Must be nearing the end of Itorah, but I'm finding that the flaw with having save bonfires in a branching platformer/metroidvania is that if you go the other way you don't find them, which means you can't save.
It's been an issue since the begining, but it was much easier back then so I was less likely to die.
I had what I felt was a really god run last night through the lava temple. Played for about 45 minutes, got past some quite tricky sections to find chests and upgrades, but *could not* find a save bonfire. Finally died through attrition and looked up on youtube, and there was a bonfire just down the other fork from the last fork I picked. Grrr.

Persona 5 Royal Just got to the second palace. Loved P4 on the PS2, mildly enjoyed PS3 and PS(1) on the PSP later, so we will see if the format becomes too stale in this reportedly long game. So far I am enjoying this as there is enough new ideas to keep it feeling fresh, even if the underlying format is the same as ever.
Quake Done with all except the newest episode which is proving a bit more of a challenge. The gameplay is undeniably fantastic still now. I think I even prefer it to all the Doom games now.
V-V The shmup on the go and the Father of Bullet Hell's first shmup. I'm being repeatably brutalized by it.
Shadow Tower Got as far as the Illusion World now. I don't think From software has as much enemy variety as there is in this game till Elden Ring! Once you overcome the obtuse systems then thus game gets its dark claws into you.
On the back burner:
Salt and Sanctuary Bought for less than a pound in a sale and seemed to have stopped it at the second boss. Never liked platformers even if it is Dark Souls. I do intend to return to it so not dropped completely.
Steep Love the skiing and got far enough to unlock Japan but seemed to have stopped playing as the repetition is starting to show. Probably will enjoy it more after a break.

So with fallout tactics completed i need to get new game.
Installed two
Rise of tomb raider Sunless sea.
Tried to play sunless sea and sortof bounced off it. Only 20min playthrough
So got a guy in London to take somewhere. And then I absolutely couldn't figure out how to access that information again. Is that next island where I'm supposed to go?
Also you start with 10 fuel. I moved my ship little to east travelling for few seconds. My fuel is 9. That made me very very agitated. So quickly running out of fuel with so little progress? Is what I'm doing efficient? Should I buy more? How easy is to stock up? I don't know where to go so am I wasting resources by just going randomly?
I'm a hoarder in video games. So using limited resources is always a challenge. Hence in fallout tactics I ended up with dozens of medkits, stimpacks, ammo. In other rpgs, tons of magic scrolls, potions etc.
So going from 10 to 9 in first few minutes just raised alarm bells.
So stopped and played with tomb raider benchmark setting up graphics so it runs smooth.

I only played Sunless Sea for one evening, but that was because it was on a Steam Free Weekend. I keep meaning to go back to it (or sunless skies, which is meant to be improved, but the aesthetic doesn't appeal as much).
iirc the ui and gameplay elements can be a bit odd/unclear at times, but I think the best idea is just to go with it and try stuff and see how it works. It's a pretty slow paced game, but I found it oddly addictive (until the free trial ran out).

Just trying stuff, exploring and learning things worked well enough for a while. The problem was that you had to redo everything everytime after eventually dying and that became tedious quickly. Not sure how Sunless Sea compares in that respect.

When I had a big weekend binge of Sunless Sea a few years ago I found the easiest way to play was to accept that you make almost no progress with any individual run but you just need to grind through lives and essentially play it as a game of attrition.
It would be nice if it explained literally anything about what you’re meant to do. In the moments when it clicks it can be very good. I didn’t have the patience but I suspect its the sort of game that really opens up its wonders after the 400th hour of smashing you ships (face) against the rocks (screen).

Oh cheers.
Thank you all. That really cleared stuff up. Not a game for me whatsoever.
I don't have time nor energy to play games like that.
So RoTR it is.

It is a "generational" game. You will die a lot and learn the game this way. I also bounced off it very hard in the beginning because of how limited fuel is and how little exploration you can do with the starting equipment. But if you persevere, you learn about places where you can buy fuel for good prices and sell other stuff for good money, so you start developing island hopping treks that can bring you to any part of the sea.
But it will always be a very risky endeavour to explore a new region. Might either run out of fuel (which doesn't have to be the end immediately, but often is), or run into something that will just rip your boat apart. All dangers are quite territorial, though, so even that will be knowledge that you can build into your routes (there be dragons, basically). This is actually an essential part of what makes the game special, in my opinion. The dread when you're getting low on fuel and have to take a shortcut through a risky region to make it to a port that sells some more.
After accepting all that and adjusting my gameplay, I really started to like the game. It has some cool stories hidden on the different islands. And later on you manage to have children and can then inherit your stuff to them when you die, so you don't have to restart completely at zero anymore.

I really like Sunless Sea. The writing and exploration are great, but it's certainly an odd one. A lot of the mechanics are strange, the presentation is strange, and it often feels like it's a bit haphazardly put together. Once you figure out some of the early stuff and can write wills to save resources if/when a captain dies it gets a lot less punishing, but I totally understand that many bounce off it way before then.

Having seen it on offer, I've opted to get Ace Combat 7 for about £15.

