I loved it in multiplayer. Used to play it online together with my brother as marines, always covering each other's ass, he with the pulse rifle watching out for drones and I with the shotgun killing the pesky huggers and snakes.
We also played it on LAN parties, and it was always a blast. The asymmetry between humans, aliens and the predator lead to many memorable games. And it also had quite a few fan-made multiplayer maps.
I still remember during one of the lifecycle enabled matches when one of the alien players finally reached their kill count and then mutated into an alien queen they were so ecstatic, BUT. It was below some kind of ramp, and because the queen had a much larger collision box, they couldn't get out from under that ramp anymore and thus became a sitting duck.

The singleplayer was really cool at the time, with the overlapping perspectives of the 3 protagonists. Although I think I slightly preferred AVP1. Not sure why, maybe just the novelty of being first.

Now that Darkest Dungeon 2 is on Switch, I've been... playing a whole lot of that.
It's great! I probably prefer the first one slightly more, but they're so different that it's difficult to compare them in that way.

I have finally, finally got around to playing Prey's Mooncrash DLC. Seems good so far but only an hour in so early days. Looking forward to see how the systems mesh and hoping that SkillUp was right about it being similar to but a lot better than Deathloop, which I didn't like at all.

Fallout tactics.
So my ghoul reached level 12 allowing me to mutate his radiation perk out. So no more poisoning my team.
His perception is 14. That means he has massive range and his critical hits are really painful.
So in a mission where I got another car he was my main killer.
Would drive up the road, engage super mutants from range they cannot really hit him, and then snipe them to either death or for them to get closer.
If close he would retreat
So supermutants would either die or reach position where my other 5 guys could snipe them.
Little cheesy, but so satisfying.

God of War (2018)
I bought this a while ago to play on my Steam Deck and dropped it after an hour or so.
Picked it up again last night and I think I realise why now. The RE4 Leon over-shoulder camera and tank controls are a strange fit with the combat. I want to dart around, but Kratos can only attack in front of him which is constraining. The enemies are also quite spongy so combat basically becomes dodge, whack, whack, whack, whack, dodge, etc.
I'm inclined to persist for a bit longer given the hype for the game. But my partner saw me playing and said "Oh that looks like the game with the girl with the braids and metal dinosaurs." Which is a telling comment on how generic Sony exclusives can be even to onlookers. I abandoned Horizon as well ;/

That game probably holds the record for most chances given before it finally clicked with me. Played it once at launch and got as far as a certain characters house then just couldn't be arsed. Same thing the second time.
Played it a third time and finally stuck with it and ended up absolutely loving it. Combat is definitely an acquired taste though.

God of War is the most over-rated of the Sony franchises IMO. I tried to replay GOW (2018) when the 60fps update dropped, but I got about 2 hours in and gave up, I just couldn't bring myself to do it all again. Once you know the story, you realise the gameplay is quite shallow and doesn't hold much appeal. The story sections then just serve to irritate you as you are made to stop while the game delivers lots of dialogue.
And don't get me started on Ragnarok. I finished that about a month ago and thought it didn't live up to the hype. Mostly found it a chore to get through. The ending was super disappointing too which ended with a whimper. I expected some major battles and epicness, but it all fell flat. GOW3 was more epic and that is a game from 2010
After playing Ragnarok it made me just want to replay the original trilogy of games. Now these were from a time when developers concentrated on gameplay first, story second. Amazing experiences, especially GOW 2 & 3 (1st was ok but quite janky by todays standards)

