I see, 16 minutes 30 seconds. Yeah gonna be a while. Wow the UK is really eating shit on this huh? The EU is ridiculously ahead and the US is also significantly ahead. I wonder what the issue is?

I slept on the decision and ordered the morning after it went live. End of October for me, exactly when our baby arrives lol
Maybe it's a blessing in disguise?

Pretty (very!) slow overall compared to other cards, but will be fine for stuff like ROMs etc.

They are being shipped from Netherlands, so extra paperwork compared to shipping within EU I'm skeptical even Brexit can explain that level of difference - esp. as the US and UK are much closer than EU and UK. I suspect demand in the UK might have been relatively higher though.

(skipping thread, sorry)
So, has anyone here actually had one for a few months? If so, I'm just wondering how much use it's still getting?
I'm torn on whether it's the kind of thing I'd (a) use all the time, or (b) love for 3 weeks and then barely touch.

The UK 512 waiting list is still only 13 mins 17 seconds along.
That calculator shows me as late June now!

The wifies are acceptable on this btw, tops out around 75MB/s which let’s you fill up 512GB in a little less than 2 hours. GTA5 took about 20 minutes.

Yeah, on that queue checking site my order time/unit brings an estimate of late July on UK and next week on EU.

First weekend with the Deck and initial impressions good.
PS3 era games like Fallout 3 look beautiful on the screen. Couple of games needed to switch proton compatibility level. Feels like and good in the hands though. Screen feels bigger (although I know actual screen size is about same as switch) and the sound is much better. Although the fan can get loud. Controls feels good for the most part, the trackpads can be jumpy and the rear buttons I find harder and less natural to press than say the trigger or bumper buttons.
So far I've only managed to install older dosbox games via Lutris. Control Ultimate Edition from GOG looked like it had, but think I cancelled it before very last step. Once you do install and link to Steam then starting non-Steam games is easy

Mine has so far become a next gen PS Vita. Persona 4 Golden, Yakuza games and PSX emulation. Tried a couple of more demanding games on it and they worked spectacularly though. Even some that are marked as “not working” still seem to work fine.
