Played the first couple of campaign missions for The Settlers: New Allies. The water does look nice though. I'm a hopeless conservative when it comes to these kinds of games. I remember watching a friend play quite a bit of Settlers 2, but personally it really clicked for me with Knights & Merchants and whenever I try something like Settlers 3 or Pioneers of Pagonia, they always end up feeling underwhelming in comparison. Mostly just because of the aesthetics and some key things like having to actually build roads in K&M, which somehow helps define a settlement better for me. Playing the demo of Pioneers felt like I was just putting down buildings somewhat willy-nilly. Even if the gameplay was probably partially down to it being a demo, I still felt that it lacked clarity in comparison.

Fucking RADAGON! Ahem. Sorry - I felt a need to vent that somewhere. Stupid Gwyn/Soul of Cinder wannabe, with his stupid holy magic, and his stupid mace, and his stupid AOE bullshit, and his stupid delayed attacks, and his stupid face. A pox on his house!

It's a good thing that he's definitely the final boss, nothing to fight straight afterwards with no rest in between.

Settlers 3 was one of the few games I had and could get to run well when it came out, and the map editor that came with it extended the value for me quite a bit. Remember thinking 4 was a disappointment by comparison.

Heh. No surprise to me - this is a NG+ run! - but I'm burning through my flasks at a rate of knots, and going into the
Elden Beast fight with next to nothing left. As much as I don't want to use a Spirit Ash, which I did in NG, I may have to.

Having fun with fallout tactics.
Mission 7, beastlord HQ. What this game does very right is to keep throwing unique enemies at you. On a 7th mission out of 23 and its constantly new threats. It does amp number of enemies but going from fighting simple raiders, to beastlords with their animal companions, and fighting wildlife makes it much more interesting than just guys with better weapons and guns.
And it will get more interesting later on.

How long do these missions last on average? I'd assume they are getting longer as you progress?

COD: MW2 (the newer one)
S'alright, but it's a bit too HOO-RAH! for me. About a 3rd of the way through and I think I'm playing it to complete it rather than playing it to enjoy it.

Finished Animal Well (first ending) and now going on a backlog mission.
First up is Disco Elysium, think I'm pretty near the end. I definitely messed up a lot of stuff on my journey through this, but maybe that's half the point of the game! Truly a one of a kind experience but I did find it pretty slow moving and it didn't keep me coming back originally, clearly. It's very well put together indeed though and will stick in the mind for a long time to come.
After that I think it's time for FF7 remake or a Witcher 3 expansion...

I bought that in the Steam sale last year. I really need to get back to it!

I bought Black Mesa too in a recent sale with the intention of enjoying Half Life "as I remember it" on Steam Deck. Turns out it performs abysmally on the Deck and I was better off just playing the original version

"Small tinkering to get this going and then perfectly playable. Tinker Steps: Custom Proton: GE, Set launch options -oldgameui Graphics: Other Default main menu flickers. Changing to old main menu fixed this Performance: Slight Performance Problems 60hz refresh rate targeting 60fps led to slowdowns in some places of the game, specifically Surface Tension. Changed to 40hz targeting 40fps fixed this. Do not play on native, instead use ProtonGE (I used 7-31). Set launch command -oldgameui to get rid of default game menu flickering. Even with Proton the game drops in framerate on the steam deck in some parts of the game, specifically in big open areas like Surface Tension. Set the refresh rate to 40hz and cap the frame rate at 40fps (which happens by default). Doing all this, the game is an absolute joy to play on the steam deck."
I also have it on Deck. Might give this a whirl.

Is movement in Black Mesa as fast as in Half Life?
I half really want to try Black Mesa, and the other half feel like I should avoid it because it's not gonna be what I remember Half Life being.

I think if you loved HL1 BM should be played at least the free version.

On the other hand, I find it extremely close to hl1. It's only the Xen bit that's different, and when I say different, it's much better.

It does add a lot of new scenes, even if the basic map is more or less the same. I really liked it, but the original is still superlative for me. Some of the additions in Black Mesa do occasionally feel like filler.

I think they become more commonplace later on (before Xen, that is). It's been a while though. My memories might not be that accurate.

On the rail was very different i think. So was the office fight. It clearly has soul and looks of hl1. Just it stands on its own as seperate game. Edit So fallout tactics It's silly how many people and other enemies you kill in this game. So far my main character by mission 7 killed 140 enemies or so. And the team is not far behind with each over 90-120. Game counts So we slaughtered like 600 enemies so far including animals. But towns populations is around 40 people top based on signs in maps lparchive.org/Fallout-Tactics-Brotherhood-of-Steel/Update%2020/1-BOS_2014-11-19_18-11-37-976.jpgSo I am depopulating wastelands which fight really hard to survive. I think we are the bad guys.

I looked up Black Mesa on steam, and looking at the screenshots my first thought was 'It looks exactly like I remember it!'
Though I then realised what it looks exactly like is how I remember HL2, not HL1.

Yeah, although recently I feel like I'm spending most of my time replaying games I've already played, or rewatching movies I've already watched, and then I feel guilty for not trying anything new.
It's not my fault all the best games are getting remasters/remakes recently!

Apparently, it's nostalgia that hits you as you're getting old, at least that's my excuse!

For me I jumped earlier in the year straight into nostalgia, by replaying Nox.
Around the same time as my second kid was born.
The familiarity, the throwback to elementary school when life was simple and future not scary...
I needed that when real life was overwhelming and future unknown.

I think my memory must be playing tricks on me too, as I keep expecting certain areas coming up, only to realise they're off hl2! Never get old, guys.

It's not my fault all the best games are getting remasters/remakes recently! Yep that's me. I play about 30 hours of a new game, then get incredibly bored. Older games just knew how to keep my attention for longer periods. Now I want to continue my save of HL2...
