The Smile album that just came out, with Thom and Jonny, is quite good too.

I’ve got all their albums. Only bad one is their first one.

Hail To The Thief and Amnesiac are the only albums that for some reason I can't get myself to listen to. Even the re-release album Kid A Mnesia I turned off when Kid A finished.

I prefer Amnesiac to Kid A. I thought I was the only one. The only reason I doubt myself is because Kid A has no songs I skip, whereas I’m only in the mood for Pulk/Pull about 0.7% of the time, and Morning Bell/Amnesiac is an abomination.

Though it is interesting as a rare example of a song released in two different time signatures. Only other one I can think of is the theme tune from The Bill, which, like Morning Bell, also went to shit when they switched it to 4/4.

I still remember buying OK Computer in Warrington when I started working there in 1997. I didn’t actually buy their next 4 until well after they came out though, probably 2010, so I’m not a proper fan

Anything past The Bends, I really have to be in the mood. Down already? Nope, I'll be onto the doc the next day. Happy? Hell no, utter buzzkill. Neutral? Maybe. Big maybe, but perhaps. In an absolute pit? Gimme Kid A, Insomniac or Amnesiac and I'll wallow like fuck.
Ok Computer is somewhere in the middle of all that

Absolutely loving The Smile's album, it's easily the best of the Radiohead side projects.

Agree about those songs and I'm also not a fan of the album version of Like Spinning Plates. All three of those tracks have better alternate versions on the Kid Amnesiae bonus disc. I swapped those tracks over and it really improved the album for me.

I hated the album version of Like Spinning Plates until I heard the live version. Going back to it after knowing how it worked ‘deconstructed’ made it make a lot more sense to me and now I love it. Hearing the piano version made the melody in the glitch fest version come to the fore, and the whole sound feels like a claustrophobic horror show, which I guess is the point.

Ok Computer is somewhere in the middle of all that Street Spirit is way more of a buzzkill than anything on OK Computer. And In Rainbows and AMSP are pretty happy. By Radiohead standards at least.

I have a theory that post Kid A Radiohead is the equivalent of our generation’s post Rubber Soul Beatles.

At the height of their popularity I was well into techno and house, but now I have 7 of their songs in my spotify playlist. High And Dry is my current favourite track.

I don’t think I’ve ever got through all of King of Limbs or Moon Shaped Pool, if I have them I have no memory of most of the songs on them. In Rainbows if the last one that I liked most of the album.

Yeah, I think if you don’t have that live album (“i might be wrong” I think it’s called) you’re missing out.

King of Limbs was shite.
Their run from The Bends to In Rainbows is nothing short of astonishing - I can only think of Outkast, Sonic Youth, Beatles, Pavement and Zeppelin with a discography that strong and consistent (from what I listen to anyway, sure there's more).