Rise of the tomb raider
Haha. They really are "let's torture lara" games.
First 15min and whole mountain tries to kill her, she gets shot, blown up, and thrown from another mountain.
Poor Lara.

Oh, it's an Epic stealth release.

Even though I technically finished it, I am still playing Pikmin 4 due to the extremely generous amount of post-game content. Seriously, my playtime has almost doubled at 40 hours. There’s a few more areas that offer more of a challenge, a whole extra side mission for fans of the original game, and then some seriously challenging dandori levels. Honestly, I am not sure how you’d even platinum half of them.
Still amazingly good fun, though some tight areas do expose a wonky lock-on system. I had to restart a few dandori runs due to my Pikmin trying to carry back dead creatures, rather than focus on the ones still alive, trying to kill them.
Still sticking with my perfect score though.

I was confused by just how much extra stuff there is post credits that I just assumed I hadn't actually finished the game and it was just a big fake out.

Have you done the Olimar side quest? I found that a really refreshing change of pace and it made me quite nostalgic for the original game.

Ooh. Though from what I can remember of the original, I dunno how I'd feel about playing it without a mouse.
I wonder if they have a demo...
(edit.. no demo that I can see )
Now I kinda want to play World of Goo 1 on the pc...

Price feels a bit on the steep side for an impulse purchase. £10-£15 and I would've instantly grabbed it based on nostalgia for the original (which was a similar price IIRC)
Seems to have released to very little fanfare, so hopefully it has decent legs/word of mouth.

No legs or mouth, unfortunately
I loved World of Goo. I've not seen any reviews, but I hope the sequel is a proper one that can live up to it.

Not only a nice nostalgic trip, but as you say; refreshing. I would happily replay that down the line as it only took me 3 and half hours and would definitely itch the Pikmin scratch. I did feel a little under pressure towards the end of it, but there wasn’t a need to rush too much. I finished it with 3 days to spare. I’ve done it all now. Found everything there is to be found. I just have those extra Dandori challenges to master. I managed 5 bronze, 3 silver, a gold and a Platinum. They will be good fun trying to squeeze out extra seconds from a run, but they were seriously tough! Possibly the hardest Pikmin related content ever.

I was confused by just how much extra stuff there is post credits that I just assumed I hadn't actually finished the game and it was just a big fake out. I think it’s just Nintendo pulling another Mario Odyssey. It’s an end point most players should achieve and if they feel fatigued or like the difficulty was just right, they can satisfyingly drop out there and say they’ve done it. Everything after the credits is really for the hardcore fan anyway.

Trine 4
Looking through the Games with gold tab for something new to play and I think I played trine 1 or 2 on the 360 ages ago?
So far its really good platform puzzle, nothing shit so far. GWG use to give some decent games out but it got a rep for shit (something that MS did on purpose) If they put on GP now, the usual reddit GPers would be calling it hidden gem

I hate final boss battles. Re: Itorah, but basically all games.
[edit] Actually, it wasn't too bad. Mainly because it let me save between stages.

Several things of course (what is new) but you can add RDR2 to that list, playing on ps5. We all know the game is class and I loved my time with it upon release on Xbox. I have only just started, rescued John, the game still looks lovely:
Xbox: AW2: With 18 hours played I am a good way into the story (I assume?) currently playing as Saga exploring the rest home.
SOD2: First time of playing, this is my pick for daily xbox gamepass quests. Enjoying, I'm currently tasked with finding a new home, but I do not have enough followers in my original base, I have 5 and need 8.
KCD: 80+ hours in, maybe half way through the "main missions/quest"
PS3/PS5 Tomb Raider (reboot) right near the end on ps3. I also have it on ps5(ps4 of course) and xbox, so may double or even triple dip at some point! WWII campaign: 4 missions played MW2 campaign: 5 missions played Horizon FW: Returned over the weekend after not playing for about a year, taking me a bit of time to get back into it, I did love the original. I have just rescued beta ?
I have star wars pre-ordered for the end of the month, that will likely become my "main" game until completion.

I managed (with great difficulty) to get gold on all of them but Platinum is just a bit too stressful for me! Biggest tip I can give on the vs Dandori battles - make sure they eat the bomb or there's simply no chance of getting a gold.

Fancied something a bit chilled out and tactical, so I'm trying Faeria. (Basically card battler, but with a very small hex grid). Only just doing the tutorial, but it's a lot less fun that I expected so far, and a lot less tactical. Maybe it opens up.
[edit] Ah, I spoke too soon. The next mission started introducing different land types, and cards with more interesting effects than just Attack 3.

I find myself about a third of the way through Mario Rabbids: Kingdom battle this evening. I had an itch to go back and finish Mutant Year Zero, but also wish I’d bought it on Switch rather than Xbox. So this is the cheapest solution to that problem. Ive already beaten it twice over the years and I’m enjoying this playthrough every bit as much as the first.
Having finished the sequel last year, this has reinforced my belief that it is the better of the two. The changes to the combat and general level design make for a much more experimental game. The kind in which you can develop some over powered characters and team combinations. The characters themselves are more distinguished from one another too.
Still, this is an amazing game. I’ll probably clock a total of 100 hours of gameplay after this playthrough.
