I wouldn't be surprised if it's dlc.

Weird how no reviews mention bugs being an issue. Is this going to be a tweet someone writes in the heat of the moment and ends up regretting?
We’ve all been there but sometimes best to write things out and not publish.

I've not noticed any bugs personally, not played it fully yet though. I have no regrets tbh (Ice Cap Zone music not withstanding, but they had been fully open about that).

So what's the state of the Sonic collection? Is it buggy?
There's a lot of hits for the story about the dev saying the bugs are Sega's fault but nothing really about it actually being buggy

I've played a fair bit and I've not noticed any bugs tbh, seems pretty solid.

Digital Foundry posted a video which includes a few of the bugs. More annoying than game breaking and i think some will be design choices rather than bugs... youtu.be/kas9IbqvJggSo does Sonic Frontiers have a hub world then the normal Sonic levels? youtu.be/anvWQgbQSuw

I knew they'd fuck the collection up.
All I wanted was a collection similar to Sonic Jam that I could play on modern consoles - all the good Sonic games in one place with original graphics and music. That's it. I was even fine with the price.
Sonic Team aren't even a shadow of what they used to be. This is the company that made Nights, Phantasy Star Online, Burning Rangers and Samba de Amigo.
Bah.

Just remembering why I've never actually finished Sonic CD. It's really just a bit shit.
Level design is just a bit of a mess, it lacks the flow that the best Sonic games have. And the time traveling mechanic is a bit tedious - find post, try to find somewhere in the messy level design to get up to speed, then have a time travel cut scene that totally kills momentum.
It just doesn't play to what makes Sonic games fun. Sonic 2 and 3+K blow it out of the water.
Hell I even think Sonic 1 is better, for the most part.

That's interesting because I hear this a lot about Sonic CD ever since it came into many people hands. It was always deemed as some amazing game because it was on a system that no one had now it's seen as quite a bad Sonic game.

It's shite. Comfortably the worst in the collection pack. I couldn't wait for it to be over.

That sounds very true. Must folks didn't play it when it was released, but it does highly in reviews and the screenshots looked good.
I know that I'd wanted to play it for years. When I finally got the chance, via the Sonic Gems collection on the PS2, I was pretty underwhelmed.
I've not played it again until this week, and I'm still underwhelmed.

Then again my favourite game in the series is the one that came built in to the Master System, so what do I know.

My favourite Sonic game is the first one on the Master System too. I still hum the jungle theme as I walk about today. I had a motorbike game built into mine (Hang On?), and to my knowledge I've never met anyone else who had to actually buy Alex (the) Kidd in real life.

I never liked Sonic Cd, but then my favorite game in the series is SA2, so my opinion doesn't count for much.
I remember having a bit of fun with the Advance games though. How comes they are never putting those in a collection?

How comes they are never putting those in a collection? I did a quick search on that, actually. Maybe because THQ went bankrupt and was basically split and bought up by multiple companies, there's issues with publishing rights?

Looks like most Sonic games are available through backwards compatibility on Xbox; opinions on which of the 3D games are worth playing, if any?

Careful on Colours if it's the Ultimate version, I remember it getting a lot of shit thrown its way for glitches and I'm not sure how it runs currently. Apart from that it's a nice game.
Generations I'd say is another easy pick, and if you can work with the Werehog stages in Unleashed then that as well.

Generations and yes Sonic Unleashed.
Both really benefit on Series X as well.

I still can't say I noticed many bugs in the games. I think I noticed one sprite incorrectly coloured on a boss fight and that was it really. I'm not saying the bugs don't exist, but I'm finding the hardcore fan reaction a bit hyperbolic.

I still think SA2 is a good game even today, if you can adapt to its controls. I wish Sega would one day remake the game, if only to fix the controls. It's one of the most fondly remembered entries, after all, so it could actually happen (and maybe the next movie could be the impetus they need). Generations is okay, but the modern stages are almost rhythm games in how little agency you actually have.
On a side note, Generations does look amazing at 1440p and 60fps even on Series S.

The only one I genuinely noticed was in S3&K Hydrocity where you can't jump high enough from a certain moving platform to reach a Special Stage ring. It was more a slight inconvenience than anything else. Didn't spot anything else though.

Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 have small moments, mainly the bits you play as Sonic and Shadow.
Unfortunately two thirds of those games is playing as Big the Cat, Amy and some daft robot among other embarassing side characters who have the charisma of a wet carrot. Their gameplay sections are even worse.

Their gameplay sections are even worse. The only one whose sections I genuinely disliked was Big, to be honest. Sure he factors into the story (somehow...) but even Knuckles and Rouge didn't make me feel like I was playing an entirely different game. Didn't help that the fishing line seemed to be frustrating and glitchy as all hell... Cracking soundtrack though, especially Adventure 2. I still find myself randomly humming tracks like Mission Street, Green Forest and Pumpkin Hill sometimes. Sonic in general rarely disappoints in the music department, even if everything else about the game is trash you'll likely find at least a few decent tracks in the OST somewhere. Well, except Sonic Chronicles, but that one's music fell victim to a host of development issues, some remasters of it sound legitimately very good.

Fair points, can't really argue them.
My only explanation is that I play Sonic to go fast - that's the main appeal for me.
Collecting emeralds with Knuckles/Rouge or finding animals and shooting things with E-102 just aren't my cup of tea. Don't think they're particularly well designed mechanically either.
