Since everyone is tallking about Half-Life 2, I have decided to play another 20 years old game, Doom 3.
I had kind of forgotten how slow it is. On veteran difficulty, monsters hit hard and quick, and you take a lot of damage. Between the cramped quarters, lack of lighting, dangerous enemies, slow reload, and overall lack of mobility, the survival horror vibes are strong with this one.
But it does feel dated, very much so. Probably even more than its age would suggest.

Finished Ratchet & Clank : Rift Apart earlier today Enjoyed it a lot, was very epic at times towards the end. Definitely wasn’t as humorous as some of the earlier ones and the weapons weren’t quite as good as usual. Collected all the gold bolts and other secrets too I started the challenge mode and played through the intro, will probably carry on to upgrade all the Omega weapons to the max 8.5 out of 10

Dead Island 2 (PS5)
A couple of hours with this and a couple of hours with Dying Light 2 convinced me that this is the better game, at least for my current mood. It's a bit more stripped back where DL2 seems crammed full of too much open world and live service bullshit. The humour, so far, is pretty good too. I will probably go back to DL2 at some point when I'm feeling more inclined to tolerate that kind of game, but for now DI2 is scratching my itch for mindless zombie killing fun.
Under the Waves (PS5)
Wow, why have I not heard of this? Downloaded it on a whim and it's basically Firewatch meets Subnautica. Absolutely my jam and might well end up being the best game I play this year.

I also thought Under the Waves was excellent. I played it through twice as I missed a single trophy to get the Platinum.
Despite the mostly poor reviews, I caved to temptation and bought Fort Solis earlier this year. I loved it. I’d be very surprised if you didn’t gel with that too. I really connect with these sorts of titles and FS has really high production values for what is essentially an Event Horizon-esque walking sim. I really need to play Still Wakes the Deep - bought it a while ago and just waiting for the gf to go away for a weekend to blitz it with no disturbances.

I'm about 40% through Dead Island 2 having bounced hard off Dying Light 2 (enjoyed both originals) and really enjoying it, it's just a satisfying looting combat game.

I found this very hard going, did complete but actually enjoyed the first one more. Dying Light is still the GOAT in this genre though, not sure that will ever get beat.

Almost done with RE4R.
Not sure whether to jump straight into Village or play something else as a palate cleanser.

REAR? Jade Empire (PC). Apart from clunky combat I find it quite enjoyable. Don't mind the ancient visuals, they're good enough for me. The characters shouldn't make such long pauses after each sentence though. First time?
It's not my fave game of its type, but i have some good memories of it. Little girl. Forest bun shop. Drunken boxing. etc..
Once I worked out that the fighting style I initially started with was annoying because its knockback broke its combos and restarted with another one.
Plus the setting made a nice change from regular sci-fi / fantasy at the time.

@bill in the rain: yes. Thinking of abandoning it already though. Finding its combat styles rather perplexing. Also how am I supposed to know which style works against different enemies. Must admit I am not at all into fighting games, was expecting something like Dragon Age but in a different setting.

Showgunners - Like Xcom and The Running Man had a strategy baby. Got it free with Prime (it was on my 'to-buy' list anyway so that was nice). Anyway cheesy and really well made with some great enviroments and a slight twist in that you are free running around each environment working out puzzles, avoiding traps and signing autographs before you actually enter each arena type area. It really has that addictive appeal I get from strategy games - has kept me occupied all day today.

Icewind Dale:
I didn't quite manage to finish it off today. Just Heart of Winter. The last bossfight was challenging, but not as tough as expected. Still, didn't quite prepare as well as I should have and had my Bard and Druid fall over to some kind of cone of cold or something like that. Which then of course resulted in me trying to manage my inventories in a way where I could grab most of their items, so that I could re-equip them once I could get them resurrected. Going to a nearby priest for the resurrection doesn't work as the game just teleports the player back to Kuldahar when leaving the map.
Burial Isle was a bit extreme, but I quite enjoyed the Gloomfrost after that and the last section was decent as well.
Back to Lower Dorn's Deep tomorrow. I had basically everything finished off down there before I went back to HoW. I still need to grab one particular item to be able to unlock the last room and then I'm off to the very last bossfight.

I don't remember the details tbh, but it's probably worth checking a wiki as i remember that some styles were considered a lot harder than others. But i don't remember the fighting being that deep anyway, as it's more an rpg than an action game. It's basically KotOR with a bit more action and set in a wuxia movie.

The Crew Motorfest Nabbed it while it was on sale and dipped in via greenlight/xcloud on Steam Deck and it's scratching a Forza Horizon shaped itch. Couldn't shake the feeling that it looked a little off, then when I went to install it on my console I noticed that I'd bought the Xbox One version like an idiot. Bollocks!
Diablo IV Picked up the expansion now that it's on offer at a slightly more palatable price (£26.24) Blizzard really do make some excellent cut scenes!

I'm making my way through Lego Horizon.
It's ok. Not worth the full price they I paid, but it's fun and the humour of there. Played a bit of co-op with the Boy which was nice. Not sure it will last me much beyond the end of the week. Perhaps a little grinding to get the platinum trophy at the end.. Then I'll probably be back on MH Rise or BG3 (dark urge and Tactician play through for those final trophies)
