Dropped just under £30 already and I'd say it'll continue to drop quickly. £20 is my biting point.

Honestly a bit surprised. I thought that there were a lot of Dead Space-fans that would just buy it on release no matter what...
Has the DS series even sold that much combined?

It's hard to know how many copies have been sold in the years since release and it's equally hard to find definitive figures but: Dead Space 2 had sold 4 million by 2017, which was said to be similar to Dead Space, though the sequel cost more. And Dead Space 3 did worse - the only figure I can find (this is all Wikipedia) is 600,000 in its first month in North America.
The key thing is the latter two in particular, with their inflated budgets, were considered commercial failures by the geniuses at EA.

Ahh I remember that golden age at EA where they brought out that mandate of multiplayer being on everything and the inclusion of the online pass code in the box so if you bought a pre-owned copy you had to pay a tenner to get an online pass. Fuck me that was a strange time with the gaming press and...err, Chris/Dale then thinking that a shitty Android box called the Ouya was going to be the next big thing.
At least things are better with gaming now...

I’ll be getting Resi 4, Dead Space and then this. Good it’s plummeting in price though.

Definitely put the money towards the RE4R instead of this (not that I've played this yet of course) I've got enough on the backlog already, so can wait for this to drop to a tenner or appear on GP.

So I have played Dead Space Remake, and completed tonight RE4 remake.
Really want to try this, it was my most anticipated game of last year ffs, but I'm worried I am just going to be bitterly disappointed. Especially coming off those other 2 exceptional games.

You will be disappointed. Not bitterly I think.

To it's credit it had good ideas such as the focus on melee combat but Resi 4 Remake proved you can do melee combat in a very empowering way with an element of skill and challenge to it as well as having fucking excellent gunplay too. I do hope they get a second chance as there's something promising buried there.

It's not some tiny independent game here, it's a very expensively made game that has some very clear issues with its gameplay and gameplay mechanics and those flaws were rightfully and legitimately called out.

The only actual gameplay issue, IMO, is that the melee is poorly tuned and allows you to make light work of everything via OP dodging. Oh, and the re-use of a pretty crap boss battle (but that wouldn’t have felt anywhere near as bad if you didn’t do it 4 times).
Otherwise it’s an enjoyable, very pretty, linear, action game. It’s not really survival horror though, despite having some elements. But I’m not sure I’d put RE4 as survival horror either, really (not played the remake yet tho).
So there are some issues, for sure, but I don’t think they explicitly get in the way of enjoying the game as a one-and-done. It should have been better considering the pedigree behind it, for sure, but I think that is blurring the judgment of the game as a standalone product a bit.

If you were playing on the PC the experience would be even worse, I don't believe it's been fully fixed.
Also discount that the melee system falls completely apart if you have to face more than one enemy, little things like how long it takes a health pack to be applied, having to go into the menu to use a battery recharge and the cardinal sin of audio logs not playing automatically. These guys made Dead Space and they abandoned the the things the revolutionised. It's baffling.

I never really struggled against more than one enemy, but then I wasn’t trying to rigidly use melee in that situation as it isn’t the logical defensive choice.

I don’t agree but there we are. I can’t speak for the PC users but I pretty much got the experience I expected. Theirs is not the only game of late to fall apart on PC. A lot of the comments and hate I read directed at the devs was, quite frankly, embarrassing. Is it the best game ever? No. Did it deserve the kicking it got? No. But again that’s my opinion, and that’s all I have.

Also the melee system falling apart at more than one enemy thing. See I don’t get that. There are a shit load of guns in the game as well as the Grp system. I used it all depending on the situation, like I would any game.

I probably just can’t accept the landscape has changed. I miss the days where you could enjoy a game despite its flaws. That’s blatantly not possible now. Silly me.

No one's telling you can't enjoy in the slightest, I'm saying it wasn't a great experience and I came away from it irritated rather than "yeah, that had flaws but I enjoyed it".I didn't enjoy it, there was promise but I feel it squandered that, it felt very cumbersome on purpose but the enemies were the opposite. Yes you can use weapons other than melee and I did, frequently in fact because the system that was in place wasn't fleshed out enough and yes there were many times where I was using melee on a single enemy and then a few others would hit me from behind. There was quite bad checkpointing especially with that skiff battle that I did on the second time only because the melee system bugged out and didn't dodge on the mini boss. The severe lack of enemy variety and the same mini boss again and again plus a really shitty last boss. The lack of exploration, even for a linear game really hurt it and I didn't think it was scary at all even though it was blatantly trying to make you scared. I don't always follow reviews when they become a unified voice but they really called this one right.

I don't always follow reviews when they become a unified voice but they really called this one right. They patched the melee thing. Then another group spoke up and said they preferred the old way. You just can’t please everyone but also you’re not obliged to enjoy it beyond the gripes you have with it. I just have the opinion that it got thrown to the wolves a little too quickly. One of the gripes was game length. I mean come on. We’re obviously in an age of Netflix binging and massive games but that’s still a decent length. Again. In my view.

I have no issue with game length as you go in knowing that it's not going to be some open world, I'm not sure about the thrown to the wolves moniker as again it's a big budget game and A LOT of AAA games are being released in a god awful state and this wasn't released in a great one on a few platforms bar probably the PS5. That's a thing that's happening a lot in the industry, and the fact is it was judged in the state, the state that they were happy to release it in. I don't have any sympathy there.