Kids (who are into transformers and dinosaurs) games update:
- Transformers Earthspark: Expedition. Initially seemed surprisingly decent. 3rd person combat with a semi open-world (3 small ones actually) where you have to punch enemies and fight bosses. Each area has you doing missions to 'liberate' the area so you can take on the final boss, and doing a bunch of side combat/race quests to level up. Being able to transform into a car at any time, with the requisite transformation sound, is a plus. Kid initially loved it, but eventually got bored of its repetitive nature. You can level Bumblebee up and get some new moves, but it's basically the same punching over and over. It feels like there could have been a decent game there, but it was pushed out without much polish or depth.
- Jurassic World Evolution. This has taken over as his obsession. Tbf, it looks pretty great. I remember it not getting great reviews, but it seems pretty slick to me. It's basically Rollercoaster Tycoon but with Dinosaurs. The graphics look lovely (this is #1, so I guess #2 probably looks even nicer). The UI is probably very simplified compared to older Park Tycoon games, but it doesn't seem to hamper getting to the important stuff. Interesting balance of researching new dinos, building pens, building stuff to attract and fleece tourists, and dealing with situations where dinosaurs break out and eat said tourists. Limited but nice first-person views for driving, tranquing escaped dinos, etc.. Personally, I'd be quite happy watching the sunset with the beach and a bunch of brontosauruses and triceratops.
- Fall Guys (no E-suffix) Kids haven't played this for over a year, but seem to have gotten back into it as a summer hols game. They seem to have added a massive amount of levels since I last played it. Still controller-smash inducing at times though.

Jeanne d'Arc
This is really rather good, never played the original on the PSP but heard lots of positive stuff about it. It can downloaded for free if you have whatever the PSPlus tier is that gives you playstation classics access.
If you like Final Fantasy Tactics you'll be familiar with the gameplay, the story is very loosely based around Joan of Arc with some very typical JRPG strangeness.
I love binding skills and stat boosts to create news skills and better improved stat boosts, it's a shame it takes a while before it let's you do it.
I think it also looks quite nice for a PSP game, well worth checking out if you're after something a bit different.
Not sure how far I've got to go but it's a strong 8/10 from a me at the moment.

Yeah, it's a good game. Quite simple for the genre if I remember but I enjoyed it. With that, Tactics Ogre, FF Tactics War of the Lions and a million Disgaea-like games, the PSP was stacked for great TRPGs

Fallout tactics
Sometimes it's fun to cheese.
6 guys with sniper rifles Vs 100 super mutants with giant machine guns.
Muties got owned
Basically my team stayed out of their effective range just snipping them at high rate.
Cleared whole base like that with ease! Played in real time so just slowly moved my team to range and started to shoot until they died while they constantly missed given how low their perception is.
Easy.

Stomped my way through chapter 1 so far.
Seems ok.

Super Metroid (RG35XX+)
Felt like it was about time for my annual playthrough. It's still an absolute masterpiece.
Kunitsu-Gami (SX)
Pretty good, although obviously pretty thin on content so they push you to replay levels to upgrade stuff. It's quite a satisfying loop if you take your time with it, though. Play a new level and then start repairing the village, then go back and try to clear a couple of challenges on earlier levels.

I have been playing Northern Journey, a first person exploration game that takes place in a semi-open world filled with various creatures out of nordic mythology.
It's made up of maps with multiple interconnections and there is no detailed map for it. Even the abstract map the player is given only gets filled in when enough progress has been made. Most of the maps aren't too complex, but it's still somewhat easy to miss things. Thankfully the questgiver is always willing to help out the player with information on what to do next. Without that I would constantly be lost.
And it is frequently frustrating in spite of that. It's just pretty easy to die and the game has a surprising amount of uncomfortable scenarioes on offer, many different enemy varieties and relatively challenging bosses and many, many opportunities to fall off great heights or into deep water. I have just made my way through Sourwood and past its many giant ticks lurking in trees and at least as many harvestman creepily striding towards me on their way too long legs.
Wonderful landscapes and way, way too many well animated giant insects. It's apparently another one of those insane one-man projects.

Just fired a wee bit into Dungeons of Hinterburg.
Looking forward to getting a bit further into it. Liking the art style so far, but wonder if it will wear thin over time.

I’ve really leaned heavily into the First Descendant. It has a lot of polish straight out of the gate and the devs have been communicative and make good changes quickly. The skills and weapon systems are deep and involved. The grind is real but if you just play, things open up and you can research new gear and characters. I did grind a specific mission 17, yes 17 times today to get the last bit to unlock a descendant (Blair). He’s in the oven now and will be ready tomorrow. I have seven descendants available and didn’t spend a penny to get them. I did buy the battle pass though. Just so I could unlock a haircut for Viessa. It’s a lovely layered cut! TLDR: Warframe with fan service.

Playing Cyberpunk, having been there on day one on PS4 when the impression I was left with at the end was great story, shame about everything else.
My, my, they have done some work. Looks stunning, plays stunning, feels so alive, absolutely loving everything about it. Clearly wasn't meant for the last gen. It's quite hard to pinpoint all the changes, but it feels like literally everything has been made better.
Definitely going to get Phantom Liberty.

At least you can mod it if you want. I hadn't even thought about that. TBH, my only Windows PC isn't up to much for gaming anyway, just an old laptop. It does alright for old stuff, though. I have just found out that my desktop (non-Windows) PC can play lots of Steam stuff in compatibility mode nowadays, however. Because I don't already spend enough time at my desk.

I have so many games on the go at the moment, but I’ve thrown Pikmin 4 into the mix. I’ve always preferred Wii remote controls for the series, but the change in camera really helps the dual analog set up. It still messes with my brain in that I can’t aim and move independently, but I’m doing much better with this than I did with the Pikmin 3 port on Switch.
It goes without saying, but if you have the Wii remote and nunchuck, and a Gamepad on your coffee table, that’s the best way to play the third game. The fourth game seems to have considered this with its refine camera system, though.

What I am playing: After deathloop, I've now dove into Dishonoured 2.
What I am not playing: I did think about Dragon Age Inquisition ultimate massive 'everything in one box' edition since ive never played it and have it free from epic however I can't install it via heroic on steam deck as it still requires the EA app malware. I can sort of get around it with lutris then instal epic then install EA ... fuck no
Tried to play it on pc and while it runs ok on the desktop I cannot use the pad via Steam link because it's old as shit software and you need to click into it first, toggle the pad on and then play.
So much friction so I've fucked it off.

SMT V: Vengeance (SX)
I didn't get very far on SMT V originally on the switch as I found the frame rate and image quality a bit too distracting (yep, I'm one of those cunts) This feels like a huge step up on both regards so far at least, so happy days! Lesson learned to always avoid the initial version of Atlus games (although I'll probably conveniently forget that lesson for Metaphor...)

Pikmin 4
This has been sitting in my backlog for some time, which is criminal given how big a fan of the series I am. I guess I have had some reservations about the controls. I’ve always much preferred the independent movement and aiming controls offers by the Wii and Wii U versions of these games. Instinctively, I want to run one way, whilst throwing my Pikmin in a different direction. An instinct I’ve never been able to shrug and one that has been hard for the developers to implement when the second stick is used to rotate the camera.
Pikmin 4 managed to solve this in a way I didn’t anticipate. Just by lowering the camera angle to behind the player, my brain can now accept the link between moving and aiming. I don’t know why it works, but it does. I’ve had zero issues having to even tolerate the controls and thus, I’ve had an excellent opening few hours.
I have big nostalgia for the epic Wii remote and Gamepad set up of Pikmin 3, but I can see the fourth game becoming my new favourite in the series. It is helped somewhat by the more open-feeling level design, but the mechanics just feel more intuitive and instinctive.
Also, it’s a looker. I genuinely think this is a nicer looking game than Grounded. The latter is technically the better looking game, but somehow this just looks and feels the better of the two. Realistic, but colourful and dynamic, all the same.

I've gone back to Pikmin 4 after you mentioned it. It's rare for me to 100% each level these days and so far that's what I've been doing. I think I briefly stopped because something else came out that grabbed my attention more, but I really should have stuck with this.

I finished it recently and enjoyed it just as much as any other entry in the series.
The 'post-game' stuff is practically as big as the main game and a lot more satisfying and challenging to boot.
